It will be interesting to see what they do.

At a practical level, for m/m romances to be the only type not to be able to complete the 3 romance game achievement natively remains problematic.

Completing work with Jaal that was clearly started (via data-mining) would be one solution.
Introducing a Quarian romance (who could be Bi) would be another.

A quarian LI, or any sort of new person, would be relegated to DLC, which doesn't fix anything with the main game, which is the majority of content.

Drack doesn't seem conceivable in ANY way. He's not a romance at all, so they would have to create new romance content just for him. The only logical choices are to make Jaal or Liam bi because they can reuse existing romance content. Now, regardless of whatever is currently in the files, using Liam would be lame because that would saddle the m/m players with three humans, which seems silly when one of the selling points is to romance aliens, and m/m has never had an alien option.

I mean the solution is right under their eyes. Make Jaal bi or reduce the amount of romances needed to get the achievement to two.
Making people pay extra to get an achievement, that's kinda vile. It is a possibility though, and I wouldn't put it past BW, nope.

I really don't care about achievements though, I just want a good gay romance in the squad with some sort of story/plot importance.

They need to add a third option for m/m romance, but good luck to them (Bioware) if they try to add it in a DLC that we have to pay for. I don't think that would end well.

I'm sure there are more pre-release examples, but one that I know of had a tweet where he talked about the good alien banging, or something along those lines. This was taken to mean that there would be aliens for ALL. As we see, the final result is that m/m don't have an alien option, again, for the fourth game.

As far as expecting demand for a bi Jaal specifically, that is not really pertinent. He is the only male alien who is a romance option in the entire game. He is also a squad mate. Those two facts alone mean that people would be clamoring for him as an option, regardless of gender. And again, m/m have not had an alien romance at all, which is something many of those players want, and has been a known thing for a very long time. I didn't even start following ME stuff until I played MEA and I know that from what I've absorbed through osmosis on the fringes. The developers themselves, who are supposed to be in touch with their fan community, should know better.


At any rate, queerbaiting is the intentional suggestion, whether it's in the actual media itself (character flirting, etc), or from the creators in social media, that a given same-sex pairing might happen, when the people doing the "baiting" have no intention of following through. It's Lucy vs Charlie Brown with a queer football, as it were.


[edit] I'll also point out that both of the angara options are heterosexual, as Avela (a fling) is only available to male Ryder, which is pretty crappy for the shiny new alien race in a new galaxy. In fact, the angara are the only alien romance options in the game that are NOT bisexual.

The patch better be coming out soon; the longer the public waits, the less media attention it will receive and Bioware hopes the less backlash it will face. I am almost expecting the patch, whenever it comes out, not to address m/m romances at all and they will say that it was too much content holding up the patch release so it's coming later. And continue to play the waiting game until fans get bored of waiting and move onto something else.

Best case scenario is that there will be a gay quarian in the DLC like Aria and Nyreen whom we can have a brief romance with. Bio has done it before, I think that would be the easiest, fastest, and cheapest method for them to substantially increase gay content, since they'll be getting revenue from the DLC to offset the additional work. Note, best case here means best of bad options, nothing is really going to be good in this situation. But I can't believe they would actually spend effort on a free patch to provide additional m/m content. It's just not in the ME team.

i know a lot of ppl aren't fond of them for various reasons but i really like squadmate romances and i hope they come up in future games. especially gay ones. this would have been so cute, if hawke didn't romance either of them. :sob:

i never got the blackwall/josie flirting, but then i hardly ever took him out of his mancave stable.  imma do that next time. and yeah, adoribull and garrus/tali are soooooo cute, it was a pleasant surprise to see them happening. 

hopefully i won't be too hard for them to strike a nice balance. give squadmate romances a nice, moderate amount of content, but definitely not enough to overwhelm the romances with the PC. and don't give one side a happier ending than the other.
