First Witcher 3 now Horizon maybe BW should stick to what they're best at and stop trying to force things. I wonder if this is just a rough transition, BioWare is clearly losing the crown when it comes to massive western RPGs and I wonder if this is just the rough patch where people have to adjust to it. The thing is if they just stuck to what they're good at (ME2 like games with a focus on characters and their relationships) they'd be fine. Yeah there's a cliche storm in there but it's tight and interesting enough to make a fun game. I don't know what they're trying to do when they drag it out and make it a slog. It brings the whole thing down.

So he didn't romance him, but he could flirt? And sounds like he wasn't turned down? Hold up. The devs are confused that Jaal didn't turn down Scott. ....So the datamined revealed a bug in the programming code?????? He probably confused an emotional option with a flirt option (both have hearts).

So they anonymously acknowledge this mess they created via a shadowy private message to a journalist who made an honest mistake. But can't tweet or write a statement or generally publicly acknowledge this disaster???

It seems like romance disappointment is a bit more universal. My best friend (straight guy) has decided to be celibate in MEA. The process was as follows: Cora: "tries too hard" "Can I talk to the manager haircut" Peebee: the only response I got from him was "not going to happen" Vetra: "I don't feel safe"Keri: "Wank, fake British accent" Avela: "that's it I'm going to celibate" That's the excuse I was constantly getting when I asked guys why in the hell they didn't romance Cassandra. She was "too much" for them, or my favorite; "I wouldn't be doing her, she'd be doing me." Despite her whole entire personality being a hopeless romantic and so girly these guys literally took a look at her and just said nope. It sucks because gay Ryders do not have this option to be oh-so picky. They're stuck with what they have and are forced to compromise with that whereas the straight men can hate on someone for their haircut and choose from a variety of options. What's even more frustrating is at the end of the day, they'll be the ones to have their voice heard. Bioware will most likely add more attractive looking options for the straight males in the next game while everyone else is paid dust. Somehow it reminded me how some vocal people are literally saying Cora should be a lesbian or at least bi because she's butch and has a gay haircut. Some things never change. Looks should NEVER be the reason. And I'd bring Kaidan here. He's hot. I really wanted to romance him. But... his personality was not my cuppa tea at all. Same goes with Liam in MEA. But I had absolutely no problem with romancing Cullen even though he's not entirely my type when it comes to the looks. He had a nice personality. Maybe a bit too soft here and there, but my femLavellan was a softie too so they were fine for each other.

Possible explanation for the datamine then:
The lack of genderlock with Jaal may have been a programming oversight.
Jaal was meant to be locked out for Scott, but since somehow that code got missed, Jaal never turns down Scott, but the flirt option doesn't appear because the lines of dialog or code that would allow for flirting don't exist.
Jaal was never MEANT to be bi in the first place?

Dude, yes, this. In the space of one game he goes from a rakeish 'I take it as it comes, I don't settle down, I just do' to 'let's have a kid and be a big gay family with my hag, 22 year old guy I've started dating!' It's just...bizarre tonally when in context of the Mass Effect series. When I watched the 'let's have a kid' scene I had to double take. It's totally bizarre when it comes to ME. You know what it feels like? They wrote a '' revolutionary '' story and put all the eggs in the basket called Gil and called it a day, that's enough for gay guys right? While first, it really sounded spectacular, but the more you think about it and the more you realize this is Mass Effect, it makes no goddamn sense. It's shoddy, it's weird, it's way too fast. You know what they could've done and made Gil's romance THAT MUCH BETTER?
Remove the baby thing, and allocate more time on making Gil more plot relevant. Make the romance feel like it takes place in the world of Mass Effect instead of gay soap opera. There should be some conflict, tender moments, a realization of love, yadayada. Then, the final scene, Gil says '' So, we've been together for quite some time now.. I love you, I really do and.. I was thinking, would you ever consider, in the future... starting a family with me? '' Boom, hearts melt everywhere, such a heartfelt thing to say. And to this, your Ryder can say '' Oh my god Gil, of course I would '' or '' I have my hands full of Gil Brodie, I think I'll be just fine with just you, and me, together forever '' and boom. Amazing, emotional, and a choice that gives you some freedom to roleplay and headcanon what happens afterwards. It's that easy. I really appreciated it when Leviathan DLC included Steve a lot and Citadel DLC treated him equally or almost equally. I didn't choose him for romance, but it was appreciated. Especially knowing that so few picked him (for understandable various reasons).

Did I read that right? Why would a trans person drop their birth name when introducing themselves? Wtf, Bioware. Yeah Beamdog did this in Baldurs Gate Siege of Dragonspear aswell and its just so forced. I mean don't care if they put any character in the game that is trans, but it has to feel natural, not just be blurted out to score points or something.

I can't see it. A dev confirmed straigh Jaal? By proxy yes. A Gamespot reviewer thought you could romance Jaal as a dude, I called his out on it, he contacted one of the devs since he's chummy with them, said nameless dev finally said Jaal is straight. Even better is apparently the angara has a "unique interpretation" or some such shit about gender, but bi Jaal didn't happen. Holy fuck the level of bullshit is reaching critical mass. It's like Jack being bi but not being a bi romance option all the fuck over again. I'm honestly just fucking entertained at this point by the dev team's complete and total ineptitude.

I'm just going to stick to my first ever playthrough of Dragon Age Origins. Too much pain, hurt and confusion for MEA right now. Thank god though this experience hasn't tainted my opinions of the original trilogy. Still my fave games ever. Andromeda is like the Star Wars prequels I pretend don't exist. Get out of this nightmare str8 alien world and into Zevran's arms, it's much nicer there, can confirm I kinda wish I could forget MEA's premiere is happening and just get back to Zev's arms... Oh and all those people we stole from in Orzammar... Good old times...

'they were a bit confused, saying Jaal should reject Scott.' this is............ so messy............................................................................................................. can't wait to see how they have the alien who apparently has a 'very different concept of gender' (sure.......) pat dudeRyder on the back and tell him 'bro, no homo' like.............................................. jesus christ Again more contradictions. Some have reported the option for flirting with Jaal as Scott doesn't even come up. So how can Jaal reject Scott? I don't know or care anymore. Couldn't care less about the angara or Jaal at this point with all their drama.

Jaal was never MEANT to be bi in the first place? I would honestly prefer this interpretation vastly over the idea that he was bi and got changed. It reflects marginally better on BioWare if so. TBH though Jaal being originally bi sounds more likely given this stuff about angara and gender, the code and the recovered voice file from Scott indicating Tom voiced lines for the romance.

But even if this was a mistake, they absolutely teased and raved about him for months without shutting down the hope. That's just mean.

How hard would it be to just patch Jaal in as bi like he clearly originally was supposed to be? The code is there. It's not very hard, but I don't think they will do it. There are similar cases before and they never patched anything. But if you play on the PC, there might be a mod.
