dragontartare One of the clans that Ashara visits and she goes round will mention their Third has gone missing. When she visits a second clan and it's been attacked outright, their Keeper and First were kidnapped, Ashara will be "on the case." Those bastards. Think it's easy to raid Dalish Clans considering no one cares... I wouldn't think it would be "easy" to raid Dalish clans, especially not since any human that even approaches the area is immediately under suspicion. (or rather anyone not Dalish is a suspect, probably even a city elf)
That said, collecting "strays", especially from clans that tend to throw out young mages into the wilds, that's another matter, and probably much easier.
I suppose someone inside the clan had a contact with the Templars, for the "good of the clan" he would let it slip when they threw out a young mage, thinking that they would only be taken to a circle. The monetary compensation probably helped the clan too...
.What I meant by easy was that not one of the authorities would care. Only the Dalish would care. And they have no allies. And for you it may be more believable for the Dalish to do that, but for me, Ashara would not be checking in with clans that not only abandoned their clan members but sold them to slavery? @_o I have enough on of dark worlds lately. I personally think that only the bad clans would do that- the ones already committing crimes against travelers or even guerrilla warfare I'd a sort. Essentially Elven Bandits, not Dalish. I have no problem with such a victim being there Amon the others, but definitely not who Ashara will be investigating. Regarding a chantry board- this seemed like a sensitive mission, that it wouldn't be open to just any random adventurerers? Did I miss some discussion somewhere while I was marathoning ME3?

Regarding a chantry board- this seemed like a sensitive mission, that it wouldn't be open to just any random adventurerers? Did I miss some discussion somewhere while I was marathoning ME3? My gal is a soloist who ends up in a group. I think she would probably track the kidnappers to the city they were brought to- but lose the ability to follow when everyone foot prints mix together closer to civilization. But this depends more in- where did these kidnappers go to bring their victims? Where should I be losing the trailing the kidnappers, dragontartare ? If they'd never drag them into Velum, but to some other place, I should lose the trail there.

If they'd never drag them into Velum, but to some other place, I should lose the trail there. What about if they are taken to some villa north of Lake Celestine, on the way to the Waking Sea? It would be about equidistant from Velun and Montsimmard. So if they abducted an elf from somewhere outside Velun, they would probably pass nearby the village, where the trail could conceivably get muddled. Or, if it helps, maybe it is very early spring and the snow is melting, which would cause your character to lose the trail, and maybe head into the nearby village to see if they could pick up the trail (or pickup some gossip) there? As for the rest, that's kind of why I wanted everyone to explain how their character gets involved. Mine is investigating a lyrium shipment that was headed for Val Royeaux and never got there, and the caravan was last seen on its way through Velun. For the chantry board, I was thinking that two old acquaintances (merchants, maybe) had planned to meet in Velun, but one of them never made it, and his friend eventually went to our NPC Sister about it. She doesn't realize that this disappearance is related to the disappearing mages, so she posts a notice for the merchant's friend and doesn't think much else of it. She is too preoccupied trying to work out what happened to the missing mages. Our characters will be the ones to figure out that all the disappearances -- travelers, circle mages, and elves -- are connected. Do you think this would be easier on people if I go ahead and post how the story would begin, based on what we know now? Then people can more easily fit their characters in? I feel like I'm not making sense to anyone but myself.

I'll just tag everyone to read your explanation. smilesja mousestalker @tzeenchianapostrophe GoldenGail3 I think the first post will have to be between two NPCs: the Sister, and the merchant whose friend vanished (I will post this). That will get the post on the chantry board, and also can have the Sister thinking of the vanished mages that Leliana asked her to look into. The second post will be my dwarf showing up to town, having followed the trail of the lyrium caravan up to that point, and going to visit the chantry to ask about local news, hoping to pick up clues that way. I figure the best way for us to find out about each other and about all the disappearances would be to have one of two things in common: either we show up to ask the Sister for local news, hoping to pick up our trails again, OR we show up to ask the Sister more about the job on the chantry board, only to find several other people already clamoring for her attention. We realize our supposedly separate paths will actually overlap for a time, so we agree to work together. It is during this early part of the investigation that we find out that all these disappearances are linked. Does that sort of make sense?

I like the trail getting muddled near the village. I also like your explanation for why the Chantry Board, but don't know how it could be a first post. Does that sort of make sense? Yes. IF one of the other characters who has lost a mage companion can be overheard by my character and head towards the sister, she would then follow them secretly to see if she could hear more. That's the only way she'd end up at the Sister's doorstep, by following that person. And realize exactly what you said.

We still need to establish a world-state. (can't remember if we had something final) The date is between DA:I and Trespasser? I had suggested a world state and no one objected, so I updated the first post. We can still change things, though.

Story summary for the first round of posts, based on what you all have said about your characters. Just want to make sure the details are ironed out (and that I understood you properly!) so no one finds themselves railroaded. If anything at all needs to be changed so that your character fits in the way you want, please let me know! 1st post (NPC Sister Nenet and NPC dwarf Bhegan, posted by me): Sister Nenet is reading correspondence from Leliana (or an agent thereof) pertaining to missing mages from the Montsimmard circle and thinking about what could be happening, when she hears a pounding on the door to her office. She opens the door to find a dwarf there to re-introduces himself as Bhegan. He has been in town almost two months, waiting for his brother to come through town. His brother is a merchant whose route takes him through Velun on the way to Val Royeaux, and the two brothers had agreed to meet here in early spring as the last of the snows thaw. He has not come, and Bhegan is beginning to panic. Sister Nenet is concerned, but has no news for him. She agrees to post a notice on the chantry board, though, offering a reward for information as to the caravan's whereabouts. Bhegan slumps off to the inn to wait for news. 2nd post (dwarf rogue Myanna under a pseudonym, played by me, with Sister Nenet as needed): Myanna has been tracking a caravan of lyrium that was due to arrive in Val Royeaux a month ago and never made it. She found traces of the caravan south of town, and has ventured into town to listen for news. She sees the new posting on the chantry board and, on a hunch, goes into the chantry to talk to Sister Nenet and gather more information. 3rd post (Ax, played by GoldenGail3, with Sister Nenet as needed): Ax wanders into town after slaughtering a demon terrorizing a local farm (is this ok, instead of darkspawn? I'm thinking all the murders and blood magic would lure demons to the area). It is very unusual for the demon to have been there at all. He sees the new notice on the chantry board and goes inside the chantry to investigate. He speaks with Sister Nenet about the posting, who answers his questions and then points him toward the rogue who had just been in to talk to her. 4th post (Elaith, played by smilesja, with Sister Nenet as needed): Elaith wakes up on her way to town in the back of a wagon. After getting off the wagon, she sees the posting on the chantry board and goes into the chantry to investigate. Nenet, somewhat amused by this point, speaks with her and directs her to the other two adventurers who'd already asked about the posting. 5th post (Edmund, played by @tzeenchianapostrophe, with Sister Nenet or other NPCs as needed): fights off an attempted kidnapping and...? 6th post (Ashara, played by phoray, with NPCs as needed): tracks missing Dalish mages to somewhere outside Velun, where the trail gets muddled. Follows someone (?) into town after overhearing something about other missing people

Perhaps I could help interrupt the kidnapping, depending on details. @tzeenchianapostrophe and I could colab talk here or in PM unless s/he hates this idea.

So when are we going to begin? Well, I asked everyone to confirm that I had written the correct thing about their character so I didn't screw up the NPC's post, and technically I haven't heard from you Assuming everything looks ok for everyone else, I will write the NPC post and my own post tomorrow. -------- Is anyone's character well-versed in alchemy? I'm coming up with ideas of what kinds of evidence we need to find.

-------- Is anyone's character well-versed in alchemy? I'm coming up with ideas of what kinds of evidence we need to find. Edmund knows how to make some basic potions - that was how his mother and him made their living in that village, but that's about it.
As for evidence, you could always go with more obvious signs, depends on where you want to go with it. You can leave signs of struggle, blood, bodies, broken weapons, etc.
Traces of heavy use of blood-magic perhaps? If the spell/ritual was heavy enough, it might have thinned the veil or left some other metaphysical marks that Edmund might be able to recognize.
If you like the idea of a failed "Oath Bound" getting himself possessed by a fear demon and running away, we could encounter haunting, general creepiness, and as we get closer some actual demonic activity.
Would be a awesome use of my Templar's powers and ablities. I can so totally image him putting on his Templar cap and going full on (forgot that amazing blind Templar from DA:O's name).

Sorry guys, give me another day to post. I got home late and I'm feeling sort of brain dead Probably wouldn't make for a brilliant RP post if I wrote them now. Edmund knows how to make some basic potions - that was how his mother and him made their living in that village, but that's about it.
