It's actually a smart move on their half, even from a financial point of view.

As popular as ME3 MP was, the playerbase likely wouldn't have survived the split that always happens as a result of having paid DLC.

I really hope that means there will be maps added in the dlc like they did for me3mp. It was sickening in daimp that the only new map was the dragon map on fire, or in a snow/lightening storm.

By making MP free, it's DLC as well, they pull in more players, and more players = more packs bought.
They just did the internal math, and used ME3 MP for reference.
Free MP + packs bought = more cash than paid DLC + bought packs.

IMHO in a game like MP with ME if you make players pay for maps you stand to fracture the game player base, I would think there would be an out cry from player trying to find games, play with friends as we work as a team, it would probably work well in a PVP but not ME.

Even Call of Duty struggles with this and it's a lot bigger in the PC multiplayer scene. Having paid DLC would be straight up suicide for a "niche" product like MEMP.

Of course I'd prefer the MP to have no monetization at all cause it always has a negative impact on those who don't want to spend money. But if they have to do it to justify spending resources on it to the suits, I'd rather have microtransactions than paywalled content.

I was speaking more about their "daddy" and the people who were the company in essence no longer being there thus the games that are now coming from the company and its a seemingly downward slope. I wouldn't say they were always bad. When the company was how it started out I was a fan. I think Mass Effect was an amazing blueprint for a great game and despite not having any MP ME2 is one of my favorite games ever.

If ME: A MP is coming with 4 or less maps I think its safe to say its going to be as bad or worse than DAMP.

If it wasn't for MP then the ME3 endings would be different and MEA would have a 200 hour campaign instead of just a 100+ hour campaign.

First of all, I like MP games. I don't hate MP in games. But I don't even know anyone who likes MP anyway in their Mass Effect, and I never enjoyed it myself. Therefore, no one likes the mode and it should be banished.
