They seem pretty chill with anything except personal attacks and three straight pages of weird dick stuff, so I think they'd probably be chill. Plus, I think they feel bad for us, since we're losers that keep getting shot down by all the imaginary boys. Yesss, I think I'll camp there after this shit is done with. Can't WAIT to see how BW is going to comment on it, or if they're going to comment at all haha! I guess I'll go over there and try to convince everyone bishi elf boys can totally be KISA.

The more I think about this the more I realize this must have been a conscious decision to cut M/M content. It's horrible to say this, but one of our "allies" in BioWare or EA almost certainly said "get rid of bi Jaal because it will make straight male players feel uncomfortable". We need to face that. But what about Kaidan? I just... It had to be deliberate. But like, who the fuck cares? So what if it makes some dudebros uncomfortable? Are they so scared of backlash that they're willing to fuck gay players over? After everything? And don't they realize they're going to get pretty much the same amount of backlash from the LGBT community for this? I mean what the fuck I never said it was a smart decision. In fact, this whole game seems to be built on bad decisions.

hey you have to show up in the DA subforum to see how it goes your stay in Thedas Fook yes. I ain't abandoning the Milky Way, and Shep, Kaidan, Liara, Garrus, Tali, EDI, the overall greatness of the original trilogy. But screw going to Andromeda. I be hopping in my time machine back to a time where LGBT were more inclusive LOL Still think it crazy that medieval fantasy more LGBT friendly than sci-fi yeah, it's really nuts, DA team is very queer so that helps With Patrick Weekes being pansexual I think (god I hope so xD) DA4 will be great.

It's perfectly reasonable to expect gay men to also play a straight romance to get an in-game achievement. As long as it is also reasonable to expect straight men to play a gay romance to get an in-game achievement. Oh, hang on, that's not going to fly, is it? Not because it's not logical or is not a reasonable equivalence, but because of pending 'shoving down my throat / pandering' arguments on social media So scratch that, back to the original idea of politely asking EA Answers how this achievement is to be met.

Well this thread went to hell in a hurry. Even though the trial got me stoked for Andromeda, I'm somewhat considering waiting until it's in the bargain bin (should be a year tops from the sound of things). Correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that people found Scott/Jaal romance lines in the files, but it turns out that those files aren't part of the game and Jaal is in fact gender locked for Sara only? That's a shit move by Bioware/EA, and doesn't fit with their earlier "explanation" of "it has to 'make sense.'" If it didn't "make sense," why would those files even be there to begin with? Doesn't work that way. Sometimes they record lines for both VAs, in case they use them. Or they change the character's sexuality during production and end up never using them. Besides we never did find Scott's audio files. That's why people were worried in the first place.

I just don't understand - what were they thinking? What did they expect? Who thought making Jaal straight was a good idea? important questions What it saddens me more is that bi Kaidan writer IS Jaal writer, I feel so betrayed. Honestly I feel like it's reasonable to assume he was bi at one point and it was scrapped so hopefully the writer had nothing to do with that. I feel like someone on the dev team when accepting bi vetra said 'we can't have all the aliens be bi though' tho ofc this is just speculation based on the code

No it's actually weirder. Dataminers found that sound files for Scott/Jaal romance were missing- but there was weird coding that didn't transfer all lines so they could be read so that was thought as reason. However Jaal wasn't gender locked for Sara only, but for both and seemed to have romance scenes for both in the code. So the code would despite all this still indicate that Jaal is bi in the game unless it's misinterpreted.

I'm trying to catch up, let me get this straight (no pun intended, eugh)...
Bioware: We can't make all our LIs playersexual or bisexual, that's not realistic! Also Bioware: No bi or gay male squadmates tho Also Bioware: Oh and make 1/2 of the available options poly/love triangles
REALISM
I'm so sorry guys. ):

I'll write a more in depth reaction post when I'm home and have access to a PC. For now: really Bioware? Really? I already know I'm an afterthought as far as the industry at large is concerned, but it especially stings to be reminded of it by a franchise I used to trust in this respect.
All I want is to role play an openly bi/gay guy going on space adventures, but my options for doing that are extremely limited. It's a damn shame nobody else is doing space opera RPGs with the same ambition as the original Mass Effect trilogy.

That's actually untrue, at least when it comes to American TV shows. Currently, both bi/gay men and bi/gay women make about 2% of all characters on television, but men make 3% of all TV deaths. Women - whole 10% of all deaths.
Source: www.vox.com/a/tv-deaths-lgbt-diversityWhat's interesting is that among that 10% of bi/gay dead female characters the majority were specifically lesbians since the story usually looks like that -- the lesbian is a minor recurring character while bisexual woman is a regular who was initially de facto straight but at one point showrunners decide to give her some female fling - aforementioned lesbian guest character. Then the fling dies, bisexual woman comes back to male lead and showrunners are congratulating themselves how progressive they are. One example is on my avatar. Nah, Lexa is alive, well kinda (in the alternate universe?) the thing is that almost all shows don't really kill their characters these days, especially shows like Arrow, Flash, The Vampire Diaries etc, they somehow almost always come back alive (or in different form/show like Sara Lance from Arrow to Legends of Tomorrow or her sister from Arrow to Flash Earth 2 or whatever) even for a while Nah she's dead, just like both lesbians on Vampire Diaries. It's important, straight characters that come back to life in that show.

But there IS a gender flag for Jaal. What do you think is going on there, then? Because it seems to make no sense. Something somewhere doesn't trigger the ability for the game to recognise all those flags you and ashes found. Is it just that the code is more complex than originally thought? Ugh, I don't know. I'd have to scour the code again but truth be told, I'm too tired to even think about it. I don't know what we could have missed.

I think you're mistaken, even though they're under the same flag, team ME and team Dragon Age are different. Dragon Age have a lead gay writer as a lead, they have always included a gay option for gays. ME didn't even have an option for gay, claiming Shepard is straight, ME1, they claim Asari is not a lesbian option, then in ME2, that justification goes out the window with Kelly, in ME3, they just basically just scrap together something for gay to shut up those damn annoying queers that keep complaining about it. ME Andromeda, they employ the same thing so that they could just get those damn queers off their back. From now on, I won't pre-order a game from ME anymore, DA is gonna be the only game I care about from Bioware.

But I swear I never saw anything locked for Sara only. This is so frustrating.

I know it's a long shot, but considering what the dataminers found, I almost wonder if Jaal is a reverse Juhani* situation: there's a mistake somewhere making so that something that an event flag that is supposed to fire is not. But like I said. It's a long shot.
*For those that don't know, Juhani was always intended to be a lesbian, but there was a programming mistake in early versions of KOTOR that caused the game to treat her as bisexual. The issue was eventually fixed in a patch.
