I think it is time for a ME movie.

Movies based on video games do not have the best reputation. I'm not so keen on the idea, but I'll admit I don't think I've ever seen one, not even Paragon Lost. Perhaps I should.

Focusing on Shepard is totally out of the question, as their character and their decisions within the story is all based on player choice, so a lot of those choices can't be made "canon". Focusing on other characters in the same universe would be the better option.

A movie is setting up for failure, but a tv series could work. Halo's "Forward Unto Dawn" is said to be pretty good from what I've heard. It could be made like Star Wars Rogue One, about a small group of soldiers on a mission during the Reaper War.

As I said ,not a movie about Shepard or anything we've seen in the games .it can be unrelated.Or based on pre existing lore. For example humanities entrance into the Galactic Community, First Contact War etc. Or a new spin off story. Bioware could expand the universe and franchise with new stories
For example, the Assassin's Creed movie that came out features a nee protagonist ,not the game ones and therefore doesn't really screw with the games.It just expands the franchise. Kinda like the novels and comics did for ME, but better.

I know game movies have been trash for years but that it changing...One movie at a time. I think a Witcher series and Halo series is in the making ,we are expecting a Tomb Raider reboot based on the game reboot , the AC movie wasn't bad,there are talks about a "The Last of Us" film ...I dunno I 'm just hoping I could see my favourite sci-fi universe in live action one day

If a movie was made about Shepard it'll either be FemShep romancing Kaidan or BroShep romancing probably Liara.  Neither scenario appeals to me.  This is a reason I wouldn't want a Shepard focus.  

As said above, maybe First Contact War would work.  Hell, even one of the novels since they don't (I guess, haven't read them but partway through the first) contradict game lore.

I would like that Yvonne Strahovski be main female actor, but with who Shepard will end on end of trilogy Miranda or Liara?

Who else?

Kaidan, which won't happen, so I don't want a movie made about Shepard.

I think the best option for the movie would be a start from the very beginning. A new tech, start of the exploration, first contact and the war afterwards. And make Alec Ryder one of the main characters. Boom, several birds with one stone.

Video game movies have failed time and again, but they'll always keep making them. It's just how the business works. The failure of video games movies never stopped Assassin's Creed, one of the biggest video game franchises of all time, after all.

That being said, I feel like we wouldn't get a Mass Effect movie so soon - at least not before the longstanding production of the Halo movie come to a closure. I don't really have any evidence to support this, just a gut feeling, but Halo's been in production for so long, and Mass Effect came several years after Halo and might even take another several years in the future to have a proper script.

On the other hand, Mass Effect is easily one of the easiest adaptable games due to its cinematic sequences. Let's face it - the cinematic storytelling's the real beef here in Mass Effect. A lot of other video games are well-known because of their gameplay, but Mass Effect has always been about the story, something that's more manageable in an adaptation (because filmmakers still have no damn clue how to "adapt" gameplay properly, if at all). The problem is that it would definitely be condensed down into a 2 hour (or less) movie, missing out on a lot of details. It would work far better if it's a TV series, especially for Mass Effect 2, which is kinda like a TV series on its own. I'm thinking Battlestar Galactica style.

But, pipe dream. It won't happen. Video games won't make abundant treading onto the small-screen yet, I feel. It's too risky... and more suitable for a platform like Netflix. I could definitely see a platform like Netflix (which produced the daring heights of Daredevil and Jessica Jones) making one of these video game TV series.

it takes several hours in order to fully explore a mass effect game by way of its races, its lore, its characters, its decisions.

A movie hardly goes beyond the 2 hour range. And the public has no control over the decisions the main character takes.

I do like the setting of humanity starting as an underdog trying to hear a higher place and prove its worth to the galaxy. I do like the alien races and the way they relate to each other. I do like the story about reaping different organic species from time to time.

But I still think a mini-series from netflix or some other stream service like prime would be better suited in order to explore the story.

In just 2 hours things would be bland, or very fast.

The dedicated fanbase of ME is what? 2-3 million?

Let's say 2.5m.

If all those fans showed up for a ME movie at an average ticket price of $10, that's $25m gross. Studios get 50% of the gross so they get $12.5m out of the fanbase.

Not going to happen.

I could imagine a tv show that uses the ME universe as a background, but tehre should be no character from the games in it. The posts show the problem: 'My Shep is female and romanced xy' , 'No male and romanced ABC'.
They already did butcher Revan for me (my Revan was female and killed Bastilla, who went dark side, canon Revan is a male and lived happily ever after with Bastilla - for example) - that shouldn't happen again.
But the universe is interesting and there are tons of other stories to tell

I would never support making any of the OT into a movie. I just don't think the story translates well to the big screen. I could see a movie about the first contact war, with Alec Ryder, Anderson, Hackett and Ashley's grandfather - but I do not think it would have any appeal outside of ME fans.

Its also very hard for me to see it get the funding and production value it deserves to not be a joke. Look at what they did with the Kilrathi in the Wing Commander movie. They could easily make the Asari, Turians, Salarians, Krogan..etc look really bad on camera and kill the movie.
