So, I was told there is a gay male turian who can be flirted with on the Nexus. It's likely not a true romance but it is a thing?

That's cool, but I hope you understand if some other gay dudes (like me) feel really slighted right now. Get to know the characters first, then feel free to have slightedness if you still feel that way. Everything on Gil is online already. Combined with Reyes, he has barely HALF of what Peebee and Cora have. How is this not a reason to feel upset?

I can't believe it, even IGN is trolling MEA Actual IGN review for ME:A considered the game to be "meh" if I remember things right. It's almost like they had a completely different version for press show, because back then everybody were "noice", "cool game", "10/10" and now it's more like "well, shit". okay but......... it's....... obviously much shinier???? like watching this how someone could make the argument that the two games are graphically comparable.......??? i mean, MEA is obviously inspired by ME1, it makes sense that there are similar frames they could pull. I don't get the animation complaints; I find them consistent with ME animations of the past brought forward where you'd expect them to be in five years, and besides, i'd take a plethora of cutscenes with a few animation bugs over the 1.2 cutscenes Inquisition had any day. I do, obviously, find the romance nonsense appalling. but the toxicity of the Gamergater type out there making fun of the game because the female faces aren't pretty enough.......... that's toxic, and omnipresent, and has definitely impacted the tone of the reception to the game imo.

Could I be mean to my crewmates? I need to be a complete ass to Jaal and Liam I know theres a choice that can result in Jaal breaking up with you if you romance him, hopefully it comes off just as spiteful regardless That would mean me having to play Sara. If I play as Sara it won't be to romance Jaal, that's for damn sure. I just want to throw him out the airlock.

I'm confused by Biofan's response? I mean we know Jaal can't be a thing. We know Gill and Reyes' romances already. Who else are you talking about then.

Ugh, I wasn't in the forums/stalking the internet for ME trilogy stuff when it was coming out, do I even want to know? Basically as stated. When the romances were FINALLY revealed and people questioned the lack of m/m once more one of the leads (Casey Hudson?) was like 'Shepard is more of a predetermined character than what we've done before, he's just not gay'. Unless he's a woman. Then he can be gay. He can be a gay woman. Of course, this comes with a lot of offensive implications and is generally utterly flawed and stupid and this was pointed out and perhaps helped get us bi Kaidan and Steve (don't worry Steve, I love you). How dare you question Mass Effect's artistic integrity!

Now that I've had some time to process it, the revelation that Jaal was never intended to be bi makes me feel a lot better. It wasn't about fears of scaring away the dudebros or not wanting to be labeled as SJWs. They just weren't thinking as much as they should have when they decided who the love interests should be. That's not a good thing obviously, but it means they can improve. I'm still disappointed, but I'm not angry anymore. Yeah I am not angry anymore at this point since I am too emotionally drained. I just feel so disappointed in Bioware.

One thing is for sure: When the initial hype and insanity passes, BioWare needs to read these responses. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, I really did. I wanted to think that there was some reason behind the logic that a LGBT+ character has to make sense somehow. Yet, this still leaves me with one big question. Why? Why are they deciding that people have to make sense in order not to be straight? Why are they basically telling that's us that are not straight that we don't make sense? Why are they getting worse with transgendered characters? Krem was a good start. Why are they deciding to be silent towards the fan base that was the most burned by ME, the gay men? I know that I find that hurtful and they haven't gotten much better over the years. I know they've come a very long way, but I'm so sick to death of the way they are making a checklist. I know one of the two ladies is going to be a horn dog, because one of the bi characters almost always is. Which yeah, as one of the many bisexual women that hates that trope, it's under my skin. Now it's coming across as a case of "hide the gay away." I do want to defend the ME:A team here and say that I don't think any of this was intentional. I do believe that whatever may come, they truly do want diversity in their games. However, I beginning to wonder if some of the long development time is showing here. The game has been in development for at least 4 years or so. During that time, folks have come and gone and I'm sure a lot of changes have been made. It's like...they didn't sit down and really pay attention to how that might have come across. Like they didn't see the bigger picture. It's hurtful, but again, not intentional. I did notice that Mac came back in about 2014, after ME:A was going. He hasn't been the best at presenting a positive image of any understanding to gay/bisexual men. It also shows that (as far as I know,) there is no LGBT+ writers or devs on the ME team. It's one thing to give it a real go and still have faults (like Weekes researching Krem,) it's another thing when it's done so poorly. Maybe if they had had some gay or bisexual men had actually seen the final version of the romance, they might have gone, "Gee, maybe this needs to be looked at again." The deafening silence from the entire MEA team so far is probably the most hurtful part. There's no way they don't know that we know we got fucked over. And their response is to not acknowledge us at all. And after all the queerbaiting tweets/comments last 2 weeks about how amazing Jaal's romance is. Ffffff

As a gay man how do you feel about all of this? I am very entertained by my love triangle lol. Play the game before you draw your conclusions is what I'll tell you. There's no more embargo. You can literally just say it now. People are tired of being strung along.

in that light it only seems fair i pay one third of the asking price at launch of the game, you know, since i will get one third of the content anyway. oh yes, discounted GOTY, here i come! GOTY? The way people are talking its not even the game of March. they can stick whatever label they please upon it, i plan to buy it when the price will match the content

I absolutely agree with you on this. I think it's just total cluelessness. Hopefully they have learned something from this. If we don't allow people to grow when they make mistakes, then it's a bad look on us. And I'm absolutely enraged about this. I am very entertained by my love triangle lol. Play the game before you draw your conclusions is what I'll tell you. Thanks for visiting again! Who is the love triangle? Hints? Rumor has it that Pee Bee caught your eye. So, I was told there is a gay male turian who can be flirted with on the Nexus. It's likely not a true romance but it is a thing? Da fuq? That would be AWESOME!

Maybe if they had had some gay or bisexual men had actually seen the final version of the romance, they might have gone, "Gee, maybe this needs to be looked at again." Okay, so here's an idea: threads like these are nigh impossible for the writers/devs to wade through. I wouldn't want to. It takes me two hours to catch up with what I've missed overnight. And twitter is a terrible forum for trying to get points across calmly and with any substance. So... How about we collate a set of responses - one from each of us. We can edit them together a little like that book I saw someone mention was done before about how romances made people feel. Each of us can spend some time to calmly think about how this all makes them feel. We can think about what BioWare has meant to us in the past. We can think about the joy certain things have brought us. We can use personal experiences if we feel able (or not, if we don't). And we can explain how we feel about this situation now. The key is to do it calmly. A person is far more likely to read a piece of feedback if it's neatly set out, if it doesn't start using capslock anger, and if it's heartfelt. And if we try our best to be as articulate as possible. We can bring all of these thoughts together, and someone can order them in a pdf or something, with or without names depending on what each of us prefers personally, and we can forward it to the devs. I certainly would be happy to help collate this information. Edit: also, for those of us who are going to be playing the game, I think we should wait a week or so before we start putting this together, so that we can cool down and approach it with all the information and all the level-headedness it requires.

and just to add, i intend to buy and play mea, i still want to see andromeda go through the new story of sci-fi opera action/rpg (all to rare thing)and eventually see how gil and reyes turn out. the game is not ALL about romance, romance is just quite important part of the character you choose to give special attention to. in that light it only seems fair i pay one third of the asking price at launch of the game, you know, since i will get one third of the content anyway. oh yes, discounted GOTY, here i come! GOTY? The way people are talking its not even the game of March. You must be new. Don't you know? "EVERY GAME IS THE WORST BIOWARE GAME EVER. IT WILL NEVER MATCH UP TO [the new hotness] or [nostalgia for an older BW title.] RAGE!! ...Even though I'll keep buying the games, the DLC and possibly the swag. Yeah, that'll show them." Hopefully you can tell my post is dripping with sarcasm. This isn't true of all fans, or all unhappy fans. This is a pretty small minority of folks that beat that drum to death. However, I've seen that constantly since I joined a BioWare game forum.
