It's a cultural exchange. You give him yours, and he gives you his. Liam could watch. Lexi too, since that is sort of her thing. Now I imagine the scene where all the crew are watching Ryder and Jaal exchanging their cultures.

I don't like the precedent this sets either, but with the corner the Mass Effect team wrote themselves into, their only other real choice was to let the resentment fester until the next game in the series. They have only themselves to blame for taking such an obvious step backward from the previous installment.

Do you guys know if the movie night glitch has been patched yet on NG+? I'm really excited about actually having a date for movie night now. lol I did the Reyes romance before and, sadly, he doesn't show up for it. Having a movie night date and a endgame bridge scene is going to be a nice change. Although, too bad we couldn't have something with Reyes for those scenes, too. They patched it. Though I think the new awful sports outfit still goes invisible sometimes. BansheeOwnage posted the funniest picture of it the other day! I probably wasn't going to wear the sports outfit, anyway. Although, I kind of like the Blasto! logo. I might be the only one. lol Was just wondering if they fixed that glitch where the items rolled over and glitched progression for it. It would suck if I finally got a date and couldn't go to movie night. :gasp:

idk, i'm not super worried about this setting a precedent or anything? i don't give bioware a lot of credit, but i do think that in the future they'll be smart enough to avoid the specific set of circumstances that made us want and advocate for bi jaal. chiefly, the fact that he seemed to have been bi all along and was changed at the last moment for reasons that have to deal with the company's dudebro attitude rather than the ~writer's vision~, if rumours are to be believed. if, in the future, lesbian and bi ladies get three squadmate romances, 2 flings, and there was one female character we couldn't romance, i don't think bioware would listen or ~cave to~ anymore clamouring for her to be bi, lol. anyway, back to the celebration. For all the people who think that Jaal's sexuality was changed need to be reminded of a few things - The game's code lacks a genderlock for Jaal. This genderlock is what causes characters to turn you down, Liam/Scott Cora/Sara, etc. Jaal had no such code at all.
- However, despite this lack of code, not once does a flirt option ever appear for Scott. Scott can't even make the attempt and then get shot option. The choice never appears in the first place, which makes it very unusual since Scott can't even get shot down.
- There was a leftover audio line of Scott telling Jaal 'I love you too, Jaal.'
This makes it clear that at some point, likely the content existed at some point, but was cut. Also, since this change in no way alters Jaal's character development or personality, this isn't a retcon or some game-breaking alteration. Just because Jaal never states an attraction to men doesn't mean he never was attracted at all. Of all the characters so far, his is the one who could be changed without drastically altering his character. (Besides Drack anyway)

Wow. BioFan blocked me on Twitter because I was dishing out truth bombs all over his tweets against Jaal. He's the same guy that was happy he could romance both Reyes and Gil due to a glitch (As well as Bioware doesn't care enough to encode a confrontation scene like with other straight romances) and thanks Bioware for that. He's the same guy who can't even name a single other non-Bioware game with gay romance leading to people talking about not "biting the hand that feed them". I take whatever he says with a grain of salt.

Honestly, I can't link the tweets. We didn't even talk back and forth. I merely commented on a few of the responses to that post, about everything he says is theoretically flawed. I didn't attack him personally in any way. I guess he felt his fame being threatened by a salty gay like me that didn't need a self-hater raining on my parade.

Here's the flaw in Biofan's logic, and the logic of anyone claiming that some sort of "precedent" will be set by this "change":
If the mistake hadn't been made in the first place, people wouldn't have even started the whole #MakeJaalBi thing in the first place.
If Bioware doesn't do it again, then people won't have a reason to get upset. Or, if deadlines and complications (the fact the A team is working on Project Dylan and leaving the B team to try and create a brand new ME game by themselves??) are an issue, than open communication should be a priority to prevent another #MakeJaalBi fiasco from happening.

He isn't wrong with that line of thought though. People are going to use changing Jaal's sexuality to ask for the same. I've already seen nebulous forms of it with Suvi and Sera. It doesn't say anything about the validity of those positions (ie the reasoning for both of those is that they just didn't like the other options, not that there were no other options) but he's not wrong when he said a precedent has been set.
OTOH they did do it with Kaidan too so maybe it doesn't need to be read as a complete abandonment of "sexuality is an important part of the character" they've had going since DA2.
Btw has the patch actually been released yet? I was so looking forward to a new CC when I went to bed last night.

Bleh, I can't believe they actually caved into the pressure and changed a characters sexuality. It was a poor choice, and sets an awful precedent. They fucked up so badly that they had to try to fix it somehow and this was most viable route. Sure it can bring ammotion to some folks, but I find it still more positive than status quo of no m/m romances in squad.

Everyone is a critic, but nobody ever gives us any realistic other options how BW could improve the m/m options :/ It's always the same '' fix Gil and Reyes up a bit and then hope for the best for the next game, sorry lads ''

I'm putting my thoughts on the whole '' changing sexuality '' thing I posted in the Jaal thread here as well. Just a few running thoughts about this whole " changed sexuality " business. 1. Jaal's sexuality is all meta. At no point does the game tell you anything about his heterosexuality outside of him liking women and him not being available for Scott. None of those are necessarily proof of his heterosexuality. Of course you can say this about male exclusive male options who don't refer to themselves as homosexual, but Dorian and Gil both tell you that they are, infact, homosexual. And even if they didn't... Well, I'll get to that later. The reason, well one of the reasons, why we don't see a #maleLiamBi tag is because he tells you that he is not into dudes, and most of us respect that. Jaal at no point says that he isn't into dudes, only on meta level and that's not really enough. And furthermore, Jaal's writer, or the devs, haven't come forth and confirmed that Jaal is indeed heterosexual and it is an integral part of his character. 2. Datamines. Yes, while you cannot trust code, Jaal still has code for both Scott and Sara. I recall the code being structured similarly to Vetra's, who is defo bi. Why would it be there if not because he was bi at some point? 2.1 Voicelines. There are recordings for " I love you Jaal ", some romance voiceline during Jaal's quest, and the sex discussion with Lexi post-sexing is fully voiced by Scott. Yes, Cora and iirc, Suvi have voicelines for the sex they aren't interested in, but at no point did the datamine give any hope of anything else than what we got in the final game. 2.2 Jaal has no flirt, or for that matter rejection option for Scott. For a game that let's you flirt and be rejected by all the romance options, it suuuure sounds fishy that Scott can't flirt and be rejected by Jaal. Sounds awfully fishy, doesn't it, hmmmh. Oh, and nobody ever found any rejection voicelines either. 3. Inequality in romance distribution. Gay men have two non-squad romances, both hardly plot relevant, both human, both CC faced, both romances extremely average and Gil's is borderline insulting with the baby drama. You might say that " they should just fix the existing romances " and maybe I'm biased, but a few emails by Reyes and some fixes on Gil's romance won't fix the issues we are facing. Yes, it certainly fixes the game for Gilmancers and Reyesmancers, but we would still end up with no squadmates, the least amount of options, no aliens, no plot relevant romances.. Scott-accessible Jaal fixes a lot of issues. You might also say that " it is what it is, too bad so sad, wait for the next game maybe they'll give you something good then? " to which I'd like to say, fuck off. 4. '' Well if they changed Jaal, why couldn't they change Dorian or Suvi as well?!?!?!?!?!?!!??!?! '' Let's get the representation business point out of the way. Gay characters don't exist in high numbers, and you want to take those few instances of representation (no matter how shitty) away from the LGBT community because you are annoyed that they changed an allegedly straight character (that is only confirmed heterosexual in meta level) to bi so that it would combat a lot of the injustice that the dev team has done? That's super dickish. In DA:I, straight women had 4 options. FOUR, FUCKING, OPTIONS, and one of them is super lore and story relevant. No, you are well catered by your options already, so to even HINT that Dorian could be made bi is just extremely selfish. You are only, PURELY, following your own selfish interests at that point. There is no injustice done to straight women in DA:I, you don't need more options, and the inequality is basically why we latched on to Jaal, who isn't fully confirmed straight, who was datamined to be bi, who was teased to be bi, who is the best bet for fixing a lot of the issues we faced. If straight women had only like, one option in DA:I, I could've understood the want for more options when others had two or whatever. But, never, at any point, EVER, EEEEEEEEEEEVER, will gay men have more options than any other group. Never ever. Never. #MakeJaalBi wasn't started because Jaal is hot, Jaal is cute, Jaal is the best romance. Okay, part of it is I'm sure that. But it was also because gay men had the least amount of options, no squadmate romances, no plot relevant romances, no alien romances, no explicit sex scene (we don't know if Jaal will have one with Scott but... you know) and Jaal was the easiest bet to fix so many of these issues. If straight women, or straight men, ever will wind up with the least amount of options, with no plot relevant romances, no squadmate romances, no romances of a race that they never got to experience before, no romances who have unique face and hair textures, no explicit sex scenes, and gay men, or lesbian women, had all of that, more options than straights, more than one same sex exclusive option, and ONE OF THEM being datamined to be bi at one point, who has no reference to their sexuality (only at meta level, and a preference to one gender), THEN WE CAN TALK. But that will never, EVER, happen. - - If you can't wrap your head around all this, then you are just plain ignorant.

Bioware games aren't a court of law, just because people may go on about other characters with less deserving reasons for change doesn't mean that they have had a precedent set going forward. All they have to do is not change the other characters people are asking them about. It's their game and they don't have to do anything they don't want to with it. They didn't make Jaal bi because they "caved", they did it because they realized what they did was wrong and making Jaal bi was the best course of action to at least attempt to right it in good faith. In this case there was a very good reason for them to do it as well as some clues that make it likely that Jaal was the easiest to "change", as in he was probably bi in the beginning and they cut stuff. If they didn't change Jaal to be the gay squaddie I don't know what else they would have done, most likely not create a new one just for that purpose and even if they introduced a bi or gay male squaddie in a DLC it wouldn't be as tied into the plot as the original crew and especially Jaal.
