I dug out some of my stuff and took pics. These are my two main basses. Fender p-bass special and an Ibanez sr600. This is my prestige Ibanez rg guitar. Best $900 dollars I've ever spent. Tried to get a few angles on these. This thing is a dream to play. It's also totally metal as fuck \m/ \m/ and came with a hardshell case which is built like a tank. This here is my Schecter baritone guitar. It's tuned lower than an average 6-string but you can still play open chords on it if you want. The neck feels like a baseball bat compared to the Ibanez but it's still a great instrument. Better shot of the headstock so you can see the thicker strings. I still have a couple other guitars and one other bass hiding somewhere but those things were so old, cheap and shitty that it wasn't worth dragging them out.

I played alto sax and oboe for four years in school, piano for many years, and dabbled with flute and trombone. For a brief time I was drummer in avant garde band solely because I had never played the drums but owned a pair of drumsticks. We never performed. I have longed to lay a string instrument of any sort because it intimidates me but, despite having purchased a mandolin and "how to" books, have never actually tried. Maybe once the kids move out of the house and hubs is out with his buddies...I have a terrible fear of them hearing me fail miserably, which is guaranteed when learning a new instrument.

Started piano when I was 9 years old. Gave up because I decided to do Taekwondo instead XD But at school we do have a compulsory music class so I guess I played the recorder??? Joined the school band and played the clarinet. As well singing in a choir... Took up guitar lessons for a bit but work got too overwhelming. If I could turn back time I'd definitely learn both the drums and guitar... One of my dreams is to be able to play Foo Fighters - Everlong on an acoustic guitar

I'm a bass player, both electric and standup. I attended New England Conservatory in Boston but never graduated. Playing these days is mostly just a hobby for me with the occasional gig here or there.

Y'all play any instruments? A triangle counts too! I play the guitar and some piano. I have a thing for guitars.
Guitar mostly.. but I've let mine collect dust these past few months. It just stares at me, waiting.

Got my new bass today. Ain's she a beauty?! I messed around with it a bit I gotta say I'm really happy with it. I've always loved the Ibanez brand and they never disappointed me over the years. The neck is nice and smooth and the natural body color is always a deal sealer with me. Now I just need to get a new bass amp because I don't have a working one at the moment (my original amp broke thanks to my brother the turd butt) It's got some nice pickups too that I can't wait to hear once I'm able to plug it in. Time to rock! \m/ ...or something like that.

Classically trained Bassist (Contrabasse) and Cellist, as well as one year's worth of instruction on the Piano (and self-instruction alongside that,) Jazz ensemble and theory for the Bass, Beginner percussion skills (I played a lot of music in middle and high school,) as well as a hobbyist of more exotic instruments: I own a 4-foot didgeridoo that I got when I lived in Australia, and I've experimented with it on and off.
I also play the bass guitar, though in recent years, I've moved away from the instrument. I have one 2006 Fender (USA) Precision bass, and a Hamer Explorer Bass that I don't really play (a gift from my parents from when I was more avid.) I play a lot of genres, and I musical theory and pedagogy is more important to me than any particular genre. I used to be really into rock, but I prefer more instrumental and soundscape styles, or stuff that experiments outside the box with a particular instrument.

I was Classically trained on the Piano from around age 6 and never quit and am now 29. I loved it and was never one of the kids that hated practicing, so it quickly became one of my obsessions. The only thing that bothered me while growing up was that my parents originally had plans for me to play professionally, probably the only thing about the Piano I rebelled against. Playing in front of large crowds of people terrify me and I would've died an early death from stress anyway, so I prefer playing for myself and friends. I also decided to take Violin lessons at 14 because I always loved it and found that my background in music helped quite a bit, #1 is still Piano in my eyes though. Unfortunately for most people I'm a bit of a stiff because of my love for classical music and it's mostly all I play. I thought about getting into Jazz for others but my desire for it is just not there idk.

Classical is great, but I've always found it to be too stilted and stiff until around the dawn of the Romantic-period. I think another issue (at least with the classical culture) is that it's defines too much what is 'good' music compared to other genres - it's sort of like the groups that think and rate only ballet as the best style of dance, and the people who rate Shakespeare as the best theater, or classical literature as the best, etc. In a lot of ways, it's just reactionary in my estimation.

Good taste! the Romantic period is my favorite. Yeah I've been around those types of people before and don't quite understand it, it's elitist and snobby. I'm not one of those that think classical is the best, it's just simply the best for me and I'm a strong believer in doing what you love. I really don't feel like I would be able to give something the attention it deserves if I don't love doing it. Although I'm still thinking of getting a Jazz teacher, I feel that it's a style I might not appreciate until I try playing it for myself.

I do some music... since 5 years old (drums first though), can play keyboards, guitar, bass and flute too. We had all the instruments available in our family as my father played in a band. Have done mainly on computers though, started with Commodore 64, then Amiga series mostly for Demoscene ... some live gigs too =) Click on the links in my signature to access music made by me & my friend, soundcloud has more Soft Knees and older stuff available thanks!

Although I'm still thinking of getting a Jazz teacher, I feel that it's a style I might not appreciate until I try playing it for myself. Jazz and teaching are two words that tend not to go great together. You can be 'taught,' but it's mostly in techniques and irregular rhythms rather than any specific style. One of the things about jazz is developing your own style and working on it, which is what makes Jazz so unique, and so difficult to play in a lot of ways. My advice is to focus on improvisational skills, and to get there, just know (as you do) your scales and the circle of fifths. The only real 'technical' advice is to work on proficiency for irregular time signatures, and even those aren't static within any particular piece. Of course, I speak as someone with a love and affinity for free-form, improvisational jazz. In my humble advice, save yourself a lot of money on an instructor and try visiting a jazz club and watching/listening to some improvisational parts online and see how many of the players play.

Took a quick listen of some of your soundcloud stuff and it's very impressive. Nicely done! I was getting ME vibes from it. Again, very good. I used to do my own recording way back in the day on a shitty Compauq PC that would crash every 10 minutes when recording. I did some weird techno/electronica stuff and eventually started doing some metal stuff as well. Had a really cheap and generic drum machine to programs all the drum parts and then try to record guitars and bass over it. Sadly all that stuff is gone so I can't even remember what most of it sounded like. I'm hoping to eventually get back into doing that again which is why I'm in the process of buying new gear.
