I'm liking everybody so far but I wouldn't sacrifice whether I liked them or not on a canon run though.

It's way too early for me to make this decision. I really need to know the characters.

That being said, I would definitely NOT be upset about another Virmire situation. I hate optional deaths because as soon as I know how to avoid them, it takes the emotion out of it. Wrex is a good example. I know how to avoid it, so if he dies, it's because I (the player) chose it when I didn't have to. So it loses the emotional impact. I was picking it, after all. The same with the suicide mission. To lose anyone, I'd have to actively choose not to fully upgrade the ship, do a loyalty mission, or pick the appropriate person for a task. Why would Tali's death be impactful if I knew it was going to happen and actively chose to do the tasks that would lead to it.

Virmire is much better because it doesn't matter what choices I make -- someone's not coming back from that mission. Maybe that particular choice isn't tough for me (Ashley is annoying and Kaidan is all the sex), but choices like that are more interesting to me. The only potential downside to it is that often those characters become mutually exclusive and then share similar content for "zots" reasons. But if they can figure out how to do that well, it's a more preferable plot point for me.

 oh dear, let's not get into an 'incest debate' @2f. BioWare is hardly intolerant by not going there... 

Perhaps because:

• Some of the aliens are awesome
• BioWare don't want a restricted rating
• It's just not cool

Ended up choosing Vetra simply because she's the character so far I find least interesting and have no intention of romancing even if she is an option. Plus if she's anything like Nyreen I'll be cheering her death.

I can't choose lol. I hate it when my people on my team die and I don't know enough about anyone to form much of an opinion yet. But if I had to choose now I'd choose Drack. He is apparently very old, so he lived a full life. Plus he is a krogan, they seem to value dying in battle.

Drack. Krogans just love to sacrifice themselves in a blaze of glory. Well, Turian do to, but that's the first female Turian I see, and I've talked to a bunch of male krogans before, so I am not nuking Vetra!
