Wow, how the fuck does Morinth have a thread before Samara! Anyway this page from Epantiras' Mess Perfect comic some's up my thoughts on Samara pretty well. Yeah, I really liked that Samara was a more mature take on the Paladin trope.

I like that too. It's hard to fit in a typical do-gooder category, but I guess she sees herself that way.
It's funny that only Paragon options try to call her out on it (not my thing though).

Would have loved to see how she and Cassandra interact together! Both are paladins looking to uphold ideals, both are fierce yet care so much about doing the right thing! I think what makes Samara so intriguing is that she defies the impression that paragons are soft, wimpy pacifists. That brutal way she snapped that merc's neck after giving her three chances to avoid that just gives shivers. D:

Plus, I found the code really interesting. It certainly appears that BioWare took a lot of inspiration from Judge Dredd when writing Samara.

As much as I like Cassandra, I don't think they're alike. She's watered down to like just about any type of character or choice. Even Sera's beliefs provide more conflict in the story. Even Alistair had more conflict. Something about Samara (and partly Thane) kind of makes me feel guilty or want to do better

Even Alistair had more conflict. Something about Samara (and partly Thane) kind of makes me feel guilty or want to do better Cassandra did have moments where she didn't like certain choices the Inquisitor made, like allying with the mages. She would defer but it was always clear when she disapproved. Samara does the same in a way by swearing to obey Shepard's orders but making it clear she will act if pushed too far once the mission was done. Though the more I think about it, the more you're right in that Cassandra and Samara have very different personalities. Cassandra has a fiery temper, she's passionate and adorable in her fondness for romance novels while Samara is consistently calm and dignified.

Definitely one of the most interesting squadmates in the trilogy. I really wanted to know more about her and the Code.

And the fact that you can never be together even if she does fall for you. Perfect. One of the arguments I made to Bioware was that I wanted better closure with Samara and that it didn't matter to me if she had to reject my manShep again. The option to talk about it should have been there, and I am glad they included it with the Citadel dlc.

"Find peace in the embrace of the goddess." *face punch. I love that line. (Dead bitches everywhere) Eclypse sister: Those were my best troops! Samara: Tell me what I want to know and I will let you live. ES: One of us will take you down Justicar! (Samara chucks a bitch, right out the window and then puts her boot on her neck. Samara: What was the name of the ship?

I always liked everything about her character, but her face. First time I saw her, I thought she was a villain. Partly because she killed all that one defeated asair, and mostly because she had the emotionless look of a psycopath.
Every time I look at her, I get a little scared she is going to murder me in my sleep.

Every time I look at her, I get a little scared she is going to murder me in my sleep. I wonder if that's what the developers were aiming for in making her complicated. On one hand, she upholds a Code meant that prioritizes saving lives over killing the corrupt. On the other, she's so merciless in her all or nothing judgement that it's meant to be off putting even for paragons. The upside is that she normally warns those she's about to kill and gives them a chance to avoid it.

Rana McAnear is the face model of Samara and I gotta say: The original in flesh and blood looks better than Bioware's interpretation.

Before the second game was released, I didn't expect much from Samara. I was expecting her to be there just for the sake of having an asari squad mate without creating too many variables for Liara's role in the third game.
I ended up being genuinely impressed, though. Especially her line, "I sat in a med-lab while a near-sighted doctor droned at me, and I learned that nothing was as I thought it would be."

Does anyone have thoughts on whether Samara receives charity for showers, meals, basic living needs or is it all funded by the Order? Kinda awkward if Justicars need equipment to pursue enemies out in hostile conditions and they lack a breathing mask.

Kinda awkward if Justicars need equipment to pursue enemies out in hostile conditions and they lack a breathing mask. I think she'd definitely receive that sort of charity in Asari space, but elsewhere probably not so much. Then the Order would likely have to step in with funding if the Justicar has to leave Asari space in pursuit - like Samara. Though we're told it's not very common. Curious to know if Justicars are recognised by the Turian and Salarian governments..

All that money that came from selling all her possessions had to go somewhere! Would be waaay too awkward if a Justicar had to provide her own funding all the time. Can't fight injustice if her armor needs repairs, she hasn't eaten in days and can't find someplace to sleep adequately. Unless that's part of their struggle and hardship Samara talks about.

On the show Babylon 5 there is a race called Minbari who display your typical enlightened space elf/ Crystal Spires and Togas tropes. They believe it is an honor to serve and they have telepaths who are public servants. Wherever they go they are given all they need by the people.
This obviously has no binding effect on ME but I think something similar could be another likely explanation given the reverence asari citizens have for Justicars. Within asari space, Justicars pay no fees and any law abiding citizen would be honored to provide their food, shelter for the night or any other mundane or more specific help. Outside asari space, the Order has expense accounts, likely set up/funded by the asari government.
Another parallel is obviously the Jedi Order. Jedi always have money if they need it but they never really talk about where the money comes from. I don't think the Jedi Council is sitting on a mountain of treasure so likely they're subsidized by the Republic.

I really like Samara's demeanour and find her dignity and poise incredibly attractive. She is almost a thousand years old, so it may be the result of age and wisdom. Come to think of it, I seem to have penchant for ancient beings (not you, Coryphenus).
