42. You get a cookie for getting the reference I think you got it! To my recollection, Deep Thought said it was a pretty good answer, just not by its Creators' standards. It then retorted that one needs the ultimate question to get an ultimate answer because its Creators didn't really ask the right question.

Oh no I have a hard time reading any book, never mind a romantic novel. I was curious as to what 'effect' it has on the fairer sex and why (some of) you enjoy reading them. Is it for the specific erotic scenes, the romance or whatever other stuff is in it? Are there any particular ones that are your favourites and what about them do you like? I am genuinely curious. A well written erotic novel can be sensual, entertaining and a good read. They're an escape from the humdrum ordinary. Yes, the erotic scenes are nice and the romantic plotline is fun. I haven't picked up a book in years, but I would say I really enjoyed the contemporary stories Harlequin 'Temptation' & 'Blaze' and Sillhouette 'Desire' put out as well as all the historical romances I used to read. Patricia Matthews, Johanna Lindsey, Kathleen E Woodiwiss, Fern Michaels, Colleen Faulkner...etc. Apologies Vivainadx, I missed this post last night for some reason. Thanks for the detailed response. Would you say erotic fiction (or whatever it's called) was one of your favourite genres when you used to read books?

DomeWing has a fair point. We men can be visual creatures, illustrations would be a vital aid to our education on this matter. Is that really true, about men being a bit more visually based when it comes to stimulation or is it just a common thing to say about genders that's easily misapplied? To answer your earlier question about novels for women...I'm gonna guess it's like...Bioware's romance content. But more graphic I suppose. *scratches head* Not everyone's cup of tea, but it helps give life to a story, makes things more immersive. Depends I guess. If you're talking about trashy romance novels, I equate that to porn but if you're talking about good stories then it enhances the character. Don't know, I'm just playing around. What do you mean by trashy romance novels? Are they like books that written specifically about sex and stuff for titillation? Do you prefer novels that aren't specifically about a character's romance arks but just happen to have them anyway like you said as a way to be more immersed in the story?

You could say that and men are the biggest freaks of all because we've been programmed that way. No, I can't. I've met enough men in my life to know that each one is different, with their own personalities and their own beliefs. Same with women. You can't lump everyone into the same pile and it's stupid to try. Am I a freak? Please say yes

Crappy boob jobs and c-section scars gives you high standards? What shit tier level porn do you watch? I'll be brief with this so here it is: Hardcore, Squirting, Softcore, and Lesbian. As for porn in general for me it depends on the performance and how kinky it is.

You may be speaking for yourself and others you may know, but you can't say ALL men are like that, you're just searching for a way to justify your obsessions. Yes, for the most part humans are sensual in nature, but it isn't a constant priority. Other needs also have to be met.

You may find a few but they are very rare to find, and Chris Rock is right it is very hard for a man to turn down sex.

Some guys actually have the self-control to prioritize.

@women of BSN Erotic novels? What's the deal with them? Regards, A confused person
Hm, see... I kinda like erotic novels, some of them are pretty bad but there are a few good ones out there (and even a few I like even though theyre very bad... although that might be because I find them funny with their awful writing).
My favorites though are the ones which are basically maybe something like fantasy or sci-fi or something like that but contain some erotic scenes, theyre the ones which I find are best, but I do read/own some exclusively erotic novels
And theres a pretty good reason for that haha, I mentioned before my general dislike of added on/forced romances between characters who would never be together but happen to be together just for the sake of having a romantic subplot... I like romances to have more depth and realism which is where romance/erotic novels come in because well... as I said there are some bad ones but overall they do a pretty good job I think
But what you said generally reminds me of my thoughts about pornography, Ive never watched it and I dont really understand why people want to... I cant imagine myself ever thinking "I want to watch two complete strangers having sex because they get paid for it"
At least in books, the romance is... well Id say real, but theyre fictional, so a kind of fictional-real I guess... the characters genuinely care for each other, and I find that better than anything else, I wouldnt be as interested if they didnt... I wouldnt find it entertaining at all
Plus like imagination is a thing one of the best things any form of fiction can do is get your mind working!
Ive always kinda categorized romantic/erotic novels and relationships as a whole whether fictional or real by my ability to fangirl over them, so thats my general stance on things... I like to fangirl over relationships, I like to ship characters, and I dont really see myself doing that if it came to some er other types of erotic/graphic media, but with books I cannnnnn

Also @theabovediscussionaboutfreaksandwhatnot - I agree with what @vivainadx is saying individualism yay! This conversation reminds me of one I had on the old bsn when someone started saying that people should read a book to see what women are into... my stance on things was "Hang on... does a book written a looonnngggg time ago and interviews women who werent me dictate what Im into??? " There are some similarities between people of similar you know, groups... but everyone is different, and everyone is into different things... I think things will probably be pretty equal to be honest

How detailed do these romantic books of yours go? Is it all like insinuated or does the author actually describe every detail of what's going on when they are doing the dirty? It's not for me btw I'm just asking for Domewing, I think he needs a bit of sensual reading material.

I usually stick to fantasy games where I have a sword or daggers.
