The Character Romance thread (Official)

I simply don't care. BW gives me games I only imagined as a child when I would draw my own stories comic-style. BW romances are a major draw for me and I am proud to admit it and could care less if anyone thinks poorly of me for that.

On the subject of romances though, I prefer them connected to the story instead of just a quickie or random hook-up. Solas is a good example of that, same with Alistair. I have yet to see an ME romance actually play a part in the main story in that same way. I'm hoping with MEA we get that experience.

Yeah, while I liked Dorians personality I found his backstory and personal quest to be very poor. Dragon Age was supposed to be a setting where same sex couples were generally accepted, women had more political and military power than in real life and so on. I was excited about finally getting gay companions, but then Dorians entire story revolved around how his family didn't like the fact he was gay- just like 99% of stories featuring gay men in mainstream media. I really admire Gaider as a writer, but it felt like Dorian was a way of vetting some of his own personal issues rather than writing something new and unique that fir the setting. 

What makes it worse is that the reason given was something like "I wanted LGBT people to feel that their struggles are represented". Not all of us grew up in conservative families or communities. When I told my parents I was bi they were completely fine with it- hell, my dad was head of the diversity and inclusion group at his workplace. Stories like Dorians don't represent me or my experiences at all. 

It's particularly annoying since bi and lesbian female characters don't seem to be shoehorned into these stories as often. Sera's personal quest and backstory was completely unrelated to her sexuality, as was Samantha's. 

So I think that is the current state of affairs. And following SofaJockey's rules, I'll spoiler leaked info, but won't spoiler confirmed information.

We've been downstream without a paddle for too long now with all this speculation. Please put us out of our misery 

I agree that this is actually painful to watch(I am including myself too), it is like begging for scarps because people want to be assure there is representation and good one at that.

The worst part is seeing things on Twitter and not knowing if they are people who've seen something, or just people who are talking about the things we've discussed. [LONG SIGH]

Bioware would really want to piss off a huge chunk of the fanbase if Vetra isn't a LI.  I think it is more likely they want to keep it a surprise as long as possible.

Them saying yes would ruin the surprise.

BioWare's going to piss off a chunk of the fanbase no matter what they do. Not ruling Vetra romance out, but if they do make her a romance it won't be because they're worried about the reaction from the turians' fans.
