Because we need somewhere to discuss how awesome New Vegas was and how disappointing 4 and 3 are.
Still...can't believe I was needed to make this thread given there is already a frigging Elder Scrolls one.
But hey whatever, I get to make my first thread about one of my favorite game franchises.

FO3 has awesome ruined locations and post-Apo atmosphere, but dull characters. Its DLCs are good. FO:NV has great story, plot, ruined locations, great characters and interesting choices and consequences. Also great DLCs. Fallout tactics is something different tho: ^ awesome! I haven't reached this mission yet. It's kinda a hard game.

I actually quite liked 4, which seems to go against a lot of people... maybe i just really enjoyed the gameplay improvements and that was enough. New Vegas is still my favorite, easily the best written, with the most interesting quests and an actually good main quest. Why is it that Bethesda seem to put most of there effort and money into the main quests... yet they always seem to be lackluster compared to the rest of the game?

Fallout 4 is my favorite. Really enjoy the environment and characters a lot more than FO3 and NV. Glad they got rid of the green overlay in FO3 and the orange overlay in NV.

Oosh, I am not a fan of the way Bethesda makes Fallout. Think I'll keep it at that lest the thread becomes flooded with my autism.

I´ve played them all and enjoyed it. Character development and storyline are not their strong points, but the atmospheric setting and freedom of play more than make up for it. Of the newer ones, I agree that NV´s story was easily the best. I really liked FO4´s setting and gameplay (maybe influenced by my fondness for Boston as a setting), and the settlement building was surprisingly fun, given that I don´t normally have the patience for such things. The main story did not thrill me nearly as much as I wanted it to. There was a lot of potential depth that was just not there. For all their supposed brilliance, the Institute did not seem to have a very convincing motivation beyond the "we are the future of humanity" repeated ad nauseam, which was really disappointing. The only sad thing about blowing them up was the loss of the classical music channel for me . But I digress. Still clocked 200+ hours on that one, and I´ll likely play the next one as well. I just hope they can up their game in the story department. I dunno. The settlement system makes no sense to me. Those wrecked houses were standing there for 200+ years and no one rebuilt them or even cleaned the place up. But here comes a guy/gal and fixes everything in a couple of mouse clicks and woah look at that, everything is peachy. I would've liked it better if I could design the place, then I have to find people and convince them to work for me, provide them with tools/food and then THEY build the stuff while I'm away kicking ass. And the building could take months in game time not instant. And then I would actually care about my inhabitants and there would actually be a reason to protect them from raiders.

Agreed, that would have been much better. Still liked the building stuff and lots of small things like the missile turret fireworks in the dark quite a bit .

I played FO1, FO2, FO3 and FO4. Of all these, I find 4 to be the worst. Yeah, 4 still has the worldbuilding of titles like Skyrim or FO3. But unlike these two, It´s almost exclusively filled with enemies, enemies and more enemies.
The dialogue is an atrocity. You have 3 different forms of yes and if you are lucky, 1 no. And if it isn´t offering that, ME3s autodialogue would have been better suited. Yes, FO3s dialogue wasn´t always better than FO4s in that regard, but you have to remember that FO3s wasn´t restricted to only 4 options. And it showed when you met the requirements for SPECIAL/SKILL/PERK options. All of which have been reduced to Charisma. Yuck.
But its not just lacking in the dialogue department. Quests are a major concern too. The vast majority are radiant quests. And those that are not, could easily be substituted with those. Moral choices are almost completely absent. There is the odd one, which only influences your companions approval rating, if they are present. The rest of the world just doesn´t give a fuck. Unlike FO1 or FO2, where such choices easily meant that you were forbidden from entering a hub. Yes, FO3 suffered in that department too.
Karma. I don´t miss it. Let´s be honest here, Beths implementation of it was questionable at best. Because in the end, all it influenced was who you could recruit as a follower and which faction came after you. I just friggin blew up Megaton, but nobody in Rivet City gives a fuck.
Companions. The best ones to date in a Beth title.
Settlement building. The only thing that saved FO4 from being uninstalled. Yes, it has its issues. And I´ve mentioned them over on Bethesda.net, so I won´t repeat them here. Let´s just say, I like the creative aspect of it.
SPECIAL/SKILLS/PERKS (FO3/4). I like both systems tbh. Because if you look at it objectively, ultimately both systems achieved the same end. You did twice as much damage, you gained the ability to hack/lockpick at certain milestones, your bartering was better.
But to describe my feelings towards FO4 best, I hit you with a little anecdote. When I started playing FO4, it only took two hours before I got bored. FO3, Oblivion and Skyrim I played for days, weeks even before I got bored.

Fallout 3 is my favorite in the series, followed by 4, then New Vegas. I haven't played the older isometric games, though I do want to. Old World Blues for New Vegas is probably my favorite single bit of Fallout content in the series thus far.

Like some other folks have said, 3 > 4 > New Vegas.
Though I like 4's intro the best.

I like all of the Fallouts. I generally stick to playing the newer ones now. I tried to replay Fallout 1,2 and Tactics but I've been spoiled by awesome 3D graphics. One of the things I don't like about Fallout 4 is they took a shit on the old SPECIAL system, which is the foundation of the games. And then there's the female player in Fallout 4 whose story doesn't jell. They should have went with the military background like the male. How is a lawyer going to know how to whip on power armor and blast zombies with a mini-gun? I just pretend my female protag was in the military to collect on the GI Bill to pay for her college education.

I haven't played the older ones, but enjoyed 3, 4 and NV. Overall setting-wise, FO4 is my favourite, even if the main story isn't particularly appealing to me. I actually never even finished it. I got to the point where it wanted to railroad (pardon the pun) me into picking a side, and I was pretty disillusioned with all of the factions at that point so just never bothered. That said, I loved exploring the Boston wasteland, and it's rife with so many great pieces of visual storytelling. I also enjoyed the settlement building stuff, though the actual mechanics of it were...questionable.
I also liked the companions a bit more, even if they're still pretty useless.

The only thing companions are good for is fodder. They can go a head and engage the enemy at point blank, I'll stay far back and snipe at them. Most of my character builds are snipers. Seldom do I use power armor or big guns like missile launchers and mini guns.

Played Fallout, FO2, Tactics, FO3, and NV. New Vegas has been my favourite so far, but I really enjoyed them all.
I loved the desert wasteland feel of the first games and NV, which substantially supported the feeling of being in a late '70s to '80s post-apocalyptic B movie (that has a certain charm to me; they weren't all B movies, of course).

Hopefully PS4 gets mods for Fallout 4 soon, I've been waiting for the mods to release before I go back to it. I enjoyed Far Harbor, although I'm not in a rush for the Nuka World DLC.

I am a bit disappointed with the DLC selection for FO4. Granted, I haven't played any of them yet--wanted to wait until they were all out to start a fresh game with all content--but I hoped there'd be more story content. After seeing some of the weird stuff on the ocean floor I actually expected a fully underwater one or something, but nope. I can't be too upset because I did get the Season Pass before they jacked up the price, which made it cheaper than it would have been to buy even Far Harbour on its own here. But still... *tears of entitlement*

I only played three Fallouts.
So far Fallout New Vegas has he best story.. Fallout 4 has the best gameplay on the series, using Power Armors is really fun in the game. Also some of the companions are really cool.
Fallout 3 is nice but the main story is too short and the game scenario in the subways (in which you spend a lot of time) is pretty much the same for all of them.

I would've finished New Vegas if a glitch hadn't occurred that stopped me from finishing it. I think once I have a strong enough PC maybe I'll go back to it.
