@morriganfaye looks like a great character! any plans for her yet? I'm not sure what plans to make. She just sort of came to me after I was invited to the group. I love coming up with characters so this is fun for me. What do you all do with your characters? There are so many great ones here. I love to see the creativity. And it's so much more positive here than other areas of the forum. Well we can always use more story threads. Anyone can start one so if you have an idea for a story feel free to start one. I'm mostly here to help people get started so feel free to ask questions of you have any.

I wouldn't mind cocreating a story with others if they are interested. My timeline is concurrent with DAO at this point but given that a lot of the threads are inquisition time frame, I wouldn't mind bringing her up to current time with some key events. I'm not sure if anyone has a character for the time period I am in. I've never RPed like this before but I've read some of the threads to get an idea.
This is a character thread though. Is there a place I can discuss stuff or bounce some ideas around? I don't think I have access to start one from what I can see.

ELLAS – Our Hope Race: Elf – Former Dalish. Approximate age early 20s. (Born 9:25 Dragon) Class: Mage - Shapeshifter Appearance:
He is taller than the majority of modern elves, androgynous with long platinum blond hair, that hangs well past his shoulders, and blue eyes which can be terrifying in their intensity when he fixes you with his gaze. Without a doubt you would call him beautiful more than simply handsome and he moves with a feline grace. His voice though is masculine, deep and melodic. (A soft Dalish/Irish accent). In fact you can often hear him humming a tune softly to pass the time. He favours simple robes in green and grey as befits his heritage but embroidered with intricate patterns that were taught him by his mother depicting stylised animals and plants. He wears moccasins in summer and boots in winter. His staff is a simple oaken branch topped with eagle feathers. When entertaining he wears his pied piper costume (see below).
Personality: He has a generally optimistic, light-hearted approach to life (he admits he slips into whimsy at moments of high drama) but can be terrifying when angry, particularly when he thinks people he cares about have been threatened. He gives the impression of self-confidence that some might describe as cocky.
History:
The first thing that would strike you about Ellas is that he has no vallaslin, which is almost unheard of for a Dalish of his age. His knowledge of Dalish lore is very comprehensive, which would suggest that at one time he was a Keeper’s apprentice. If questioned about his origins he will admit that he and the Keeper of his clan had “differences of opinion”, which is a euphemistic way of describing their relationship. On the vallaslin issue, he wanted the vallaslin of Fen’Harel. When informed that he had no vallaslin, Ellas asked the very sensible question “why not?” The Keeper had no answer whereas Ellas put forward what he considered his 3 sound reasons for why Fen’Harel was the only god worth having. In the end, the Keeper said that perhaps Ellas needed more time to consider the matter as he clearly wasn’t ready. As Ellas puts it “So in the eyes of the Dalish I am still a child.”
Someone once said “Give me the child until seven years of age and I will give you the man”. Up until the age of 10, Ellas was living with his father, Darian (a former Circle mage), and his mother, Imowen, in the forest away from the clan. Ellas’ father taught him to question everything rather than simply accept what people tell you. “Never believe all you see, much less all you hear. This is a good maxim whether within or outside the Fade. My Da’ taught me that. He said to never stop asking questions, that way one day you may eventually find out the truth.”
This is why Ellas found it hard to simply accept the traditions and customs of the Dalish as presented to him by the Keeper, particularly when what was being stated seemed to not stand up to logical scrutiny. It is clear from his accounts that his father was by far the greatest influence on his formative years, although his mother played her part as well. During those first ten years their little family was not part of the clan as Darian accepted the Keeper's argument that the Templars would never stop tracking him down since he had killed his original pursuers and so allowing him to enter the clan would bring them all into danger. His mother was asked to choose between the clan and her love. She chose the latter and not long after Ellas was born.
As may be imagined, this means that he has a discerning approach to Dalish tradition. He doesn’t have respect for any of the gods apart from Fen’Harel. Shartan is also his hero. He wants to honour his memory reminding people that it was he who set the elves free in the past and Andraste saw him as her equal. They were united against a common foe and he feels the elves should unite with good people of all races to combat the evils of the world. “One day all elves will be equal citizens of Thedas. That is my dream." His list of friends illustrate his attitude to other races. They comprise Bann Oswyn Sighard of Dragon’s Peak, Jasce an Ash Warrior with Scruffy his mabari, Burren the “untraditional” gay dwarf and Gerry the transgender elf.
He is a very talented mage, far advanced from what you would normally find in a mage of his age, coming into his magic at the tender age of five. He generally favours Primal spells, as appropriate to his background, but is also strong in the Spirit school. He does not do much in the way of healing magic, although his mother was a very talented healer and he still has her recipe book of more conventional medicines based on herbal remedies.
When he shapeshifts he becomes an enormous snow leopard, which he calls the King of the Mountain. He was taught the rudiments of shapeshifting through an encounter with the “Shady Lady” but feels that it is because the lesson was cut short by the arrival of the clan’s hunters that he lacks the knowledge to, as he puts it, turn clothes to fur and back again. Hence he simply disrobes before changing. This has resulted in another of his favourite sayings. “When the naked man smiles prepare to die.” He usually only transforms when out in in the wilds where you would expect to find a snow leopard. In fact he prefers to deal with situations if he can without using magic at all but simply using his wits.
He left the clan at Wintersend 9:45 shortly after the death of his mother as he had nothing else to keep him there, although he still cares deeply about the Dalish and is protective towards them. Since leaving his clan he has alternated between living alone in the forest and a peripatetic lifestyle moving from village to village providing entertainment in taverns and inns. This has allowed him to maintain a modest but steady income in the summer when there is far more traffic around the roads of Ferelden and thus the publicans are more likely to pay him to be there as he draws in custom and helps their patrons work up a thirst. He has developed an identity as a minstrel, the Pied Piper, which people will readily remember if they have witnessed his performance. Dressed in an outfit of black and white halves, he alternately sings, plays a pipe or engages in a lively, exuberant dance, with much intricate footwork. His enthusiasm is infectious and he frequently manages to persuade the audience to join in, mostly on the songs but even on occasion dancing along as well.

BANN OSWYN SIGHARD
Hereditary Bann of Dragon’s Peak.
Age: In his 40th year.
Appearance:
He has a handsome, chiselled face but careworn with pain that has aged him prematurely. He takes trouble with his appearance, having carefully groomed greying fair hair and a neatly trimmed beard. He seems to have taken care not to let his body go to fat even though his muscles seem wasted. When he walks he does so with difficulty, adopting a stooped posture and a crab-like walk in order to get around. Closer examination will reveal that he winces with pain on every step but he steadfastly refuses any form of support. He also has some difficulty in using his right arm, cannot lift it above shoulder height and finds writing difficult beyond making his signature. He uses a scribe much of the time as a result. Pride will not let him admit how much discomfort he is in but those nearest to him are aware of his condition and will discretely assist him in whatever way they can. Oswyn is aware of this and appreciates their efforts.
Background: Oswyn inherited his holding on the death of his father in 9:43. He takes the traditional responsibilities of his role as Bann very seriously. He feels it is to his shame that his infirmity prevents him from taking to the field personally in protection of his freeholders but he ensures that the utmost is done on his behalf by either his own retainers or hired mercenaries as necessary.
He is a faithful Andrastrian; he is that very rare commodity in Thedas, a noble who genuinely adheres to and practices the moral imperatives of the Chant, as opposed to those who keep quoting it but do little else. Whilst he has misgivings about the direction of the new Divine, he will accept her ruling and encourage others to do the same. Jasce has been working on him to accept that Divine Leliana is in fact the first true Divine of the Maker, all the previous ones having been imposters.
Oswyn is from a long and distinguished family of native Ferelden nobility stretching back to the time of Calenhad. The traditional responsibilities of their Bann extend to encompass the northern half of the Brecilian Forest as well as the freeholdings immediately surrounding Dragon’s Peak. The Teynir of Gwaren adjoins to the south.
Oswyn was not at the Battle of Ostagar having been away in the Freemarches finalising his betrothal to the daughter of a leading Marcher family when his father sent forces south at the request of King Cailan. However, one of his childhood friends was among the soldiers and placed under the command of Loghain. When the army arrived back in Denerim and Oswyn met up with his friend, he revealed to Oswyn that they had been ordered to retreat before King Cailan and his detachment were overrun. The following day his friend went missing and whilst making enquiries of his whereabouts, Oswyn accept a drink with a stranger who claimed to have information. The next thing he knew he was incarcerated in Arl Howe’s dungeon. There he was repeatedly racked to discover exactly what he knew and who he had spoken to about it. Whilst in reality Oswyn knew very little and had not had the opportunity to pass the information any further, the torture continued until he was freed by the Hero of Ferelden. As a result, Oswyn was permanently maimed, his legs having been damaged beyond repair by even the most skilled healers, as was his right hand and his right arm weakened.
His new wife showed little sympathy for his damaged body and eventually eloped with his secretary, a much younger man from Antiva.
Bann Sighard's one true passion are his horses and he has been breeding them for some years now. On a horse he is no longer a cripple and one of his chief enjoyments is riding around the forest. He has pretty much covered his entire protectorate in his time so actually knows the forest as well as the Dalish. The majority of his horses are not battle chargers, although he does have these in his stables for his knights. These are specifically bred for fast, comfortable travel between locations.

BASICS Name: Lavinia (La-VIN-ya) de Fontein Age: 37 Gender: Female Class: Mage (former Spirit Healer, Creation and Spirit specialist) Race: Human CHARACTER BUILD-UP General Appearance/Physical Appearance: She is called the Lady Lavinia, Dame de Lumière, Healer of the White Spire. An unusually tall woman with large limbs and hands, her gait is poised yet relaxed, head held high and straight, dark waving hair flowing freely down her back (a fashion highly idiosyncratic in Orlesian circles). The power that curves at the base of her spine is palpable, but it is not the power of destruction, but of life and restoration. Outside the Circle, she is praised and admired for her skill in healing as much as she is feared for her truck with spirits. Yet no matter the complex emotions they may experience in her presence, most cannot help but be drawn in by Lavinia’s quiet magnetism. No matter noble or commoner, her face lights up with a calm and ready smile, and her dark eyes betray an alluring intensity. Her voice is like music, her words sweet and thoughtfully chosen. Over the years, many anonymous love poems have been sent to the lady mage, all left unanswered. Though Lavinia is a popular and beloved figure, with established, even satisfying, relationships among colleagues and courtiers, she has few true confidants, few true friends. If she did, they might find within the quieter moments, when all the masks of the empire fall away, that there is a stillness behind her eyes, not as though she is at peace, but as if something is missing. Personality: Lavinia has none of the arrogance you might expect from an Orlesian courtier, let alone a mage of her stature and power. Her demeanor is serious, but not without a subtle sense of humor. She dresses simply, in flowing robes with little to no adornment, and a simple mask of silver. If she were anyone else, her humility might cause a terrific scandal among the Orlesian nobility. Yet for the Healer of the White Spire, a simple, unassuming grace is chic. With her unique fashionability combined with her powers, she has established her own niche in the Grand Game, being near (but not totally) invulnerable. Few would want such a powerful Spirit Healer out of the Game. Lavinia has an unusual power over a mortal's greatest anxiety -- death -- and she knows it. She takes her skill as her gift and her calling. The sheer enjoyment she gets from study and research is merely a pleasant side effect. Though not especially devout she believes, quite sincerely, that she is called to serve. Lavinia is a work-a-holic. She eats only when she has to, though she does permit sleep for long hours, claiming it helps her work. She does read for pleasure from time to time. While she doesn't sing it as often as she might, she does read the Chant of Light, and she enjoys the works of Brother Genetivi. She read the Tale of the Champion quite willingly, though some of Varric Tethra's other works that circulated court she read only politely. Skills/Abilities/Weapons/Powers: Equipment: Moonlight Staff. A simple birchwood staff fashioned at the top with a blue crystal. A gift from Empress Celene upon her appointment as healing magics advisor. Creation Spells: Heal Regeneration Glyph of Paralysis Spirit Spells: Barrier Dispel Spirit Healer Spells (INACTIVE): Healing Aura Vitality Revival Primal Spells: Winter's Grasp Other skills: Poison-making History:Lavinia was born Lavinia Gainsborough to tailors of modest means in Denerim. Her magic manifested at age six after her mother found her freezing leaves off a tree. Not long after, she was taken to Kinloch Hold. Lavinia showed an exceptional aptitude for the Creation and Spirit schools, particularly in healing magics. After a successful Harrowing at age 19, she was transferred to the White Spire in Val Royeaux, where she could have both the vast libraries of the Circle and the University of Orlais at her disposal. As an Aequitarian, she became a leading authority and scholar on the healing arts. Lavinia loved Circle life. She found the relationships with her colleagues satisfying, and her work rewarding. While healing spells remained incredibly draining and taxing, the techniques Lavinia devised enabled a skilled and practiced mage to cast the spells, on average, 1.5 times more often. Not content to rest on her laurels, she increased her powers in healing and restoration considerably when, at age 24, she allied with a spirit of Compassion, becoming a Spirit Healer, a rare specialty highly prized within the Circle. Lavinia was becoming a considerable force, and few failed to notice. Increasingly, she was called upon to render her services to the ill and dying among the Orlesian nobility. One day she was summoned to Chateau Brouillard, the summer home of Comte Alfonse de Fontein. He’d sustained a leg injury in a jousting accident that resisted routine care. Fears grew that the wound was becoming septic. Lavinia stayed at Chateau Brouillard for three months, leading a team of mages and herbalists alike to oversee the Comte’s care. Under her leadership, the Comte’s leg was saved. They also fell in love. She was 30 years old. Alas, Lavinia was a mage. Though the Comte cared for her, enough to insert her into his will, he would not risk the scandal that would result from an open love affair with a mage. Lavinia was unconcerned with scandal; she begged the Comte to publicly declare her his mistress. He refused. Lavinia would continue to travel to Chateau Brouillard, but only under the guise of his physician. To soothe her disappointment and heartbreak, Lavinia dove into her work. She was determined to increase her influence, as much for her own edification as to change the Comte’s mind. By age 34, she secured a position in the Orlesian court as a healing magics advisor to Empress Celene herself. Aided by the sheer value of her talents, and taking the path paved by Madame de Fer, Lavinia proved a popular figure at court. Lavinia genuinely admired the Empress for her dedication to education and research, and she was immensely proud of her advancement. She looked forward to the good work she might do, bringing clinics into Orlesian alienages and remote villages, improving relations between mages and non-mages. Yet the Comte would not be swayed. He would have no mage mistress. Lavinia rarely visited Chateau Brouillard after her appointment at court. Her days and nights were filled with research, consultations, and inquiries. She spent hours discussing national programs with the Empress. When Lavinia did see the Comte, it was typically at plays or salons, which he attended with his wife. Lavinia’s heart grew dark. Lavinia made overtures to the Comte. She sent him letters perfumed with lavender and bergamot. She had regretted that their relationship had cooled, and she longed to see him again. He accepted, and devising a reason to call upon his physician, he complained of chest pains to his wife. Lavinia returned within a fortnight to oversee his care. Though she regretted that she could not stay as she used to, she would visit as often as her duties allowed. She advised the de Fontein's to stay at the Chateau for a full year, to benefit from its reinvigorating mountain air. Lovesick with renewed ardor, the Comte with the fabricated chest pains agreed. Lavinia visited Chateau Brouillard twice a month for a year. When Lady de Fontein developed a sudden chill and died, the household was deeply saddened, but if even the famous healer of the White Spire could not save her, it must have been the Maker’s will. And when Comte de Fontein died a few months later, it must have been from a broken heart, which no mortal can mend. The Comte and Comtesse had no children, and the healer was so beloved, with so much good she could perform, it was no surprise she was his inheritor. Though a bit of a scandal did erupt when the Lady Lavinia began to style herself Lavinia de Fontein.

JASCE WOLFSBANE Human Ash Warrior
Age: 61
Appearance:
He is a tall, broad man, grizzled with age and though not as nimble as he once was, he is still capable of wielding his axe or broad sword with great effectiveness. The scar running diagonally across his face cutting through just above the top of his nose was caused by the glancing blow he received at Ostagar which knocked him out. His voice is deep, rich and gravelly, with a trace of a Scottish brogue. His armour is well cared for by Jasce personally, as are his weapons. He favours a great sword as his weapon of choice.
Personality
He looks grim and is terrifying when roused to anger but in fact has a good sense of humour. Whilst hot bloodied and easily provoked in his youth, age and experience have mellowed him so now he does not waste his energy or anger on trivial matters
At present he is training a mabari puppy to replace his devoted war dog , Lop-ears, (itself a replacement for Bear) which was killed defending his master from attack on the back streets of Denerim. Jasce claims the new puppy, Scruffy, is a rare long haired mabari and this accounts for its unkempt appearance. Oswyn suspects that Jasce won't admit that the puppy doesn't like being groomed. Both are true.
Background
Though trained as an Ash Warrior in his youth he is now devoted to the service of Bann Sighard, originally the elder and now his son, Oswyn. He greatly admires and respects Oswyn for his courage and determination in the face of great physical pain not to mention the mental anguish that he endured both during his torture and subsequently.
As befits an Ash Warrior he is devoted to the Maker and Andraste but does not recognise the Chantry or their Chant of Light, although some parts he will acknowledge as genuine teaching from Andraste or her disciples. Prior the Battle of Ostagar he was prepared to agree to disagree on such matters and he has never objected to following the morality of the Chant. Since what he sees as his miraculous survival, he has taken a more active role in criticising the Chantry, particularly undermining it in his home village of Dragon's Peak. However, he was highly delighted to hear of Leliana being made Divine and says that so long as she is in charge of the Chantry then he will acknowledge it as the instrument of the Maker. He thoroughly approves of all the changes she has made.
He is also generally respectful of all races provided they are people of honour, unlike the majority of Ash Warriors who give dwarves the highest respect and are dismissive of elves. This has partly been brought about by being confronted by Burren, who is about as opposite to the dwarven myth of the strong, muscled, "masculine" fighter as it is possible to get. This led him to question the validity of judging individuals solely on the basis of their race.
Jasce was at the Battle of Ostagar with his faithful mabari Bear and stood with the other Ash Warriors alongside King Cailan. He was knocked out before the betrayal and was the only Ash Warrior to survive (so far as he is aware) along with Bear. Sometimes, when in his cups, he will say he wished he died along with the rest. However, the story of how Bear and Jasce made it back to Dragon's Peak is now legendary in the village. Most will tell you, though, if you want to hear more you should ask Jasce as he tells it better.
Scruffy the "long-haired" Mabari

Name: Rhian is what she goes by now. Description: A human woman in her early twenties, of average height and an athletic build. Background: As a child she was taken in by a person who saw the potential in the poor and uncared for waifs of the slums-- the potential to be used. She was trained up to spy, to lie and to steal, and to manipulate and take advantage of. The more adapt she became the further she was educated. For years she followed her mentor with blind loyalty. Gratitude towards him for rescuing her, for giving her a sense of purpose and belonging, kept her from realizing that she was nothing but a pawn to be moved and then cast aside. The realization that she could make her own decisions, and be more than just a tool for someone to use, came to her after spending more than a decade under her master’s influence. She has since fled his grasp, but the paranoia that she’s still playing into his hand and the guilt for those she left behind still follow her. Skills and talents: Hidden behind whatever role she has assumed lies a calculating rogue. She can adopt a wide variety of accents and mannerisms to play the part she needs to, but a subtle observer can see the evaluating look in her eyes when her mask slips. She retains information with ease and is adapt at an assortment of skills. Herbalism is a passion she has had little time to divulge in and forgery is child’s play to her. Lockpicking, pickpocketing, and going unnoticed are abilities she has had even before she could read, while any martial skills were hard fought for. Though she can wield a blade and has a fondness for the crossbow, she tries to avoid fighting-- in fair fights, at least. Perspectives: Survival by any means-- morality is a luxury of prosperity. You may call someone a coward, but better alive and a coward than dead and brave. There is no such thing as cheating-- there are only winners or losers. Watch, learn, and listen; knowing things will keep you in control. Things you don’t understand are dangerous and things you can’t understand are worse. Magic… ugh. Mages have the same fleshy soft spots as everyone else. Arrogance is a great weakness to exploit. Anything that uses more than four legs to move around is an abomination of the Maker. If you convince yourself you’re not afraid you’ll convince everyone. A strong man can use his blade to stop a fight, a cautious man his bow and arrow, but the clever man need never draw his weapon when he has his words.
*Spoiler'd because I don't know how large it's going to be. And yes, I just created a doll because I have no artistic ability of my own, but I also wasn't satisfied with the images I was going through on the internet

i.imgur.com/QH1Hdwn.jpg Description: The first word that outsiders gave to describe her was "terrifying". Well, to be more accurate, it was an assortment of curses followed by a wet gurgle when they thought they had the advantage. Standing 6"4, with golden eyes and black sclera, Alecto has an unusually durable body with unnerving wiry strength for a Qunari. Her head is shaven, save for a mohawk of dark hair tied back with her horns smaller than normal. Of all the scars that adorn her body, it is the long one that stretches upwards across her lip that catches the attention for it gives her the appearance of a sneer. When she speaks, it is with purpose. When she moves, it is without hesitation. Weapons/Skills/Equipment: Alecto favors the longsword, though she is not averse to using anything else at her disposal. If she needed a bludgeon a hammer would do. If she needed precision, a spear would serve. If she needed subtlety, a few words were all that were needed. It was not uncommon for her to pick up smaller races by the head and crush their skull with her bare fingers. If she needs to engage someone at long distance, they had best be prepared for her, for they will not get another chance. Her fighting style would rival the most stubborn of Champions for she can endure what is necessary and deal what is promised. With her blossom vitaar, it gives her the reputation of being akin to a gurn. Her gear is simple but high quality, able to withstand as much as her. No items of sentiment will be found on her, nor anything that has no practical value to her. While she can ride a mount, her skill is a functional one, not the type to be honed beyond necessity so more adept riders would be able to outmaneuver her on horseback. History: She had always been one with questions as a child. The Tamassrans noted this and kept watch, marking her for the Ben-hassrath when the questions would not be sated with their wisdom. That relentless way she'd seek out answers promised much in the way as a re-educator, and so she was groomed for the role. For a while, she was content. She served the Qun and those who would not were made to see the wisdom of it. Day in, day out, she sat there with patience, rooting out the disharmony in other's minds and shaping it to the will of their society. Such would her days continue until one brought unwelcome doubt into her thoughts for the one who disturbed her satisfaction with her role was when her Tamassran came under her guidance. This was not the way of the Qun. Why? Why would one who raised her fall to weakness and madness? Her teacher, her mother and mentor had fallen in love and expressed it with another. This could not be. Time passed and the madness would not leave her no matter how dearly Alecto strived to bring her back to the fold. In the end, she perished and so did the young Qunari's peace of mind. She was weak, she was not fit to serve the Qun, Alecto told herself. That is the way. All must strive for the good of the society, not for selfish pleasures. So why? Why would she not bend on this? The questions turned on her, ravaging her usual efficiency and insight, to the point others took notice and directed her elsewhere. I am not fit to serve the Qun. But what to do? She was already keen to the techniques and tricks of her fellow re-educators. Their methods would not serve for her. She could not find the answers here, in Par Vollen. So they sent her away, to seek the answers until she regained herself again. So here she stands, an outsider, wandering as a mercenary until she finds what would quell the restlessness in her spirit. Name: Burren Age: 25 (Born: 9:20 Exiled: 9:37) Gender: Male Race: Noble Caste Dwarf (Exile - Stripped of family name and banished from Orzammar) Class: Non Combatant - Secretary to Bann Sighard
Appearance
He takes great care of his appearance with neatly trimmed hair and beard, carefully groomed and braided. He prefers fine clothes, in particular silk shirts, fur wraps and leather trousers. He is of medium build and does not have highly developed muscles. His voice is deep and masculine but he is softly spoken even when angry.
Personality
He is a gentle soul. In his own words he is "a lover not a fighter". He is extremely put out when his normal schedule is interrupted but other than that he is generally easy to get along with. However, Scruffy drives Burren crazy for obvious reasons. The puppy’s antics are the closest Burren has come to actually going berserk.
History
Burren was introduced to Bann Sighard by Jasce who in turn had been contacted by Burren's mother on his banishment, asking if Jasce would look after him. Burren was definitely not what Jasce was expecting to find when he met up with him at the Gnawed Noble Tavern in Denerim. He offered him the role of secretary in the household of Bann Sighard on Oswyn's behalf. Jasce and Burren are now good friends.
Burren is not a “traditional” dwarf and actually gets great satisfaction from poking fun at some of the more absurd dwarven traditional beliefs. He has never swung an axe in anger, though he did drop one on his foot once, and he dislikes dwarven ale. Burren bathes every day! In fact he insists upon it and is extremely put out when his normal bath time is interrupted. Burren prefers the finer things in life, good food, roaring log fires and soft feather beds. He does like alcoholic beverages but of the spirit based variety. He is very fond of brandy which means that being so close to the producers of the best brandy in Thedas, Brandyholme in the Brecilian Forest, suits him very well, particularly as Bann Sighard enjoys a discount on all purchases, which Burren naturally extends to himself. This is about as far as he has got with the traditional dwarven pastime of corruption in some form.
Burren used to work in the Shaperate and was exiled to the surface as the result of some form of “indiscretion” behind the storage shelves. This was actually a matter of greater shame than the fact that he was exiled and his family have told him that under no circumstances should he reveal the precise nature of his crime to outsiders. Jasce, however is in the know, but will not be drawn on the subject. He will explain to anyone who enquires, that Burren’s chief shame was not getting exiled for the more traditional reasons of shafting one’s relatives, framing one’s relatives or fixing the provings. The fact that Burren was caught doing a different form of shafting is just not traditional and despite what people think King Bhelen is only a progressive when it comes to his own agenda. Burren did not fit with that, so Burren had to go.
Jasce will readily admit that it is entirely down to Burren that he has become more open minded than the majority of Ash Warriors. Traditionally, Ash Warriors determine the level of respect they will give you by your race. Dwarves are shown the highest respect owing to the fact that their founder Luthias Dwarfson (the name gives you the clue as to parentage) learned to harness the battle rage of the dwarves and of course traditionally dwarves are great warriors of broad physique and strong for their size. At the other end of the scale, elves are granted little respect because they a slender, weak in relation to dwarves (or so the misconception goes) and have not been known to go berserk. Burren turns this stereotype on its head. Whilst he has a medium build, he does not have big muscles and only gets mildly angry, unless his bath time is interrupted. Burren confesses that he was actually rather relieved to have been banished as he was never happy in Orzammar. His only friend there was Dagna, who whilst older than him, was more sympathetic than most considering she was also trying to escape the role she was traditionally expected to follow. Burren was heartbroken when Dagna left for the surface but also glad for her that she was finally able to follow her heart's desire. He says that whilst the Hero of Ferelden might be known for defeating the Blight, they will always be a Hero to him for arranging for Dagna to study at Kinloch Hold. They kept in touch by letter and he followed her progress as she achieved success in her chosen field. He raised a glass of brandy to her when she obtained the post of Arcanist to the Inquisition.
Ellas and Burren have a close platonic friendship.

She may be familiar, but she's mine. Slight dramatic words in the spoiler. My character that I made that has lived on RDF is moving here for future use. She only participated in one thread and it's up in the air whether I'll finish the thread or just let her die to close loose narrative threads.. Nothing she did over there is canon to her character (especially her death. ha) . I've gone out of my way to edit the format of my Character description to not be "stealing" RDAFs format.
Picture: Mini Bio: Valen Taresh is a female dwarf, age 30. She's a basic dual wielding rogue who dabbles in grenades. 4'2, Dark skin, a few scars on her face from one of her shrapnel traps going hay wire. Dark eyeliner, from a vainer period in her life, is tattooed on around her green eyes. The dark green casteless tattoo is the only other marking on her face. A badge of freedom, from her point of view. Too busy to bother with a proper hair cut, she just hacks off what dark brown hair gets in her way, leaving her hair in ragged chunks around her forehead. Occasionally, she'll sit still long enough for her Tranquil Assistant, Audric, to give the back of her head a proper trim as she peers over her findings, but that's as far as it goes. Boyish, she is flat chested, body taut and tone from walking and scaling the occasional cliff face as she hones in on a perspective prize. Prefers clothing to be form fitting, as it prevents tangling and tugging from sharp rocks and attempts at wild life trying to hook onto her. She prefers to avoid physical altercations. She flexible, Easy Going, Open, Curious. Super focused on her interests that cause her to ignore other things. like food. And the people around her. She is fit, healthy, and harbors no secret angsty pains. That she knows of. She is not romantically available. What she's good at:Traps stealth Lockpicking Cryptography (maps) Tevene, Dwarven, Common Engineering Evaluation of valuables Specifically bad at:Limited dual wielding dagger skills. No bow skills. Her history up to this point: Born the sixth child of eight in Kirkwall. Her mother joked often that she wanted to have given birth to her own syndicate of the Carta- and she ended up not too far off from that goal. The family has long since dropped any claims to their prior Orzamaar lineage. Valen has no loyalty towards the Dwarven Empire and is only close to one of her seven siblings. She's not a disappointment to her mother, per se, but she is the only one of the eight children to have ignored the ease of taking up the family trade. She resisted the most morally ambiguous tasks and outright refused the violent ones. Ironically, she excelled at the stealth necessary for thievery and wasn't too bad at striking a sharp deal on the black market. At 19, she started dropping hints that the Carta life was not a vocation she would have chosen to her family. By 20, she struck out on her own to seek her future, different from that of near all dwarves she'd met during her short life. She has a tendency to focus on her exploration and discovery at the expense of all else; nutrition, conversation, and relationships, working or otherwise, are at the bottom of her priority list when the hunt of loot is before her. Discovery is what she lives for, not riches or renown. So, after finding and investigating the "new shiney" she sells the object or information to those she feels would pay the highest price. Options being: releasing it to her siblings for Black Market sale or making a direct sell to the Chantry or the few Dalish clans that trade with outsiders. All this just pays for more exploring and further discovery. She's had co explorers in her company before, but they either grow weary of the endless chase she thrives on... or weary of the lack of "company" that her focus creates. Audric has been her longest companion in her decade of exploration, and has been with her four years. She found him east of the Frostbacks within the territory of Fereldan. He was once a Tranquil in the Fereldan Circle at Kinloch Hold, but since the Mage Templar war was in full swing, he had no where else to go. After an awkward exchange of information and goals, he calmly asked if he could accompany her. Due to her behavior, or lack thereof, regarding people, the pairing has been the best thing for her. And, she hopes, it has been good for him as well; hard to tell with someone who has been made Tranquil. Easily amused she enjoys a drink at a Tavern when she's in town but it is rare that she drinks to excess. She's not a private person but mostly defaults to listening. But you can get her talking; if it's about language, tips for distracting carnivorous spiders, or hidden ruins. Due to her frequent exposure to all forms of religion in the ruins that she explores, she is firmly agnostic and has never stepped into a Chantry for anything other than to make contact for a sale. She judges no one for their chosen form of religion. Family and Friends she knows in the world of Dragon Age:-Siblings in age order: Ossen, Yarvak, Nadira, Farveed, Garik, Joffen, Rosien. We all call mother Naners. -Varric's cousin, Thorold, but she has never personally met the story teller herself. -Sister Justine, the curator for the Denerim Chantry. -Knows the people in charge of various shops in Kirkwall and Denerim. My goal for the character is to eventually have her faced with the opportunity of having Audric presented for the Tranquil Cure. But not anytime soon. In the meantime, discussions about Tranquil people's ability to consent and how their emotions work are things I'm interested in.

Issala Qunari Rogue Tal-Vashoth (in the sense of escaped Qunari rather than active rebel) Issala (whose title under the Qun was Ashaad, and whose "name" was a string of numbers indicative of scholar and scout blood) is a smaller and thinner Qunari man (though still abnormally large by human standards.) His horns are far smaller and thinner than is usual, and his face is far softer than is usual for any Qunari, especially a man. He was bred from a particularly bright scout and a scholar. He was raised in the Qunari fashion, and was considered to either become a scout (since he showed some skill at hiding during games) or a scholar (since he was an avid reader and learner.) He preferred to become a scholar, but the role is considered female under the Qun and he didn't want to transition. He chafed under having to choose scouting over scholarship. He wasn't entirely happy scouting, and he certainly wasn't happy to stop learning. That was part of why he fought tooth and nail to be taught basic herbalism, though the fact that knowing how to use elfroot might save his or a comrade's life was the argument he made to the scholars. In the end the scholars and the higher-ranking priests relented, teaching him basic field medicine with elfroot and warning him not to seek more. He left the Qun after nearly losing his life on a scouting run. It wasn't the near death experience; he'd had one before and it hadn't made his faith waver any more than his frustration with the priesthood was already doing. (Though he had used it to argue to his superiors that he should know how to use elfroot.) This time, however, there was more to it than merely almost dying. Ashaad ran into a magister out for a sojourn in the countryside. The magister's bodyguard saw him trying to sneak away, and warned the magister before pursuing Ashaad. Ashaad managed to kill the bodyguard, and draw the pursuing magister into a small grove of trees, where he killed him. The fight destroyed his soul-weapon, though; the magister caught it on his staff and it turned to dust. He wound up punching the magister, hitting him with the hilt of his ruined weapon, and finishing him with a dagger he'd taken from the magister's own belt. He then went back for anything useful, and found that sure enough, the slaves the magister had brought with him had just tossed everything. He found a decent meal, some coin, and a few books. Ashaad didn't understand any of the books, since he's only literate in Qunlat. He could tell two were about herbalism, and that one of those two was mostly concerned with healing herbs, since they had pictures of herbs and he knows enough about healing herbs to recognize some of them. The diagrams on anatomy suggest that one other is either a medical book (magical or mundane; he can't tell) or a treatise on blood magic. Ashaad knew his duty was to return the books to the Qun, but he wasn't sure he wanted to go back. For one thing he wasn't sure he'd be accepted back without his soul-weapon. For another, he knew he'd have to give the books to the scholars. He'd nearly died getting these books. He wouldn't even get to know what was in them. Two of them were on a subject he was interested in. He'd just had enough of being told what was and wasn't his sphere. Ashaad went towards a village near the edge of Qunari territory that he knew he could buy passage to disputed territory from using the magister's coin. From there he chartered passage on a ship to Ferelden. The owners were Tevinters by blood, so they didn't ask questions; they knew why a lone qunari was going in an entirely un-Qun-related direction and weren't inclined to say he shouldn't. Issala (who took his new name from the state his soul wound up in during that last fight) still has those books. He seeks to get them translated, but isn't sure where to ask. He's not willing to go to the Tevinters for it, since he's not willing to risk someone recognizing them as stolen, and despite his limited education on non-Qunari peoples even he knows the one on anatomy will probably see a fire in short order if he shows it to a White Chantry brother. So he needs someone well-educated enough to know Tevene, open-minded enough not to care that one of his books was probably meant for a blood mage, and disinclined to go to the Tevinter authorities. This might take a while. Equipment: Worn Qunari-issue light mail Two shortswords made by tevinter smiths based on reverse-engineered qunari methods Short Tevinter dagger Healing potions Healing poultices Worn sleeping bag A bit of copper One probably-Tevene book on elfroot One probably-King's Tongue book on herbalism (using herbs Issala doesn't recognize) One probably-Tevene book on anatomy (probably for the benefit of blood mages) One probably-King's Tongue book without any pictures to hint on what it is Skills: Dual-Weapon Sweep Intimate Friends Kick (Or "Below the Belt" if you weren't taught by the Qunari) Dirty Fighting Stealth Foraging Languages: Full fluency and literacy in Qunlat Fluent in spoken Tevene Fluent in spoken King's Tongue My goals for the character are the obvious one (get those books translated) and to have him learn more herbalism. (And maybe some other crafting skills.)

GERRY Age: Unknown - Early twenties Gender: Transgender Male Race: City Elf Class: Non-combatant - Raven Handler Even Jasce isn’t sure of Gerry’s age or origins. He found him in the Denerim slums and whilst he won’t be drawn on the subject, it would seem that he was being abused when Jasce rescued him and brought him back to Dragon’s Peak. For six months he appeared mute but Jasce put him in charge of the ravens used for sending messages and gradually he recovered from his previous ordeal. When he finally recovered his voice it was a revelation. Not only was his ordinary manner of speaking soft and extremely melodic but he had a wonderful gift of singing. This brought him to the attention of the local Reverend Mother who persisted in calling Gerry a girl and saying that the Maker doesn’t make mistakes. In retaliation Jasce wrote this rhyme for Gerry to recite. I’m Gerry and I’m in a disguise. I’m a man but if you think I’m a woman It’s because it’s a really good disguise You see the Maker made it As part of his inexorable plan If you think that’s hard on Gerry, That’s right, be kind if you can. But please don’t make a mistake I’m Gerry and I’m definitely a man. He seems to have a way with all birds and can often be found surrounded by flocks of them, singing to them and with them.

"The people do not care for your petty squabbles! They just want to live their lives and I’m here to make sure they’ll live it in peace!"Appearance/PersonalityA masked man in his mid-thirties standing about 5'11 with an athletic build, The Antivan Fox wears an all-black attire with a flat top hat with a flowing cape. His mask only covers the top half of Fox's face with the holes revealing his brown eyes. The Antivan Fox also wears an antivan belt which contains all of his weaponry complete with a necklace with a ruby in the middle of it. From multiple accounts, The Fox doesn’t seem to take life too seriously, always greeting his opponents with a smile even when they are about to kill him, flirting shamelessly with women and can come across as narcissistic. Nonetheless, The Braavosi Fox fights for the innocent and will do anything for them. Abilities/Skills“I made your face prettier! You’re welcome!”Claiming to be a duelist, The Antivan Fox employs a fast pace, cut and thrust style of swordsmanship. Equipped with a Rapier, The Fox focuses on fluidity and grace combined with pragmatism. He displays expert level footwork and is excellent in taking on multiple opponents, relying on spins, thrusts and circular slashes. The Fox's defense is strong, craftily evading lunging opponents and exploiting their weak points. He is excellent at redirecting his opponent's blade and either injure or disarm them. The Fox loves to use the environment to his advantage, using a barrel or a piece of rock to gain momentum against his opponent or to escape. The Fox fights with a smile on his face and is always taunting his opponents hoping to catch them off guard. Despite this, The Antivan Fox is vulnerable to opponents who rely on strength oriented attacks he lacks the physical strength to counter or redirect them; As much as loves to taunt The Fox can be easily angered reverting from his graceful technique to something of a caveman wielding a club. Equipment: Rapier, Grenades, Whip (used only for escaping.), throwing knives, A Jar of Bees Duelist: Engarde Vendetta(Blood Feud) Sure Strikes Throw the Gauntlet (Cutting Barbs) Assassin: Hidden Blades (Overkill) I was never here Gaps in the Armor Knockout Bomb (Comatose) Cloak of Shadows “Stab first, ask questions later. My raison detre!” HistoryChildren and freed slaves alike gather to hear the tale of The Antivan Fox. A dashing masked man who fights for the common people by getting rid of the corrupt nobles and stealing their wealth and giving it to the poor. He also frees slaves and disrupts auctions. Many officials try to catch him but he always escapes at the last minute. The Fox’s origins are unknown. Some say he was a former slave of Tevinter who broke his chains and escaped as a boy. Vowing to come back to free his people. Others say that he was a noble himself who was sickened of the abuse of power by his friends. Refusing to indulge in it and deciding that he’ll put an end to their corruption. There are many more versions of his backstory ranging from the death of his lover by a noble to the belief that the Maker spoke to him and said that he was destined to become The Fox. What version is told depends on who you ask. The Antivan Fox suddenly appeared in towns around 9:30, breaking slaves chains, killing or stopping nobles and sprinkle villages with coin and valuables. His exploits won him the hearts and minds of the people, who help him whenever he appears. His pursuit of justice had him travel around the world where he became infamous among the nobility, where he has a HUGE price on his head.

Stage name: Arria Verisimo Birth name: Sabina Barbus Mini Bio and History: Born 9:08 Dragon to two music loving merchants with the given name of Sabina Barbus. Her parents were successful in spite of being elves, so they were well off (for elves.). Her older brother, Gaius Barbus was a soldier. He fought alongside as well as serviced the elephants. His income, combined with her parents, paid for her training at a formal music school from age 10. She started gaining attention at 16 when she began singing in local small concerts. She was drawing upon a wide variety of fans, both humans and not. Although her main focus was opera, her popularity dragged her into musicals, and by association, acting. She took on the stage name, Arria Verisimo. By 18, she was an Operatic actress of great popularity in Minranthous, and was capable of singing in three languages. She was fluent in Tevene and Common at this time. Her family was very proud. Due to various patrons, and her various singing and acting contracts, she’d finally started earning for herself to pay for her own continued training. She had a very bright future. When her elven blood was brought up, her advocates would argue her voice transcended racial and social distinctions as “base as that.” Shortly before her 19th birthday, she met a married Soporati Military General by the name of Marcus Furius Camillus Scribonianus. The General, Marcus Even as every day she grew brighter, the gossip mills churned at what appeared to be a passionate and loving relationship between the two. And while her voice transcended racial distinctions conveniently so she would be allowed to entertain the highest tiers of her fans, this did not allow an open and blatant relationship between a General and a free elf. Even more quickly than her rise to stardom, she fell from the spotlight. She had sold herself into slavery to the General and her voice was for his household only. What had been scandalous, a relationship between a titled human and a free elf, was common place between a human and a slave. Her family never spoke to her again. Tevinter Nobility forgot her soon after, although the elves, both free and enslaved, would mention her with bitter nostalgia; for she had been “theirs.” To Asariel she was sent, in 9:27 Dragon, where she kept her own home. Marcus frequently visited. Their son was born within a year and she raised him there. She named him Markham. When he was eight, in 9:35 Dragon, he was sent to a boarding school in Orlais with false papers making him eligible for anything he could want even if it was be a Chevelier. Her son gone, Arria returned to Minrathous to live in a two floor home on the General’s lands, half a mile from the main house. This is when she encountered General Marcus’ other son, Lucius Arruntius Camillus Scribonianus. At this point in time, Lucius had been a mage for six years, dragging his family from the Soporati class into the Laetan class. He hadn’t been a pleasant boy, and time with other Laetan mages and magisters had not improved him. He had an immediate lustful crush on Arria the moment she arrived, but he never acted on it. Just constantly undressed her with his eyes. That was uncomfortable, but as she rarely visited the main house, it didn’t pose a frequent enough problem for her to ever mention it to Marcus. She was 27. With more time together, Marcus took to teaching her various martial skills. They often sparred together as exercise and foreplay. He also taught her the language of the Qunari. “To know your enemy’s language is one step closer to knowing them. And if you know your enemy, then victory is soon to follow.” Being in a larger city, Arria reconnected to some old contacts as she resumed formal musical and dancing training. She made friends, had servants of her own, and was frequently at Marcus’ side when he was home from the Front at various musical events. Arria and Marcus only occasionally chanced a letter to their hidden son, Markham, once a year, being careful not to indicate that Marcus was anything but a patron of a gifted noble child who's parents had perished. After the events at the Council in Orlais, the Qunari renewed their efforts to overcome Tevinter. General Marcus was called to the front once more. This is where our story begins. As of 9:45 Dragon, Aria is 37 and still looks to be in her 20s. Skills: Acting Singing Dancing Duel wielding swords Fluent in 3 languages (Qunlat, Tevene, trade), sings in 4 languages (Tevene, trade, antivan, elven) (The Qunari do not sing, although one could try to piece together a song, she has occasionally considered.) tagging gervaise21 and riverdaleswhiteflash as this is the character I'm using for the Tourney Thread

 | William Hawthorne of South Reach
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Faction/role: House Hawthorne military commander under Arl Robert Hawthorne
bsn.boards.net/post/920348
|
William is the third born son of Arl of South Reach. As such, his never was the life of ruling. Born in 9:22 Dragon, he lived a relatively uneventful childhood, short of the Fifth Blight. By then, his Father was already Knighted by King Cailan, and as the sons of a Knight, all three of the brothers - Robert, Ethan and William himself - were expected to be knighted themselves by the family. The developments of the Fifth Blight however put a stop to those expectations, as Knights Aaron and Thomas of House Hawthorne have been called upon to aid the Warden's armies. Knight Thomas, William's father, distinguished himself enough to be granted a higher title by King Alistair upon his ascension to the throne. As South Reach lost it's Arl during the Blight, luck had befallen House Hawthorne and they came to rule the Arling. The events of the Blight caused William to harbor deep respect for the Grey Wardens, who even with so few of them managed to rally Ferelden. As soon as he turned 19, he was given a choice, having no hereditary titles, to join a warrior order of his choosing. He didn't spare much thought to becoming a Templar, rather choosing to become a Warden himself. However, due to events unknown to him at the time, no Wardens could be found across Ferelden until the family found a solitary Warden errant going by the name of Blackwall, who recommended William travel to the Anderfels and undergo the Joining ritual at Weisshaupt. By 9:41 Dragon, everything was ready for his departure when the Conclave to end the Mage-Templar war was called. Together with his father Thomas and his two brothers Robert and Ethan, he travelled to the Frostbacks, where he said his goodbyes and split paths with his family for what he thought would be forever. In a turn of fate, however, the Conclave erupts shortly after and he returns to help his family. While Father is badly injured and sent back to South Reach, his brothers stand strong for several days until the Prisoner wakes up. While closing the Breach at the Temple, Ethan is killed by the Pride Demon, leaving Robert and William as the two surviving sons of House Hawthorne. While Robert returns to South Reach to rule the lands, William remains with what would become the Inquisition as an officer, groomed for battlefield leadership by Commander Cullen. Accounts state that he was seen riding with the Commander at the vanguard of the forces penetrating the Arbor Wilds. Now, he has returned from the Inquisition's service and as the more battlefield-wise of the two brothers, leads the family's armies from his Knighted position. House Hawthorne takes their heroism during the Blight very seriously, choosing "Stand Vigilant!" as their House words, to which their bannermen from lower-standing Houses may reply with "Stand as One!"
William is a man strong in both character and physical aspects. He favors to fight with nothing but his Silverite longsword, Griffon, wearing armor that many would consider medium that consists of a gambeson and a Silverite chest plate. He excels at battlefield leadership, but lacks cunning in the great halls where nobles bicker, leaving these parts on his much more shrewd brother. He puts protecting his men above all else, and while he attempts to protect the innocent people, he knows this is not always possible. Any man under his command who is proven to hurt an innocent intentionally may face punishment, though he tends to be very forgiving to those he considers his brothers in arms. In addition, he may ignore people from outside his lands on the matter.
Skills and equipment (Going by Lore and Origins): Second Wind - years of combat have granted William the ability to summon the last of his reserves to continue the fight in adrenaline-induced state of near-hypnosis Peon's Plight - William's combat training far exceeds the common man's abilities with a sword. He can overwhelm them for a swift kill. Grievous Insult - William stands for protecting his men and family first and foremost, meaning he is more than willing to taunt using the worst insults that come to mind Massacre - Should common men overwhelm William, he may use this to his advantage as unlike them, he may slash and stab in any direction. War Cry - Many have learned to fear House Hawthrone's prowess in battle. With a war cry, William enters the battlefield, lowering the enemy morale. Rally - William is a leader, allowing him to rally his men, allowing the entire force to benefit from the safety of the pack Motivate - The presence of their leader motivates men to wreak greater havoc among the enemy, as their Lord fights with them and for them. Dueling - Years of combat training and experience on the battlefield benefit William with the knowledge of fighting one on one, allowing him to defend effectively. Keen Defense - He has learned over the years that the best defence againist a blow is to simply not be there. William is that much more likely to parry any incoming blows. Evasion - Just like he can parry, he can dodge and simply never be where the enemy strikes. Whenever his armor or sword doesn't cover the blow, William simply dodges. Griffon - Silverite Longsword Being made of Silverite, it is very sturdy to the point that it may cut poorly-smithed weapons in half (but since I know the reality of it, it has to be some pretty crappy iron or wood). The material also grants it an exceptional effectiveness againist Darkspawn, making it the ideal weapon for the Warden-Recruit William never became.
Well. That's about it, really. I'm not minmaxing kit because I love to write according to the lore, and not to in-game stats. Hence why I actually worded the reason for every single skill he uses. Ha. And yes, that table is precisely what I used for Sar'Neda, just changed everything in it. Subject to change if I realize I goofed up somewhere, but that's pretty unlikely.

 | Garric Ivorn Race: Dwarf Gender male Faction/role: Envoy of the Dwarven embassy in Minrathous Character App
|
Appearance: Garric is 5'0 in height, blue eyes and light, reddish brown hair. he has a full beard and a long moustache that he often braids to keep it away from his mouth. He wears functional heavy chain armour, emblazoned with the symbol of the Tevinter Dwarven Ambassadoria. he carries a large two handed axe. Personality: As an up and coming envoy of the Ambassadoria, he does his best to be civil to Tevinter dignitaries. That said, he can be impatient and abrupt with those he doesn't like, dwarven or human. Skills: Despite being of the Smith caste, he has some fighting ability, that he has honed during ears of Proving competition. Two handed warrior with the champion spec. History: Background on Dwarven Ambassadoria (Written by phoray ) Deep beneath Minrathous sits one of three Tevinter dwarven embassies. Once connected to the two major cities of Kal Sharok and Orzammar by the Deep Roads, the roads are now impassable due to darkspawn. They have been forced to rely on the surface system for the delivery of messages. Tevinter has enjoyed a long and fruitful alliance with the dwarven empire lasting more than two millennia.
The lyrium trade is the primary reason for their close alliance as the magic-centric Imperium is mainly dependent on the mining network under control of Orzamaar kings for their heavy lyrium use. Managing the trade between the two parties is the Ambassadoria; a dwarven body of representatives elected by the Heads of Dwarven Noble Houses from among themselves.
Leading this group of representatives, or ambassadors, is the Minister. It is the Minister’s job to keep King Bhelen in the governing loop even as help guide the day to day of the Embassy. A Steward acts as his second. Regarding the rest, this particular Embassy also holds a Shaperate and a Proving Grounds. All of it grand enough to rival that of Orzammar, especially due to it’s better economy. The other similarity it shares with Orzamaar is the political infighting.
There are several noble houses in the Ambassadoria, the heads of which are elected into the Ambassadoria governing body as ambassadors. Seven ambassadors sit at any one time. Together they vote in a Minister, and various other staffing positions, stewards, envoys and so on.
The current Minister is Gorel Dace. A man who takes his responsabilities to the King in Orzammar very seriously. He juggles the wants of the various noble houses along with the requests or demands of the Tevinter magisters, regarding the lyrium trade.
The current political climate includes a loyalist faction that encourages strong ties with Orzammar, a faction that desires closer ties with Tevinter, and an upstart separatist faction that demands the immediate separation of the Ambassadoria from Orzammar rule, arguing that they have very little contact with the Orzammar nobility and therefore should be independant. The separatist faction has been gaining support amongst the lower castes hoping to improve their lot in a new independent kingdom below Minrathous.
Gorel Dace's Second is a steward by the name of Huren Ivorn, head of the chief smithing family. Huren is Garrics father, and was recently assigned the favoured position, as the Ivorn smithing family's fortunes have risen in the past year.
Garric was born into the Smithing caste 28 years ago. His mother, Jeka, was a topside merchant caste member, officially considered casteless. She met and married Huren, giving birth to twins, them disappearing topside, leaving the children with Huren. Garric and his twin sister Kelara grew up raised by their aunt, but recognized as Smithing caste officially. Garric himself had little interest in the family business, preferring to learn to fight. He and his twin spent time in their youths sparring, learning different fighting styles from younger Warrior caste friends. One such friend, Wirel Voren, became close friends with Garric and rather smitten with Kelara. Kelara, however, showed no interest. Instead she became involved with the Silent Sisters. She joined the group officially two years prior to present. She has since taught Garric to use their sign language to communicate with her. Garric and Wirel remained close friends, despite Wirel's disappointment. They were often seen together, Wirel acting as an unofficial 'second' to Garric once his family's fortunes took off. Garric himself had a brief and tumultuous marriage that ended with his wife, Sirun, leaving him for the son of a rival smithing family, Maigek Ghanek. At the time, the Ghanek's had the ear of the Minister, and were granted great favours in the Ambassadoria. About a year ago, Garric accompanied his family's most proficient smiths to recover items from a lost Thaig. While there they made a startling discovery. A method of making golems that required no sacrifices. Dreams of presenting Orzammar with a safe and strong supply of golems propelled the Ivorn family's status up above the Ghanek family, much to their dismay and anger. Garrics father was made Second to the minister, replacing Maigek's father.
