Was the Legion a known quantity at all from FO1/2? Nope. Though apparently they were going to be a group from the cancelled Fallout 3 game ("codenamed "Van Buren") which would have covered the war between the NCR and the Brotherhood of Steel.

I honestly would love to have a spin off of sorts and get another isometric game in the FO universe. Turn based or not, I think it could be fun.

I wouldn't mind turn based if it was kinda like Xcom. But I tried fallout 2 and just couldn't do it. lol

They made the legion too unlikable. Unlike other factions, the one and only positive is their leader. Ceaser is charismatic, intelligent and cunning. And in a sense, that's the major flaw. Without him the legion just falls apart into a tribe of unstable brutes. I read that they were originally going for a "brutal but effective" faction. And you still get bits of that, like when Cass comments on how Legion caravans are "safe as houses" since raiders know better than to screw with them.
Also, there was lore that got cut saying that female Legion citizens could achieve positions of great respect (non-citizens and slaves...not so much...)
Unfortunately what we got was more an "Evil for the Lulz" faction.
I didn't really see them as "evil for the lulz." I saw them more as a sort of cynical authoritarian cult who think that humanity is fundamentally depraved and corrupt and that their brutal form of "law and order" is the only system that can work. I definitely got that vibe from Vulpes Inculta when you run into him in that town that the Legion has slaughtered, and Raul seems to be somewhat ambivalent if you ask for his opinion of them. The misogyny is probably the thing that makes it hard to see how they've survived, because any women who have enjoyed relative equality would have an obvious incentive to resist them. This is why I think they probably still would have lost the war for New Vegas even if the Courier hadn't been around - most of the women who know how to handle a gun would probably join up with NCR when push came to shove. The only ones who might not would be the ones who thought they might be able to just avoid direct Legion rule, e.g. the female Great Khans and Brotherhood members. If anybody's evil for the lulz in FONV, it would probably be the Fiends and the small raider gangs.

Why would a female courier even help the Legion?

Why would a female courier even help the Legion? Why would even a male Courier?
Even if I was the evilest dude to walk under the Mojave sun, I'd think twice about joining forces with a group who once covered their second-in-command in pitch, set him on fire and threw him off a dam. Stuff like that does not guarantee that I'd ever be too high up the food chain to be considered expendable, especially if you are seen to become a threat.
---
As for FO4;
Thinking about doing a "Never Leave Sanctuary" run, anyone attempted this before who could offer any pointers? Not planning on doing this challenge on Survival, I enjoy building settlements too much and it's a nightmare to try to rug/pillar-glitch things when can't rely on autosave to fix your screwups.

What do you mean never leave sanctuary? like you're never going to go do any quests? or? I suppose that's one way to keep Preston from giving you more. But yeah, I'm not sure what sifr means either. I only played the game all the way through once, but I don't think much happens in Sanctuary if you just sit around there and don't follow any quest lines. At most maybe you'd get a raider / Super Mutant / feral ghoul attack once in a while.

I want to think they mean making sanctuary your main base, which I've done multiple times, but if you don't wanna fast travel a lot it sucks because it's way out of the way from like... everything lol

I don't get why the threads are split up now? This just creates less traffic by continually separating everyone, because most posters will not be bothered to look in every fallout thread.
Anyway, I usually wait to purchase a game now days to see if it's even worth my time and hard earned money. Now after doing enough research on fallout 76, I've decided that even if a friend gave me the game for free, I'd want their money back....for myself, for having wasted my valuable time on it.
My friend got this game because he wanted to give it a chance but it's so riddled with bugs for him that it's unplayable. He gave up playing after shooting an enemy, only for their HP to go right back up.
I think the fallout franchise is pretty much dead to me depending on what their next game is like. Especially with the creation club that was always breaking my mods in fallout 4 if I forgot to shut off my automatic updates. I just hope elder scrolls doesn't suffer the same fate, because I prefer that series by far.
I've also recently installed the original fallouts on my pc again. From what little I remember of fallout 2, I enjoyed it. Got forced into a shotgun wedding, got my spouse killed and became a porn star, great times.

This is the fallout franchise thread, because now all of the game threads have been separated for some lame reason. Did you not actually read my post where I also mentioned fallout 1 and 2 and 4.
Or are you bringing this up because I said something bad about a game you like?

I don’t care if you don’t like the game, it’s your opinion. At least you’re more respectful unlike a lot of people on Reddit, YouTube and even some on this forum.

Phew, finally finished Fallout 3 and all the DLC for the first time. (It only took ten friggin' years!) One of the most hilarious things to happen during my playthrough was during Point Lookout, when Professor Calvert telepathically contacts you about working with Desmond. At the point where he suggested having "a better idea"... my entire game crashed to desktop. I know that was a complete coincidence, but still... well played, Professor.

I really love the Fallout series. 4 was my first game, then I bought 1, 2, 3 and NV. 4 is my fav, being my first and it helped me get through some difficult times in my life. I even named my 2 cats after the female protagonist and Nick Valentine.
I really liked how Bethesda handled relationships in it and going back to play the old ones, it felt odd to not bond with my companions. I think NV had a bit more dialogue, but 3 was very empty and yet had some of my fav companions.
I'm about to try 1 and 2 now. These bring back memories of the games I used to play when I was younger.
