Hi, As you may already know: I'm Dutch. So, I follow Dutch game journalists and magazines. One of the journalists working for the popular Dutch "Power Unlimited" game magazine got to play the game at Bioware for 3 hours or so. This is his opinion as a huge fanboy of the Mass Effect and Dragon Age series: I translated the important bits, you can read it for yourself if you want to, but you have to use a translator if you're not Dutch. www.pu.nl/artikelen/preview/mass-effect-andromeda-preview/Also, he acknowledges that if you want to have a good impression on a Bioware game, you have to put a lot more hours in it than the amount of hours that he put in. - The first few hours of the game didn't blow him away. - Performance capture hasn't improved since DA:I. "They may have more detailed faces, but the face animations are really the same as the ones in Mass Effect 2. Also, the protagonists carry most of the first hour of the game a breathing mask under their helmets, so you do not even see their faces! A small number of dramatic moments come so much less about and it just feels a bit impersonal. Bioware should be the pioneer in these things, shouldn't they? Emotion is their expertise! - After playing the beginning of the game, he got to play a bit further in the game, where he was able to walk on the tempest and talk to everybody. This was amazing according to him and he was sad that after an hour walking on the ship he had to go on a mission. -Gameplay is less tactical: now, it really is an action-RPG.

Sweet Jesus, I thought dutchsghost somehow got to play the game. If it were a real Dutch review, it would have read along the lines of "The Witcher 3 is the greatest game ever" and "BioWare is terrible and should learn after CDPR." Until otherwise, they are all imposters.

Man, Power Unlimited is a relic. I find his comparisons to HZD somewhat worrying though. Dutch chauvinism has clouded quite a couple of reviews I've read on HZD so far, given that they're usually far more positive than the international reviews.
I saw a cringe worthy bit of dialogue from HZD in another threat, but that was hardly mentioned by the reviews I read. Also it's interesting how the beginning did not blow him away whilst most previews were impressed by the beginning of the game.

How less tactical than ME3 can gameplay get? Inability to use squadmate powers for once. Although Bioware did put more emphasize on giving them general orders for movement, holding positions and who to attack. So, I dunno, we shall have to see how it will work in MEA.

Is the most important part here. He literally says he might feel underwhelmed because he's so overwhelmed by Horizon Zero Dawn. And that DA:I have put his expectations probably way too high. A game that he felt underwhelmed with at first as well, just like ME:A. And that you can't judge Bioware games in a few hours. I think you did quite well making it sound like he didn't like it a bit though

Like they gave every Mortal Kombat game a 100 score in the past. Or even higher than that. Love the magazine though, don't get me wrong, but it's not all serious business for them.

The top marks for HZD are really no surprise. This game has been hyped up since E3 and it's a make or break title for the PS4 Pro after all.
...but yea, not much to say about the MEA previews, they pretty much all boil down to the same.

How less tactical than ME3 can gameplay get? The previous game tactical aspects were: Having to deal with shield/barrier/armor which is still in MEA. Setting up combos which is still in MEA (you just can't pause anymore which means you have to think faster about it). Avoiding sync-kill...which is still in MEA. And, you can go through all 3 games of the trilogy with just a pistol and never using abilities...

But it was very easy to the point of not caring about any skills and abilities.

He played for 10 hours? Isn't that a bit too much for a media preview? Everyone else only had between 2-5 hours of gameplay time. Sorry but am I the only one finding that hard to believe?

To specify he did say the game is massive and he barely scratched the surface, so regarding the tactically it will most likely reveal it self during the course of the game when the difficulty level goes up. Apparently the first few hours you also hardly see their faces which cuts into the dramatic scenes.

More or less what I expected. It's hard to beat ME2's opening. We're not emotionally invested in these new characters enough yet to really appreciate what they're going through.
Also, yea, the gameplay doesn't look tactical at all. But that's fine for me I don't like to micromanage other characters. I prefer Halo-style shooters that focus on movement and twitch.

You people should also see this. Much better explained.
Also MEOdyssey got a message back that what they played was the final version, but not the one who was getting published. The first patch will be fixing animations.
Also, my opinion is that Power Unlimited is rubbish and not noteworthy.

I'm confused. Does that mean that they'll fix the animations after the game's released? Yes with the first patch. Alright, thanks for clarifying. Interesting that they won't just, you know, finish the game before they release it? I can understand how some bugs may pop up, or sometimes things may not quite work out as intended, but animations are obvious for all to see. They should've been aware of this before announcing the release date, back when the first video with animations popped up.
