Neither of you are stupid. You are both beautiful and intelligent people. The way the dev's have made the romance distribution and the queer baiting are the real issue-it's really really messed up. I don't get why BioWare haven't given an answer to the whole situation. I feel bad for the people in the #MakeJaalBi tag. (and for myself and people here that still have hope) I'm hoping that they are waiting for the actual patch fixes to be released before they make more involved statements about it. They need to say something.

Which means that people are going to be disappointed because they've built up just what 'improvements' means to them, be it a few superficial adjustments or serious content alteration. They do need to say something. Because right now, they're really just stringing us along. 'Improvements' can mean so much and yet so little. And yet, for whatever reason, they don't really care to try and get ahead of the backlash by telling us HOW they're attempting to improve.

Unfortunately for me as a Gil-mancer, I don't see what they can do to "fix" his arc or romance. I'm trying to be practical and realistic. He's not going to get a total rewrite, and I don't imagine that any of the components around Jill will change. Other than a couple of minor things -- making the Meridian kiss not dependent on the baby choice, and perhaps including portions of the animated sex scene -- my main enthusiasm for the patch is really hoping the best for other people. =/

If the patch doesn't fix things to a great extent, we can't just let it go either. We have to get right back to letting them know what is still wrong in the game if they don't really make a huge effort that goes above and beyond expectations.

Yuck. That's another reason why I will have to romance Gil in every playthrough. At least you can hold his hand and trigger Jill. Oh Jill will be triggered repeatedly. Gil, sweetheart.. would you maybe please shut it with those "triggered," memes please? you too, BansheeOwnage?? Pls, do it for me? Or at least idk, take it down a notch? (i.e your weekly "triggered" meme contingent is now eaten up) I'm a speshul snowflake who lacks the ability to find memes that make a state of high emotional distress a joke.. Its similar to the "autistic screeching" memes(and 'we' talked about that a bit over... I trust ya to be not asses about this..pls thx

At least give us approximate time where the m/m romance patch will land and with what improvement. I mean the patch is coming out at some point anyway, dragging us along with no info is just queer baiting at this point. To ME:A devs who are behind this decision:

I don't know how they got themselves in this mess. Was it a lack of foresight or misunderstanding of their fanbase (that happens a lot with Bioware actually) or the people that make those decisions didn't care, but as it is now, no matter what they do, someone will be angry. Not like keeping silent about the matter makes it better but I'm not surprised that they're hesitating to say anything.

For example, there is a contingent of fans who don't want them to make Jaal bi. This would change nothing of Jaal's character. It would change nothing of his interaction with Sara, or the romance with Sara. The only thing that would change would be the player's meta knowledge that Jaal can now be romanced by Scott. Frankly, I don't think they should care about the anger of those players. In contrast, making Jaal bi would make a lot of players happy and add to their gaming experience.

The thing about making Jaal bi that surprised me the most was the anger that the female players that did and liked his romance show at the prospect of making him bi. Some comments I read make it seem like they take it very personally. I keep wondering why. The only reason I can think of is that they're afraid that Bioware is going to alter Jaal's scenes in the f/m romance too but I see no reason why Bioware would do that.

So I dont see how that wouldnt be 1.applicable and 2. a fucking bold great move. You could use the same scene even and it would make sense..

Personally, I have no problem in making Jaal be... if BioWare devs so decide, so be it. Even if I'm not much a fan of having a character "change" sexualty via patch. If there is a chance for implementing a new romance path with a new character and the same amount of content, I would prefer it. Otherwise, no biggie from me.
I personally don't even like mods that change the sexuality of characters (no matter the character sexuality: I don't like a mod to make, say, Dorian interested in women just as I don't like one to make Sera like man, or Blackwall like guys etc.) Is something I would not use anyway, and just play a character of the sex those characters are attracted to. If the situation wasn't so unequal, I don't think I would be ok with a Bi-Jall-via-patch. But it seem the most convenient solution.
I find stupid that no devs have thought about having a bi male in the team, however.
I guess for some girls is not really easy to let go of the one romance that seem tailored for them (for what I have read, is the only male romance with a good quantity of content, and actual sex scene, please correct me if I'm wrong) and I think some women have the bad taste left by certain disadventure that happened to other women, basically used by certain gay man as "cover" for their homosexuality. No one ever think to those women that basically find that have lived a good part of their lives in a lie with a man that they loved dearly, but never loved them back, and basically lied to them from the very first instant they met. I have know a woman who had this happening to her, and she now have a lot of trust issues.
Not tryng to justify some behaviour, just putting in a possibile motivation given by some stuff I've seen in my life.

Well, the Reyes scenes seem to be geared towards Sara and look awkward with Scott, but the option is there. And really, are we still accepting the "quality" argument when Montreal is effectively doing QA post-launch?

Risque perhaps but that's it. If you as an individual take issue with anything I post which is not overtly offensive just not to your personal liking then the recourse is to block me. To be blunt. I do not plan on changing and I don't know you so you don't have any influence on me.

While I don't doubt that this might be the case for some women, the odds are so very small that these women are (1) of a certain age to have been married for a length of time to a closeted gay man, (2) are gamers, (3) play Mass Effect, (4) do the Jaal romance, that I can't imagine at all that that accounts for more than a handful of the female players who care about this. No, the majority of female players that feel this way don't want to share their special purple candy.

I find stupid that no devs have thought about having a bi male in the team, however. Or gay man- homosexuality doesn't mean you cannot fight on the front lines. Though, Andromeda begs to differ. Can't have the "ideal" male romance liking dick too, I guess.

Maybe their parents were in this situation? It's not an uncommon fear for girls. Just right after the fear of the boyfrind ceating with their best girlfriend or sister, there is "he is actually gay and you are a failure as a woman". Plus in most media when such situation is presented, the focus is always on the male part, and usually the woman is at beast ignored or depicted as a horrible person to "justify" the cheating and emphasize the "oh finally I've embraced being gay". I frankly don't remember any show where is given any kind of thought about the woman perspective, outside "le fate ignoranti", an italian movie. Never said is a justification. And frankly I sort of understand (even if I don't agree) wishing to keep Jaal ethero. As the principal romance for women (presented even in a trailer) can be a little irritating having him patched up and became bi.

As in you would never know unless you're the same sex love interest. It would be an interesting dynamic for a love interest to leave their lover for the player character. It's not been done in these games only the opposite way around.

I just think it's still a homophobic line of thought, especially when it comes fictional characters and representation when there is still little lgbt+ content as it is in video games. I'm not actually on board with Jaal being patched in as a bi romance either, because I still firmly believe that a gay/bi male squad member should've been there in the first place, but nah, can't have THAT alienating heteronormative sensibilities now, can't it?
