I'd kill for a good B5 reference. lol see 70% of the ME trilogy's plot. Only 70% because they didn't bother finishing the job and ending it properly. But hey, I wouldn't turn down more homage. Or maybe since this is a sort of related spinoff, do Crusade  They already failed on the ship though.  Dammit Jim, I'm a Doctor not a bricklayer/escalator/engineer/mechanic/coalminer. Trigun. My favorite colonization-effort-gone-wrong story.
Given the "Remnant" stuff is verified in game, and that I am a fossil, I would not mind a shoutout to "Grandfather", the Droyne and the Chirpers from the old Traveller/MegaTraveller pen&paper RPG. Even if its too much to hope that it would be a _good_ shoutout.

Star Trek 2009 is so obvious IMO Interstellar with the whole "Find a new home" plot I always hope for some Contact references... but the Mass Relays are gone  Ugh, please, no. I loved Star Trek 2009, but with all due respect, the Abrams Star Trek movies are completely different and much more space-magic than the original series. And that's precisely the contamination that Mass Effect has been suffering from. |

Mass Effect in itself is homage lol In many areas but they definitely tried to be subversive at times too. L'Etoile said that he saw the Geth as a mix of the Borg and Q but he didn't want it to become either (in that he didn't want them to be pinnochios nor genocidal by intent.) I really wish his direction had carried through in ME3 because it was starting to feel special in ME2 whereas in 1 they're basically just the Borg and in ME3 they're Q. |
