Finally got high enough level over the weekend to play ranked. So I did my placement matches and I ranked at 2536 and made platinum. Then I lost like 4 in a row and dropped to 2397 before winning a couple to end around 2430 or so but I'm now in gold. haha I'm terrible at this game. Seems I need to quit trying to actually aim and just spam the trigger and abilities. At least that's what it looks like the people are doing on the kill cams to me  |

At least that's what it looks like the people are doing on the kill cams to me Don't be disheartened, everyone starts out terrible and starting out at Plat is actually pretty respectable. I cringe watching some of my old games, they're that bad. As for abilities, at Gold/Plat SR a lot of things are done for no particular rhyme or reason including using abilities. Learning to be disciplined and save your abilities for when they may be needed is something that will come with time. As an example, playing Reinhardt and holding up your shield at a choke might allow your DPS to poke safely but unless they can get a pick, you're not going to be moving forward and if your shield breaks in the meantime, then you're going to have to take cover until it's recharged. So instead of just holding up the shield to absorb every bit of incoming damage, stop being a pussy and swing the hammer until the enemy team backs the fuck up. |

I started in gold, so being placed in plat is great! At my best I managed to work myself up to mid diamond, but the Mercy changes kinda threw me off and now I'm glad if I just get placed in plat. Different characters are more or less easy to climb with, so if you got to plat with Ana (that I know you like) considering she's not considered the best pick that's even better!

I feel like I die super fast if I don't hold the shield up, maybe I've had bad healers or something. lol Still don't know who my main will be (as it seems the characters I'd actually like to use are pointless in Symmetra, Torb, and Widow. The first two are at least useful-ish on Defend, but Widow seems terrible in both roles unless you have someone with godlike aim. Maybe it's different in the uber ranks, but right now, every time someone picks her I just think, "here comes the loss" lol), but it seems I do the best in ranked with D.Va. I'm warming up to Soldier 76 a bit too. At first I hated him cause he felt very CoD. I don't like any healers except Ana but I do terrible with her in ranked. So I'm basically Tank/Soldier 76/ or Mercy. I started in gold, so being placed in plat is great! The biggest tips I can offer are: - Look at your fellow tank, then ask yourself what they can do to help you get in position to swing the hammer and what you can do to help them facilitate this. Whereas Roadhog can pump out a ton of damage into barriers and the threat of his hook forces enemies to be more passive, Zarya would prefer you be aggressive so she can gain charge. I might put up more tips later but I'm tired as hell right now. |

Like Offense is clearly the DPS role, Tank is clearly the front line, Support is the back line. But I'm not sure what defense is supposed to do...
I feel like they could just delete that "role." Hanzo, Junk, Bastion and Widow should be in Offense. And if Sym is "support" then Mei and Torb could be as well.
ETA:
Sym doesn't heal as far as I know, idk why she's a support. She'd fit better under the defense role lol

Obviously their better suited on defense but in today's Meta, Hanzo, Widowmaker and Junkrat are utilized on offense due to the killrate they have. |

I've been abusing the Avoid As Teammate feature lately in order to climb.
Nothing crazy, I'd just avoid people who I knew were either throwers or so predictable with their hero picks and playstyle that I could gain SR just by hard countering them.
I'm back at Diamond after a short time out of it.

sgtreed24 It depends usually on how many bugs they find, if the character is mostly bug-free and seem balanced they sometime can come to live fairly quickly. I'm guessing Symmetra will spend at least 3-4 weeks on the ptr though.

Can't heal through barriers is confirmed (and reported to be extremely buggy now), others claim that her healing-pool regeneration when dealing damage was nerfed as well and also her ability to contest while in fade. If these are true I will be sooo pissed at Blizzard! |
