I really hope they do bend it a little. I'd be a little sad if I never again got rocket spammed by geth, staggered by bombers, executed by banshees, or surprised by phantoms. I would have thought most people would have preferred never to see or hear of the Reapers ever again?! We're not, actually, compared to ME3. We already know of 3 factions we'll be fighting, presumably the same in MP: 1. Raiders/Anarchists - Replacement for Cerberus*, but more interesting since they're all of the friendly races including Angaarans. Mix of all ability types. 2. Kett - Replacement for Collectors* They are actually quite Collector-like in appearance, and I bet they'll play similarly due to having many different types of the same species in combat as well as using biotics. 3. Remnant (drones?) - Replacement for Geth*, of course. Lots of tech. * In gameplay Story-wise, it's hard to say how much of an antagonistic role 1 & 3 will have. The Remnant drones could be hostile by default, since you're accessing their stuff, and the Remnants themselves might not be, if they're alive in some way. Raiders don't seem unified since they're killing each other, but there could still be an infighting story about a more unified group with a more clear leader. We are still one short, and tbh, I would actually would not have minded going more Factions rather than less. Technically we're not if your comparing vanilla game, which would be logical considering it's probably highly likely that down the route more groups get added. Kett in place of Reapers. Raiders in place of Cerberus. Remnant in place of Geth. I would personally be happy enough with just those three in the beginning. With regards to the actual thread title: I'm hoping for pure canon initially. The MP is supposed to be set in Andromeda so it would make sense for it to only feature races and weapons seen in Andromeda. I think there would be more than enough there for us to get our teeth stuck in to to not need to flesh out the mp any more with races/enemies/weapons from the Milky Way that didn't make it to Andromeda. That said, 6 months to a year down the line when everyone has mastered all there is to master and things are getting a little stale i'd be more than happy with some canon breaking to introduce more variety to the gameplay. Although that doesn't include Reapers, don't want them anywhere near Andromeda in any way. |

Regarding the question of pure canon or little canon, I feel that keeping it in-canon would be greatly beneficial for this game. Us as consumers still do not know the full extent of this game nor all of the races. I do not think Bioware has shown us everything in Andromeda, with them stating the Kett are just a branch of the main campaign, there is probably a lot more races. Considering it is a new system in a new galaxy I doubt they would only give us 3 new races. A departure from the Milky Way should not contain the races we know and a few new races, we should be a small speck of races in the spectrum of this galaxy. There are a lot of unique races in the Milky Way, especially those who have not discovered space travel. We might meet a lot more than there letting on, but who knows? Besides Bioware of course...

I don't need any connection to the single player and its setting. On the contrary... for example I want to play as Drell and Geth and I want a Javelin in MP and I highly doubt any of those will be in SP.

My preference is to have a little bit of canon bending. But nothing too over-the-top. Have a bit of fun with it, add classes and weapons that don't necessarily make great sense canon-wise (like the playable Collector and their weapons), or a faction that isn't REALLY active/populus enough to be around that much (again like Collectors). But please don't throw things that completely don't belong into MP just because you can. I'm OK with one or two characters from races that aren't supposed to be there, so long as they are limited to only one or two - after all, with all the multi-race relationships around, who's to say that some Turian didn't bring along his Quarian wife or something? Because there is a distinct lack of that happening in ME3MP. |
