I think I'm just going to keep the game and romance Reyes. And do everything in my power to piss off Jaal. Well, without being the biggest dick ever. I can't cancel mine because I'm a fucking idiot and waited until it's already shipping, so I guess I'm just keeping it and romancing Reyes. Plus, my boyfriend paid for half and I don't want to tell him he can't play it because I'm mad, so. lol Lmao, well maybe your boyfriend can dress up as Jaal and you can have that '' 9 flirts, sex in a vehicle, no homo '' scenario

Well, I've cancelled my preorder, in light of recent confirmation that indeed, for a 4th game in a row, the gay male players get treated like a barely tolerated nuisance. Yes, Bioware offers more than other developers, but they're not perfect. I've been a dedicated fanboy since Jade Empire, but the problem is when they do things like this, it's actually more impactful than it would be coming from other companies.
For whatever reasons, I doubt they will ever say publicly anytime soon why they did it, they chose to completely censor anything and everything about m/m romance in MEA from the get go. This callous treatement was reserved for the m/m content only, as evidenced by their multiple teases and trailer confirmations for m/f content (and f/f too, even though they denied it officially - hello Peebee). This alone was a red flag and a very bizarre thing to do. Are they so afraid of backlash? Was it because they are changing their policies and going for a more "conservative" approach? Was this the result of a few homophobic individuals high up the ladder? I don't know, but I also don't care. The end result is unacceptable.
I would have overlooked this "strategy" if in the end we would have gotten equal treatement. Or at the very least not such an obvious bias against us (m/m content). Turns out the strategy was not just a shield against preemptive backlash, it was also a good indicator of the real situation. So, out of 6 squad members, the only ones to get zero options are the gay men. Again. For a 3rd (arguably 4th) time. Again we get the scraps. And not only that, but even there, Bioware shows contempt by censoring the bare minimum content for m/m and puting "cheap" gimmicks in place to avoid even the simplest of things (hello hands blocking kisses, shots from behind the head during a kiss or fade to black scenes to conceal anything relating to the oh so disgusting gay sex). I like Gil, and I regret that I won't be able to woo him, but a small pity npc cannot make up for what they're doing with everything else.
Funny thing is, I would have overlooked even this. Yes I had a lot of good will for Bioware. But they seem determined to prove me I'm wrong to do so. This is the 3rd (again arguably the 4th) time this happens, so no. No more good will left. Bioware is obviously determined to tell me that I'm not really relevant enough to include unless "pressured by fans" (which is paraphrasing one of the devs by the way, not just me being harsh for no reason). This implicitly means they don't want my money either. I'm happy to oblige.
I'll still be around, too many cool people in these forums to just leave, I'll just be the guy who doesn't play the game. Ha! If they make some amends I might even decide to buy the game again. I'll definetly not pre-order anything from them again. I'm curious how and if the 4th game in the Dragon Age series will follow this direction the company seems to be taking. Or will they go back to being the old Bioware I seem to be remembering. Time will tell I suppose. Especially if this type of marketing strategy is now the law of the land.
Cheers!

Cyberpunk 2077 could probably end up having better LGBT representation than Andromeda lol And we all know Cyberpunk 2077 is going to make the reception to Andromeda even worse: The Witcher 3 > DAI Disagreed strongly on that last bit. And my faith in the Projecktors being somehow better with LGBT content than Bioware is nil.

I have always liked her and she seems like a good person, but that's coming from a person who's been courted and beloved by BioWare for years now. It grates against my nerves. No, you're not going to be able to bring yourself to criticize a company that invites you to their headquarters, sends you merch, and lets you play the games early. I can't stand Gils face. I don't have to. I don't have to buy this game, and am I glad I didn't. I almost did yesterday but decided to be careful. I have several issues with MEA, and Jaal being straight was the thing that shoved me from the fence. I don't give a shit about Gil or Reyes. I owe nothing to Bioware, and they owe nothing to me. I don't have to give them a chance, seeing how much they care about me and my money.

The only way to redeem themselves a little tiny bit (in case that guide is accurate) would be a DLC with a new male gay alien companion... But what are the chances lol.... Even if there's a chance, it won't be worth the money. Javik was an exception since he was a Prothean. I WANT A KETT GAY ROMANCE OPTION SQUADMATE FREE DLC

Between this shit and all the other stuff coming to light, I'm wondering - is this EA's way of making money off of one last Mass Effect game before they take the IP behind the barn and shoot it?
Also, I've got to admit - I've never actually *done* a MaleShep/Kaidan playthrough; all my impressions of that romance have come from let's plays. Doing another trilogy run to romance him is looking really appealing right now...

No, you're not going to be able to bring yourself to criticize a company that invites you to their headquarters, sends you merch, and lets you play the games early. I think shes a genuinely lovely person, but I don't expect her or BioFan etc to be truthfully objective in the slightest. C'mon, she's disappointed herself. Just a month ago she was excited about hopefully doing Scott/Liam. Don't be like NeoGAF which just drove shinobi away lashing at him in review thread Cyberpunk 2077 could probably end up having better LGBT representation than Andromeda lol And we all know Cyberpunk 2077 is going to make the reception to Andromeda even worse: The Witcher 3 > DAI No offence but LOL. I'm Polish and trust me, don't even give up your hopes on that one. It will be massive shock if there's any LGBT content in cyberpunk whatsoever, let alone romances better than Bioware

This would have been ideal. The crewmember romances were a freaking cop-out from the beginning and should have never been repeated. Talk about deepening the divide between equality. Here's your throwaway bone. It's gay, has less content, bland NPC faces. What more do you want? We're progressive, haven't you heard? This is how I feel. I so, so wish we could go back to 4 bi options. DA2 was the only time I ever got an LI that was deeply tied to the plot and probably the only time I ever will, if they're set on this path. I feel that m/m romances will always be severely shorted under the "not gamey" system we have now. With 4 bi options, I knew I'd get options that weren't secondary and weak. They wouldn't be CC NPC afterthoughts. They'd actually be the main romances. Fallout 4 blew away most Bioware games for me, because they didn't shut me out of most of the romances like Bioware now does. Woah, woah there. Let's not get crazy. Fallout 4 had, what, two decent romances. No romance cinematics. No romance follow up in the DLCs. No sex scenes. And Preston "fetch quest" Garvey annoying you the entire time. Fallout 4 isn't terrible but romance wasn't their strong suit. But, hey, that just my opinion.

Honestly I'm 100% sure Cyberpunk is going to be amazing. It's even more ambitious than TW3, it's going to be bigger and an actual RPG, they're working with the creator of the original tabletop game, they have more resources and a bigger team working on it... I have high hopes for that game

Seriously I saw that in the let's play and was confused. They could've at least did that bullshit where Javik scans you and learns your language. At least then it'd be super bs. (Or have SAM say he's translating and to give him a minute!). In all honesty, 5 open-world planets. Not "we have big amount of exploration". Literally 5 planets with an option to do outposts and shit because this is what waking up from cryopod interface looks like. I'm starting to seriously think that they started good with Eos, did everything right and nice and then all their budget went to Peebee and Cora sex scenes. Also, game doesn't look like it has "huge amount of content" for now... Huge amount of fetch quests - yes, I was able to grab 10 on Nexus in one go... This looks like a complete failure to me. This has completely given me the kick up the arse to give other games ago rather than hold any faith in the future of ME anymore. So... The Witcher 3 or Dragon Age games??? Haven't tried either, but am seriously not wanting to play Andromeda at this stage.

I don't think Bioware has an anti-gay agenda and, as they said, they really did not confirm any romance options aside from Cora and PeeBee for Scott. They have also said multiple times that non-squadmate romances are going to be important and even the voice of Scott said his favorite romance is not with a squadmate. Personally, while I feel for those who wanted to romance Jaal, I'm happy with both Gil and Reyes and the possibility to woo both!
Like, literally, give it a chance. We're basing off info from data mines. Play the freaking game and give Gil and/or Reyes a chance and just afterwards.

Out of curiousity, what was everyone's opinion here about Inquisition? I enjoyed the game, and the characters, but it's painful to replay, mostly in terms of grinding (thank god for PC mods). The story is a bit cliche, not as grey as I would've liked, and tbh, DAII had more unique and diverse characters imo. That isn't to say I didn't immensely love them. I liked the story a lot. I thought Trespasser should have been the base game ending, because Corypheus was a really terribly-written antagonist. The concept behind him was sound, but they didn't use him well enough. I liked all the characters. I hated the grindy gameplay. I find it very, very difficult to complete playthroughs now. Generally agree. Good main story. Side quests were very hit and miss. Some of it got really really grindy. Tresspasser ending arguably better than the vanilla one. And for those who think non squadmate romances don't work, I say Josephine and Cullen refute that.
