ME:A has brought back collectible consumables and amped them up. How do you feel about those available and the system? Is having ammo lasting only a few magazines a good mechanic or do you feel limited to the point of hording? Would you rather jump into missions with a set amount of consumables with the occasional pick up along the way like before or enjoy massing up and burning a bunch on hard missions?

Its what I wanted. 'Ammo powers' ideally will be items, and possibly extra powers that would just keep us from refilling on items.
Didn't make sense for them to be such a power focus.

HOW THE FUCK DO YOU USE THEM? Dead serious here, haven't used a single consumable in 10 hours, I've equipped them in loadout at the start of exploration. Where are they located on the interface? What do you have to press to use them?

can't you just access them from the tab panel when your weapon is out? At least that seems to work for me....
I'm going to go all out on ammo powers....going for the biggest clip size buffs so they'll last a bit longer and for the best upgrades for them (there is skill that give 30% effectiveness increase in consumables, I guess this also goes for ammo powers like incinerate? if so, does it mean longer use, or more damage?....should have been more clear imo)

Makes me wonder...how do ammo consuables work with Vintage Heat Sinks and other Charge based weapons?
I'm certainly not a fan of consuables. I would like if we had an equipment slot that gives permanent passive bonuses instead.

I am not sure yet how I feel about it...because I had no idea they were there when I played! (seriously though, the tutorial was not the best in this game) But I will say this...my ultimate favorite thing to do in old ME games is equip cry ammo (always set to my #1 key) and freeze my enemies through the scope of my sniper rifle. Now, if I want to use cry ammo, I have to press tab and find the ammo mid battle, which seems annoying. I have a feeling I will rarely touch them, tbh. I would whine about it...except...because I am no longer class restricted, if I want to freeze enemies, I will just do it with the god-like powers of cryoblast. If I want to burn them, I will use incinerate. If I want to achieve massive devastation, I will use combos with my team. I ain't got no time for the consumable wheel! I will also be zipping, hovering, slamming, and generally mopping up the baddies by running all over the field like a wolverine high on angel-dust. I mean...why would I even bother pulling up my wheel to access some random ammo when I can do all that?? It's obvious from my time with the trial that I will no longer be a sneaky infiltrator with cryo and disruptor ammo. But I am cool with it! I'll just have to learn a new playstyle to enjoy this game, and I kinda doubt consumables will be a part of it...

I hope I can have scenarios where I'm playing on Insanity, and I have to scout out a lot of enemies in the open zones, and set up some powers and items beforehand.
That's a big part of RPG-ing to me. Like if I don't craft and use that cryo ammo, I know my encounters will be harder or maybe at times impossible (at least for my shooter skill).
Obviously on Normal it won't matter lots. But I hope it will on Insanity.

It would have been better to erase them from the game altogether at this point... Or remake them into weapons mods, like they were in ME1: now, that would have been good.

The question on how to use consumables was nicely ignored here. I know it's via the weapons wheel but I can't seem to open it...
I held down virtually every key on my keyboard and it doesn't come up. Is it because I have only 1 weapon equipped?

I played Witcher 3 on Deathmarch and the only potion you need is water (and the gourmet skill). Talk about a broken consumable system. As for ME:A, I don't use them, it's too bothersome. I just sell that stuff for credits. Just carry one spare Life Support thingy around because after running into a Level 3 radiation zone on Eos I got paranoid. For Ammo, I'd rather have ME1's slot system back. ME2/3's ammo-skill system would work in a pinch but ONLY if it's not taking up one of my flipping three skill buttons!

I think they are stupid and I completely ignore them. I kept whatever the default selected were and when I opened up another one I just slapped something in there. Yeah they weren't really explained in the game either which made it really confusing. Shoot I am still confused a bit on how to use them. Took me a bit to figure out you don't have medigel and how to heal lol.

They don't even bother to come up with some bullshit excuse like for the thermal clips back in the day, they just said "this is how it is now". BTW, speaking of thermal clips, I like how you can now "downgrade" your weapons to the old outdated vintage heat sink tech, which makes the weapons massively more powerful by using one of the most expensive augmentations in the game. Yeah, that's progress for you.

They are OK, a bit tedious and there is absolutely no reason not to be able to hot key them. Having to pause the game to use a consumable goes against the nature of the combat system they created. A lot of people complained about ammo being powers but they were much more convenient and fit better into the old single cooldown system.

I think they meant in the original games...? Far as I know, the only way to heal yourself in this game is the med boxes on the ground - if you can find / get to one mid battle. I have no idea if that also heals your squadmates.
