Either he made a huge mistake or there is a bug in the game that makes Jaal not shut down Scott. And honestly if he exposed the bug to a dev that's something at least. You know what it's kind of mean but I hope there was a bug because that's more likely to make them talk about this rather than keep outright ignoring it. It's just so cruel. I go from sympathetic to getting irritated over and over, because they knew this but they kept incessantly teasing how awesome Jaal is. ARGH! This Starkles guy doesn't deserve hate though. It was careless of him to lie and say his character had sex with Jaal though.

One thing is for sure: When the initial hype and insanity passes, BioWare needs to read these responses. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, I really did. I wanted to think that there was some reason behind the logic that a LGBT+ character has to make sense somehow. Yet, this still leaves me with one big question. Why? Why are they deciding that people have to make sense in order not to be straight? Why are they basically telling that's us that are not straight that we don't make sense? Why are they getting worse with transgendered characters? Krem was a good start. Why are they deciding to be silent towards the fan base that was the most burned by ME, the gay men? I know that I find that hurtful and they haven't gotten much better over the years. I know they've come a very long way, but I'm so sick to death of the way they are making a checklist. I know one of the two ladies is going to be a horn dog, because one of the bi characters almost always is. Which yeah, as one of the many bisexual women that hates that trope, it's under my skin. Now it's coming across as a case of "hide the gay away." I do want to defend the ME:A team here and say that I don't think any of this was intentional. I do believe that whatever may come, they truly do want diversity in their games. However, I beginning to wonder if some of the long development time is showing here. The game has been in development for at least 4 years or so. During that time, folks have come and gone and I'm sure a lot of changes have been made. It's like...they didn't sit down and really pay attention to how that might have come across. Like they didn't see the bigger picture. It's hurtful, but again, not intentional. I did notice that Mac came back in about 2014, after ME:A was going. He hasn't been the best at presenting a positive image of any understanding to gay/bisexual men. It also shows that (as far as I know,) there is no LGBT+ writers or devs on the ME team. It's one thing to give it a real go and still have faults (like Weekes researching Krem,) it's another thing when it's done so poorly. Maybe if they had had some gay or bisexual men had actually seen the final version of the romance, they might have gone, "Gee, maybe this needs to be looked at again." Even though I've found my safe heaven when it comes to romance in this game, I gotta admit I still have this tiny bit of hope they'll fix this bs with a patch and make all teammates bi because it's the only truly fair choice. Vocal negativity these days may hurt them more than they think (and I'm not talking about SJW since they're a true minority, I'm talking about all of us - lgbt and straights - normal human beings with logical approach to this issue). It's not like you make a huge game, tons of mistakes, but screw them, next time people won't remember any of it. No. Internet never forgets. Social media never forgets. The stench will go after them forever unless they do something positive about that, proving they actually listen to us.
Equal romances - fail. 50/50 Scott/Sara promo - fail. Launch trailer Scott/Sara - fail. Huge world with tons of planets to visit and on all of them quests, collectables etc - fail. Human squadmates available to romance for both genders (after so many years of begging them) - fail. Animations - fail.
One studio can't fail over the years without any consequences. And simple "sorry" won't be enough. They can't be just sorry for ignoring simple wishes that would make the game more gamey for everyone.

The bare shade in this thread right now is just so satisfying to me. i Too true. The best thing about this I thought I was going to have a panic attack/meltdown when the straight Jaal news broke but I actually just went straight to being fucking righteously angry and it just feels good. My self-confidence is at an all time high ATM.

I played the game without this knowledge and had an enjoyable experience. You all are more than justified in the way you feel. I'm just relaying what I'm somewhat allowed to tell you from my own personal experience since several of you asked about it. Guess it is my fault I can't accept scraps from ME:A devs then. Huh. Guess that's life! silly silly silly me Be nice. BioFan doesn't mean any harm here. He is one of the biggest fans you'll ever meet, and he's not saying, "suck up and deal." He's saying, "I had fun, I hope you will too." He's also empathizing with us here. Sorry, not trying to whiteknight you BioFan , but I don't want anyone to get snarked at for no good reason.

Actual IGN review for ME:A considered the game to be "meh" if I remember things right. It's almost like they had a completely different version for press show, because back then everybody were "noice", "cool game", "10/10" and now it's more like "well, shit". okay but......... it's....... obviously much shinier???? like watching this how someone could make the argument that the two games are graphically comparable.......??? i mean, MEA is obviously inspired by ME1, it makes sense that there are similar frames they could pull. I don't get the animation complaints; I find them consistent with ME animations of the past brought forward where you'd expect them to be in five years, and besides, i'd take a plethora of cutscenes with a few animation bugs over the 1.2 cutscenes Inquisition had any day. I do, obviously, find the romance nonsense appalling. but the toxicity of the Gamergater type out there making fun of the game because the female faces aren't pretty enough.......... that's toxic, and omnipresent, and has definitely impacted the tone of the reception to the game imo. I personally don't find the game bad because female faces aren't pretty enough. I couldn't care less about female faces looking pretty, I'm a gay guy. But I find it bad regardless. I agree with some of reviewers. Not the ones who are "meh, faces aren't pretty" (and tbh I have yet to find any serious review about that coming from a solid source). The ones who are "this game has tons of problems". Yes, it looks shinier. Because it's 2017 and they are trying to pretend that they released an AAA game. It also has huge holes in its plot if you're not a diehard fan of a series and actually like when things have reasons to be as they are and not "just because". Game looks lazy. Very lazy. Same wildlife everywhere. "Hmp, noice spiders on Eos which is a huge radioactive desert. What's next? Riiiight, same spiders on Havarl which is a huge rainforest. Totes how nature works." Game looks like it was cut a few times. It lacks polish. It is not the state released AAA+ game should be in. I've seen near-indies for lesser price (10-20$) and looking almost as good. I've seen 2$ text games which made more sense than some plot of ME:A does. Srsly, game was awesome right until Aya. Were they making Eos and everything was looking good and then all their budget went to adding physics to boobs in sex scenes?

Can't believe I considered skipping class the day this game came out. I suppose I should thank Bio Ware I'm happily gonna go and get myself some education. That's nothing. I booked two fucking weeks off work for this game fml I took the week off for my birthday and to binge the game. I'll likely still enjoy it, but it's going to leave a bit of a bitter aftertaste, to be poetic.

The deafening silence from the entire MEA team so far is probably the most hurtful part. There's no way they don't know that we know we got fucked over. And their response is to not acknowledge us at all. And after all the queerbaiting tweets/comments last 2 weeks about how amazing Jaal's romance is. Ffffff They're busy with cooking Sara trailer. And probably shitting their pants because of mass pre-order cancellation.

I agree wholeheartedly. Bugthesda is Bugthesda and we know they'll always be Bugthesda. BioWare jank gonna BioWare jank. It's just the way it is. Look at the memes from the OT - we look on it fondly. I understand all the stuff about "but standards are higher now" but I never considered BioWare a company that prioritised everything being shiny and chrome over everything else. An Elder Scrolls game is always going to look crap against the backdrop of stuff like Dragon Age, and Mass Effect will look crap against a backdrop of stuff like *insert random AAA non-roleplaying SF title because I don't play much else* These studios prioritise different things. Bethesda couldn't do half of what they do if they concentrated on high end graphics. And BioWare couldn't do as much as they do if they put their focus elsewhere. Could it have looked better? Probably. But I didn't expect it. And I certainly don't demand it. Equal representation though? That I fucking demand.

amoebae † I would absolutely be on board for something like that. Mildly related: I canceled my preorder a few minutes ago. Maybe I'll pick it up if there's a sale and/or some of the more glaring issues are fixed, but as is I can't in good conscience buy and play it on launch. Really hoping we get another AAA space opera RPG in the next ten years; I'd hate it if the original trilogy turned out to be a flash in the pan for the subgenre.

Not all embargoes are created equal Wait so when you will be allowed to openly discuss everything in game? I thought you could already since all vids and reviews are out How can Lady Insanity have streams, talk about her sympathy for the Jaal-is-straight debacle, and BioFan cant even talk about his love triangle? Shady as hell.

I left a response in the early access feedback thread since there was a chance Ian was there. People can feel free to send that to Bioware if they want. And if someone wants me to help with a collection of complaints, just PM me and I'll be happy to write something up. Now that we know the truth about the coding, I'm more optimistic that they'll be able to improve in the next game. They've done it before.

and just to add, i intend to buy and play mea, i still want to see andromeda go through the new story of sci-fi opera action/rpg (all to rare thing)and eventually see how gil and reyes turn out. the game is not ALL about romance, romance is just quite important part of the character you choose to give special attention to. in that light it only seems fair i pay one third of the asking price at launch of the game, you know, since i will get one third of the content anyway. oh yes, discounted GOTY, here i come! MEA GOTY? *insert maniacal laughter* Yeah, not going to happen.

I had to call EA but I managed to get a refund whooo.
I'll buy when it's dirt cheap. Shouldn't be too long.
