In my mild obsession and sadness about Thane's death, I learned that he didn't have to die, even in the vanilla version. apparently, if I avoided talking to him at the Citadel, he wouldn't have been informed enough to go and do things and take the Assassin's blade. So much death, because of my poor choices. :/ How was I to know? He's my romance, seeing him again sounded like THE thing to do when I got his letter. Anything that said that Shepherd could die in Me3 contained obvious spoilers, so nothing to do about that, I guess. I don't want anyone else to die, I just want Shepherd to die. For the first time ever, I appreciate the Ultimate Sacrifice Option in DAO

Although the urge to beat the game ASAP so I can kill Kai Leng quickly is within me... I work tomorrow. And today, I have lost Mordin....and my lover, Thane Krios and I kinda need time to grieve these fictional characters, guys. Probably weird to say that. Until next time.
My first game, I cured the genophage and Mordin died. Then, I went back to the Citadel and Thane died (I wasn't romancing him that time THANK THE MAKER!). THEN I did the rachni mission and GRUNT ALMOST DIED.
I was a wreck, just like you are now. And like I said earlier, if Grunt had died I would have tossed the game out the airlock. It was too much terrible all in a row. Now even though I know what happens when, I still try to do stuff in between those missions to stem the tide of woe.
Take heart - you WILL get some payback. Make sure you take the interrupt when it happens.
That's pretty cool, we're on the same page when it comes to first PTs. Who did you romance the first time? and did seeing Thane die make you want to romance him your second time? I'll be sure to space them out next time. A Renegade interupt?

Thane still dies if you don't talk to him - you just don't see it since it's the illness that kills him, not Leng.

I'll be sure to space them out next time. A Renegade interupt? I romanced Garrus in my first ME2/3 runs. He pretty much had me at the reveal in ME2. I didn't get around to romancing Thane until my 4th ME2 game and 7th ME3 game. I was just transcribing some of my PT notes earlier this evening so I've got my lists right in front of me. I romanced Thane a couple more times after that but used ThaneMod for ME3 so he didn't die.

I had some wet eyes for Mordin. And felt a little choked up about Grunt -- jerks thought they could trick me! With Thane I just... idk, I think maybe by that point I was more aggravated than sad. Like WHY DID SHEPARD & CO JUST STAND THERE AND LET HIM GET STABBED BY SOME CERBERUS ASSHAT WITH A SWORD It was a serious downer, as Mordin and Thane were my 2 favorites to use in ME2, and then losing them so close together... Kai Leng... what a jackass.

I read some non spoil thoughts about it and people were like, "Why wouldn't you want him to die quick protecting someone instead of slow and painful later?" I don't want him to die at all, so there. I think I would go Thane mod all the way the next time I romanced him.

It's really a bad cinematic because it looks like everyone is standing around doing nothing. Well, 'cause they are. In my head though, I imagine the two of them are fighting and moving at such lightning speed that any attempt to shoot Leng would just as likely hit Thane, richochet weirdly, or miss entirely. They wanted the fight to "look cool" but instead everyone looks like maroons.*

The whole thing was crap.
They labeled Leng as an assassin, but he's not. An assassin would have killed the councilor right away. Then Thane stands still like an idiot not shooting the guy when he had the chance. Then he decides to show what happens when you play chicken. Of course Commander dumba** and squadmates, useless and worthless, stand around doing nothing.
After Thane knocks Leng to the ground, just have Leng escape. Thane survives. He could show up in the Citadel dlc. Just before Cronos, Shepard receives an email from Kolyat that says Thane's health has deteriorated quickly. Shepard shows up for a final goodbye.
The same with Kirrahe. His death was lame.
Bioware wanted a death. It was done for the feels

So I finished what I had to do and wanted to play a bit more, but no major drama missions. Just make a round of every one, low key.
But also to find out what drinking six drinks gets me. But not before I change my uniform to that black dress so I head to the Normandy and get forced into a scene.
Kaidan is grumpy about Udina and asks me if I would have been willing to shoot him. Before Thane died, probably not. After? I'm numb and violent and... Vengeful. Javik and I have that in common. So I pretty much admit I would have been willing to shoot him. And he gives me a boy scout speech I want to yell at him about.
No one has said a thing about Thane yet but I haven't finished my rounds- not like Traynor would say anything. Go up to my office to chane. Feed the fish. Tap the mouse. The MEEP doesn't make me smile.
Read Thane's letter. It's so good. Loved listening to the audio version better on that website.
And oh neat- that guy Jack and I didn't kill in ME2 saved a bunch of children.
Now people are coming to my room and flirting with me. Wow. Bad timing for Thane mancers Bioware. It's a bit nauseating. Ugh- femshep flirts with James no matter what :X I imagine that Shepherd is putting on a show for morale.
I forget what I was planning to do and continue my round.
Really?! We're standing in front of a monument of dead friends- Thane's name has joined it, right there! Garrus talks about Kaidan and Ashley instead.
Kaidan talks about his dad, but whatever, he didn't know Thane. Kaidan goes on about how I stay together no matter what. Ha. Like Bioware would let me cry. Use the renegade prompt and say I focus my anger.
Finish the rounds. Oh yeah. The dress. Change and hit Purgatory. Talk to Jack. We dance. I drink, then dance, then drink , dance, drink. Aria's couch. I tell Joker to go for it with EDI and sound totally hammered I repeat the cycle... Well. That wasn't funny but it pretty much sums up how my Shepherd feels. She can't cry but she can get embarrassing drunk in a "you have a problem" way.
And I'm done.

Bioware wanted a death. It was done for the feels Bioware writers should take a look at Horizon Zero Dawn. HZD writers did the deaths within a well written immersive story tapestry. Characters died as an objective consequence of actions / events set in motion.

Nobody is gonna say anything about Thane. It's a horrendous oversight by Bio... :wtf: :sob: And my poor space wizard. I'll say I was IMMENSELY relieved I didn't have to kill Kaidan. Don't care if I'm in the minority. Just NOPE to all of that. :smh: Terrible enough alone, even worse on top of losing Mordin and Thane.

I always do the excessive drinking right after Citadel II... even the strongest of Shepards should be able to lose it for one night after a day like that. For Femshep, it's entirely possible for her to have lost both her ME1 and ME2 lovers in one day and the crew, generally, is only a little more understanding if a romanced Kaidan bites it). It's one reason I don't play FemShep.

I definitely felt like I went on a ride. ME2 was way happier than ME3 has been. accidentally stumbled on some semi correct choices, had everyone's loyalty, and according to Dragon, importing a save helped a lot. I still haven't seen any fallout from Legion dying but the Geth/Quarian part is coming up I guess.

It's a pretty complicated reputation check. If you're mean to him on Mars and don't visit him in the hospital, the player can easily get into a position where he absolutely cannot be talked down and, if the player doesn't shoot him, one of the squad mates will. You can just imagine how that might feel if the ME2 romancee was Garrus and... if Garrus is on the squad, he WILL be the one to shoot Kaidan. The conversation with Garrus at the Normandy Memorial Wall changes quite a bit depending on the various circumstances of what happens. That's why that conversation, I think, just doesn't get around to even mentioning poor Thane.

When facing Ashley/Kaidan, they can be shot or not regardless of what was done before that. The key is using the interrupt.
I've had it where I was nice to Ashley on Mars, visited her in the hospital and the salarian councilor survived. I still shot her. I've had it where I was mean to her on Mars, never saw her in the hospital and the councilor was killed. I did not shoot her nor did a squadmate.
The problem I have is when Udina says Shepard is working with Cerberus, the squadmates don't speak up for Shepard. Even when he shows the video of Shepard shooting the councilor, they still don't say nothing. What's the point of having squadmates if they don't have your back? They're quick to shoot A/K, but not when it comes to speaking up for Shepard.
The other thing is, I like Udina, so I would have shot the guy in the arm/shoulder instead of killing him.

I have had circumstances where it was impossible to shoot her/him and circumstances where it was impossible not to shoot her/him. Lowering the weapons (i.e. using the interrupt) can tip the scale, but it's not the only thing that can. I've also had a situation when I have kept my weapons drawn (i.e. not used the interrupt) and still had them back down. It's a complicated reputation check that also takes in whether or not the VS was romanced, whether or not they were cheated upon... and how it all ultimately adds up is what matters.
