Dragon Age Roleplay (OOC discussion and new story discussion)

Lately the forum has experienced a lot of drama especially in the ME: A sub forum. A lot of members have deleted their accounts because of the constant drama. What I want to do is to promote the RP as a fun experience to get away from all the conflict that's happening. But i need you guys help, please spread the RP around so more people can come and hopefully not delete their accounts!

He's a great character. Have you thought of starting a thread yourself? I haven't seen a lot of new stories start up lately.

If it were me, I would definitely NOT appreciate spam in my PM inbox. People can see the forums down here just fine.

For starters, your intro post. I really liked the fact that you made a Youtube video of your rallying speech. It felt epic and immersive. I also liked that you made a map of a rebuilt Lothering for visual representation and I enjoyed the letters as well. 

Well, the concept is a rescue mission.

In view of the rather depressing revelations on Twitter concerning Mike Laidlaw and the uncertainty that has created all round, I thought it might be the right time to resurrect the Grand Tourney to cheer people up. Here is the basic premise:

The initial idea for this came from the Core Rule Book adventure but I have changed the underlying plot that needs to be investigated to reflect a much later time scale and different motivation for the main antagonists other than simply sabotaging the event. I have used the background information on Cumberland and the Grand Tourney generally to describe the setting but have added in some ideas of my own.

I decided to make the Grand Tourney a team event so the ultimate prize goes to the winning team rather than an individual. This means the occasion will be a bit like a Thedas Olympics at the instigation of Divine Leliana. In the spirit of the modern Olympics it is meant to foster goodwill between nations rather than be political but we know how well that worked out in real life!

There are a lot other activities going on at the same time as the sporting events as many people see the opportunity of making money or connections during the event. So there are merchants in attendance, craftspeople demonstrating their skills and lots of social gatherings. The Grand Tourney is a bit like a combination of the Olympics, Glastonbury and Expo World Fair. This means it will not just be of interest to fighting types.

The basic premise is that the Grand Tourney has a sponsor and it is to be held in the Nevarran city of Cumberland. The ultimate prize for the winning team is a Hammer, the Anvilbreaker, that belonged to one of the Dwarven Paragons, thought lost forever but recently discovered in the Deep Roads by a team working for the sponsor of the Tourney. This is not a weapon but an enchanted tool used for smithing and the properties it possesses are unique. As a consequence the dwarves will kill (literally) to get their hands on it. Any nation would find it useful in making enchanted weapons. The Circle of Magi/College of Enchanters would also find it helpful given how few tranquil were left alive by the Venatori (enchanted items were their main source of revenue in the old days). Of course, there is a lot of national pride involved for the other teams as well, which will be their main focus as much as the hammer.

I have revised the format from the one I suggested a few weeks ago. Essentially I will suggest various roles that you could adopt with your PC but it is entirely up to you weather you want to attend as part of a team or an interested by-stander. I have given suggestions as to participants in the actual teams. You could either develop one of these as a new PC or substitute your own PC where appropriate.

Major plot line: The Sponsor of the event wishes to recruit people to investigate suspicious deaths and strange occurrences that have been happening over the preceding weeks and may be connected to the games in some way. The PCs involved with this can either be doing so in addition to their participation in the Tourney or can be attending the event as spectators and get involved as interested by-standers who may even have witnessed some of the disturbances.

If you think this would be of interest, please let me know on this thread and I will ask Sofa Jockey to reinstate the Grand Tourney OOC, where I will post more information. Even if you haven't time to join straight away, please say if you would like to do so in the future. The beauty of the Grand Tourney is that there is a bit of a lead in after it has been announced, while teams are gathered and travel to the venue, so your character doesn't have to be involved from the outset, particularly if they are simply attending the event as an interested party rather than as part of a team.

Some people have NOT gotten along in the RP Section before today. I personally get along with these people. I hope that history's misunderstandings do NOT lead you to avoid working with any one individual.
