I hope I'm not the only guy who watches or watched/liked wrestling. From today's watered down WWE crapfests and Broken Hardy's of TNA to old school AWA, AJPW, NWA and other worldwide feds, there's lots to look into and discuss.
What do I like? A good mix between good storytelling and pure wrestling.
Favorite federations/promotions: WWF 80's-2005, WCW 90's, ECW (actual ECW and Heyman-run ECW in 2005-2006), Pro Wrestling NOAH, New Japan Pro Wrestling.
Favorite Wrestlers: Macho Man, Great Muta, Minoru Suzuki, CM Punk, Steve Austin, The Rock, Ultimate Warrior, Bret Hart, Shinsuke Nakamura, Brock Lesnar, Broken Matt and Brother Nero, Austin Aries Favorite shows today: Impact Wrestling, NXT
What I hate: Boring promos, John Cena, seeing my favorites go to WWE and get made to look like crap (Bullet Club), New Day

nWo is the only time I liked Hogan. I liked him during the Hulkamania run too. Towards the end of 96 though he was the pioneer of the 20 minute promo lol. Kind of a scumbag (like Cena, except Hogan has talent and could wrestle in the right environment and also understands psychology and storytelling wtf I'm ranting in parantheses). Anyone psyched for Summerslam or NXT Takeover? Bound For Glory? Personally, anytime Brock is on the card, I'm watching. I'm prolly gonna skip the Smackdown women's match and Cena's likely burying of AJ. The main event will deliver though. Balor/Devitt is a hell of a wrestler like Rollins. Moreover, NXT Takerover events have become the best WWE produced shows hands down. Shinsuke Nakamura vs Samoa Joe? Asuka ( ) vs. Bailey II? Revival vs. Gargano and Ciampa? GREAT matches, those.

I haven't watch wrestling since the early 2000s. I'm old school 80s. Some favorites are: British Bulldog, Mr. Perfect, (Those two got me interested into going to the gym, wanted to look like them), Ric Flair, Chris Benoit, "the Crow" Sting, Undertaker, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Big Van Vader.

I'm just curious but why do people watch this when there's actual boxing and the UFC? Because they're not the same thing. That's like asking why people would ever watch movies when they could just be watching documentaries. Anyways, 90's All Japan master race also been watching the G1 fairly casually the last few weeks, not watching every single show but taking a look here and there and definitely the matches that get praised as worth checking out. Ishii vs. Okada was amazing, as was Naito vs. Omega and the finals. Omega is the man right now.

Oh wow, I had a poster of him on my wall when I was five. That takes me back. Best wrestler ever is clearly The Shockmaster, that costume can't be beat. UCW Pro Wrestling was recently on tour here, bringing along Rikishi (who has aged surprisingly well) and Tatanka, who hasn't. I never went to see it as I haven't watched wrestling in ages, but my brother and nephew went, and apparently had a great time.

There's no real reason in my mind to stretch it out longer than roughly three hours. The Takeover shows pretty much always deliver though, so that'll most likely be really good top to bottom. Really looking forward to the main event there with Nakamura being amazing in terms of delivering when given a big match and top billing and Joe being completely rejuvenated of late and looking more like the Joe who was one of the best in the world around 03-06 rather than the shell of himself he was for a few years there. Though Nakamura has set a really high bar for them both earlier in the year with his debut match against Zayn and the Tokyo Dome match against AJ back in January.

THIS is real: Agressive chick had a beef with the up and comer who was much more popular and taking her spot. It was extremely unprofessional and she got seriously hurt. Toward the end she shouts "THIS IS WRESTLING! BE PROFESSIONAL!" or something to that extent.

To a guy like me, who's been sick of Cena for over 10 years, and who's stopped watching the shows on a regular because of Cena and his booking (and Vince's idiocy) it'll be the worst match. Not just because my man AJ's gonna carry that loser to a watchable match that he'll lose, but because Cena's such a bum and botches nearly every move he tries. They're gonna have him spam kickouts like always and AJ's gonna lose somehow or if AJ actually wins, it's because of shenanigans. They can't have one of the most well-rounded wrestlers since Eddie (RIP) beat this guy clean. In any other sport such a terrible "athlete" wouldn't even be on the bench. To each their own, though. If you like him and/or his matches you are entitled to your opinion.

I'm decidedly neutral towards him in general, but usually like his PPV matches in spite of his shitty punches. And the kickout spam is more the company style in general for big matches, not really exclusive to him.

I was right, AJ/Cena was easily the best thing on last night's show. Nothing that came after could really follow it, Balor/Rollins was alright but still a level below even if I'd ignore that the crowd was preoccupied for a good chunk of it with (rightfully) shitting on that new belt. Though Arn Anderson's twin sons had the best match of the weekend overall with Gargano & Ciampa. The rest of that Takeover card ended up being good, but not great except for some awesome entrances and individual moments like finally delivering a G2S on an officially broadcasted show. They should just let people blade for matches like Sunday's main event if the alternative is the unpredictability of having a brute like Brock Lesnar throwing shoot elbows to his opponent's head, hoping it only results in a small cut and not a Grand Canyon sized gash that's pissing blood like what ended up happening.

NXT Review TYME~!! Takeover B2B was probably my favorite show of the year, hands down. Takeover: Dallas was great too but had some meh moments and matches. Back To Brooklyn was on point and never missed a beat. The matches were highly entertaining and the crowd was HOT. Great debut for Athena (Ember Moon), great teases for upcoming feuds. Okay, here we go. No Way Jose vs Austin AriesLoved Jose's entrance and it was a good match to start the show since NWJ is a good guy to get the crowd to pop. Despite what a lot of people say about the guy's gimmick, I like it for this. What I didn't like was Aries, a guy who's proven time and time again should be in the main events (TNA run anyone?) was the curtain jerker. That aside, he did what he does best; carry a guy to good match. Nice start to the match with Aries going into some amatuer mat wrestling to show off on Jose and the spot with Jose responding in kind. Solid back and forth action with a nice TKO and Falcon Arrow hit on AA. The right man won in this one as it did more to put over NWJ than a win would with the story they told of the well-liked new guy hanging with the vet. I smiled ear to ear when KENTA/Hideo came out and hit the G2S. This will be a fun rivalry to watch. 7/10 Ember Moon debut -vs Billie KayLoved both ladies' entrances and Billie looked quite entrancing tonight (baddum chssh). I LOVE the red eyes gimmick Ember has btw. Can you imagine a staredown between her and Asuka? That'll be 10x more intense and spine tingling than most of the males on the main roster. SHEESH! Match starts with Ember hitting some of her signature moves to give the audience a taste of what she's all about. Good on Corey Graves for mentioning Booker T. was one of her trainers. That guy should be calling all shows with Mauro and JBL without constraints, then I'd be able to listen to a commentary team who would ADD to the show. Back to the match, Billie did botch a couple of moves but it did not take away anything. The crowd was a little lukewarm but once Ember sped up the pace a bit after a comeback and hit the O-Face that Diving Corkscrew Stunner (you read that right) the crowd came back alive. 6/10 Bobby Roode vs. Andrade "Cien" AlmasOMG this match was FUN!. Roode's entrance was better than the whole Summerslam show alone. That song is damned catchy and the Flair mannerisms were on point. Like Aries, this man is pure gold and bring a certain old school grit that most guys have been lacking. I just hope he puts on some more wieght, he seemed a bit thin since the last time I saw him wrestle Lashley in TNA. The crowd was on FIRE for him and even started crapping on Almas. Even then Almas got them back on his side with things like the Spiderman spot and that SICK springboard corkscrew crossbody outside. Roode's gloating was GREAT stuff. My only complaint was that Roode's Pumphandle Drop finisher was pretty dull compared to the Roode Bomb (Fireman's Carry into a Neckbreaker drop). 8/10
The Revival vs. Ciampa & Gargano (DIY) for the NXT tag team titlesThis match stole the show. The Revival has stepped up their game exponentially since last year and they are easily the best heel tag team in the biz. These guys were on their game with some straight up old school stuff you rarely see these days this side of Minoru Suzuki and SUWA. If you're familiar with Johnny Gargano and Tomaso Ciampa, you know those guys can GO in that ring like few others. I don't even know where to begin this match was so good from a technical and psychology standpoint. From Dash's cheapshots to Dawson "falling into the ring" to distract the ref to stop a hot tag, everything between these guys just clicked. The double teaming and tag team moves were a breath of fresh air compared to the trash that typically main events the main roster shows. Good old fashioned dirty heel wrestling and technical babyface wrestling that felt like a Hart Foundation vs. LOD match. I loved the drama and spots (Johnny's superkick on Dawson and slingshot spear on Dash was nice) and the storytelling with how Revival worked over Gargano's knee near the end to get the victory. As a fan it sucked to see Gargano and Ciampa lose but this match was head and shoulders above so many other tag team matches (except maybe Revival vs American Alpha) in WWE. 10/10 Asuka vs. Bayley for the NXT Women's titleWith them having arguably the best match at Takeover Dallas they had a big challenge ahead of themselves in topping that. This match didn't quite deliver for me from that perspective as I much preferred that finish but they did wrestle a great championship match. Good storytelling here as well with Bayley showing she was bringing the intensity to take on Asuka. It really put over how she trained harder to beat Asuka this time (from a kayfabe perspective). The many teases with the Crossface played on their previous match well. Asuka really laid in her kicks and Bayley even hung with her with some nice forearm and elbow strikes. I really like Bayley's springboard corner elbow drop. Makes Macho Man smile with how emphatically she nails that spot. With Asuka unable to finish Bayley like before, this ending saw Bayley get her face and chest kicked in for the 3 count. After the match, Asuka and Bayley hugged, both nearly in tears due to Bayley going to the main roster and Asuka taking the reigns of queen of the mountain on NXT. The crowd show a lot of love for Bayley and it was well deserved. 8/10 Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Samoa Joe for the NXT World ChampionshipLike Roode earlier, Nakamura's entrance was beautifully done: Crowd went insane for Nakamura's entrance and with those violins and the fans' singing his theme it was an electric atmosphere, same with Joe's entrance. Intense start to the match with Joe and Nakamura working a bit of an mma shoot style, going for shoots and single leg takedowns with some STIFF knees and kicks. Joe was nearly back to his RoH/TNA form with his slower, methodical style of slowing down the action and hitting some emphatic slams and much like Aries and Asuka, Joe hits Nakamura with a NICE suicide dive (that's how its done, Ambrose). Back and forth action with slower pacing in the middle to get the crowd ready to go crazy when it eventually sped up for the go home section that saw Nakamura and Joe really lay into each other with chops and some brutal knees. Nakamura hit a nice Kinshasa to finish the match. Nice way to end it with the "broken jaw" Joe suffered. I felt it was good but that they were holding back for the expected rematch. Solid main event. 7.75/10. Overall I loved this show from start to finish and even matches that were predictable had enough drama for me to suspend disbelief and made me feel like it was 1992 again. This is the first wrestling show in years that I've rewatched immediately and I actually missed most of UFC 202 because of it lol. I HIGHLY recommend seeing this one if you've ever been a wrestling fan. The show was well done and the card was perfectly placed top to bottom unlike Summerslam which had the golden boy's midcard match after TWO world title matches and just before the main event. Every match here delivered in a big way and its said that NXT is WWE's equivalent to a minor league yet this league is eons better than the main show (maybe because it doesn't have two cancers killing it or a senile moron scripting everything. hm...). I'll do a Summerslam review later on but for NXT Takerover: Back 2 Brookyln I give it a 10/10 for enjoyment and 9/10 overall rating. The WWE network is worth the buy when there's a Takeover even going on.

I'm just curious but why do people watch this when there's actual boxing and the UFC? Because pro wrestling is an art form. When you have a great match or great character implemented into a match with great storytelling it's highly entertaining. It's all about athleticism, drama, and suspension of disbelief. If one of those is absent then you more than likely have the drizzling shits as they say. I watch boxing for the slugfests and scientific boxing of guys like Pacquiao, Ali, Mayweather, Leonard, Haggler, Ward and others. I watch MMA for the more intrinsic fighting styles of muay thai and juijitsu and wrestling. When you see styles mix up against each other or witness unpredictable KO's or high-level sprawling it always makes for a deep fight. Comparing the 3 is apples to oranges and getting entertainment value out of each is not mutually exclusive. I've watched a few UFC events since the 90's but wasn't really a fan until I saw TUF season 1 and that war between Stephen Bonnar and Forrest Griffin (and the lesser appreciated Luke Cummo vs Joe Stevenson). Is it fake? Eh, not the best way to describe it as those stunts are 100% real (most of the strikes and most submissions). I'd say choreographed fighting is the most accurate interpretation. Like a mix between mma and a movie or tv show.

I used to watch a lot of wrasslin', both the stuff actually on TV (WWF/E and some TNA) as well as Japanese promotions where I could find their stuff. Eventually though, I grew bored of the former and found I was just rewatching old videos from the 80s/90s of the latter on Youtube. Still, I do still check out the odd bit here and there but I don't really keep up on what is happening. As for my favourite wrestler?

I remember watching a bit of as a kid, and that actually kept up as a teenager and a bit into adulthood actually. I did a bit of WCW, WWF, WWE, TNA, Japanese promotions, etc.
I stopped watching around 2011 or so though, just lost interest.
I still remember a few interesting moments though.
