Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw I had someone get upset with me today here on the old Twitter.
Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw The thrust of their complaint was that I have not posted Dragon Age news and instead post “pictures of food like a 15 year old”
Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw Which speaks to an interesting perception of creators as intrinsically linked with their products. One where my tweeting that I was doing …
Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw …anything OTHER than working on Dragon Age was actively given offense. “You’re clearly not working as hard as you could be.”
Sebastian Fransson @sebbeza @mike_Laidlaw Will Trevor Morris be returning as composer for any future DA-installments? His work w DAI was amazing, esp w Tresspasser!
Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw I’d really love to work with him again if the opportunity arises.
Shay Pomeroy @shaypomeroy I think I hear Darkspawn.. #DragonAge
Fletcher @fitzfletcher @mike_Laidlaw @macwalterslives I always wondered, what does a Creative Director at do on a day-to-day basis?
Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw At Bio we’re responsible for the story, gameplay and level design teams while working alongside art and technical directors.
Sorry, whatever format this video is in, I can't get a proper link for it.
Sheryl Chee @sherylchee Those are some wet slappy noises.
Patrick Weekes @patrickweekes I hope we captured that audio for use later.
Sean [content bot] @strayner sorry buddy
Ludovic Chabant @ludovicchabant Frostbite camera system is coming up nice. Currently checking off simple features that were hard to do in previous games.
Ludovic Chabant @ludovicchabant Stuff like seamless blend between gameplay and cinematics, ability to freeze a camera while blending to another one, etc.
Ludovic Chabant @ludovicchabant I’m also pretty happy with how camera shake, like the rest of the system, can be driven by gameplay variables easily.
James W @nijamesw Just read a rumour that the next Dragon Age will be a tactical RPG? Please no. Stick to the usual format. Please
Mark Darrah @biomarkdarrah don't believe everything you read
Ludovic Chabant @ludovicchabant Frostbite camera system is coming up nice. Currently checking off simple features that were hard to do in previous games.
Ludovic Chabant @ludovicchabant Stuff like seamless blend between gameplay and cinematics, ability to freeze a camera while blending to another one, etc.
Ludovic Chabant @ludovicchabant I’m also pretty happy with how camera shake, like the rest of the system, can be driven by gameplay variables easily.
Ludovic Chabant @ludovicchabant This means for instance the frequency of a shake noise is driven by flight speed or weapon rate of fire.
Ludovic Chabant @ludovicchabant Again, fairly basic features, but the difficult, and costly, aspect is nailing the user workflow and how data driven it can/should be.
Alex Walker @thedippaeffect What was the challenge with something like camera shake before?
Ludovic Chabant @ludovicchabant there’s usually not a challenge besides willingness to invest in a better system — games usually stop at “good enough”
Ludovic Chabant @ludovicchabant but I think what we’re trying to do here is make cameras go through the same transition as, say, animation and shaders did
Ludovic Chabant @ludovicchabant i.e. They used to be done by a programmer as a “black box” that users would tweak with a few parameters or so
Ludovic Chabant @ludovicchabant and now they’re completely data driven, with programmers giving a toolbox, and tech designers building the thing themselves
Ludovic Chabant @ludovicchabant this usually results in more iteration, innovation, and overall better results, although it comes with a lot of problems too
Alex Walker @thedippaeffect You'd take that 10 times out of 10 to have something that was more data driven, I'd imagine
Ludovic Chabant @ludovicchabant it depends. Some programmers don’t like to give up control and debuggability. Designers may not have the tech knowledge, etc
Ludovic Chabant @ludovicchabant data driven means having to invest in more tools to debug performance and behaviour, etc. It’s costly.
Sanshee @teamsanshee If you want official @dragonage merch, the Epic Mystery Bundle is the ultimate loot! bit.ly/2cDbsyA
Sanshee @teamsanshee Mystery Mania continues with the @bioware Dragon Age + Mass Effect Women's Triple Pack! bit.ly/2cLtD6k
Patrick Weekes @patrickweekes I just sent @biomarkdarrah a bullshit idea with so many buzzwords slapped into its descriptive sentence that I now kind of want to do it.
Mark Darrah @biomarkdarrah you know I might go for this. You have limited budget
John Epler @ Home @eplerjc oh god he did it.
Patrick Weekes @patrickweekes Yessssssssssssss ... MisterDarrahSir.
Ryan Treadwell ryan_Treadwell You look a little tired, Angela.
Aims Walker @aimsthefirst She was worried someone would tread on her
Liam liamous so these are the new office chairs I've been hearing about
Centerline Art Photo @centerlinephoto So I think I found the @bioware logo in DAI: A coffee mug inside a liquor bottle? @mike_Laidlaw @patrickweekes ??
Lottie Bevan @tronbevan 45mins into DA: Inquisition and I'm on eyebrow rotation and spacing 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Chris Gardiner @chgardiner You will be living with these decisions for the next 70+ hours. Don't rush them.
Alexis Kennedy @alexiskennedy yeah thanks very bloody much @mike_Laidlaw
Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw You’re so very welcome! Keh heh heh heh heh.
Gamermd83 @gamermd83 These past few days have been absolutely surreal. I've felt such a mix of emotions. I want to laugh, cry, scream...just feel. Everything.
Gamermd83 @gamermd83 It's been a dream of mine since I played Mass Effect WAY back when to one day tour of Bioware. I don't know why it always felt impossible.
Gamermd83 @gamermd83 Now I'm here...I toured Bioware w/ one of my best friends. Got to meet SO many amazing people. Got a taste of that life. Of that vibe.
Gamermd83 @gamermd83 These people are working so hard. Give up so much. And truly care about their fans...learned a lot yesterday.
Gamermd83 @gamermd83 I had kind of lost a spark inside me that I used to have. This trip has reignited it. Reminded me who I am.
Gamermd83 @gamermd83 Dont just dream. Work towards them. They don't just magically come true. YOU achieve them. That's what makes them feel amazing.
Ninja Stripes @irongearartz ok, all u r totally trolling. 😂 @gypsiri don't worry. Solas will have a major part in DA4.
Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw Dramatic Artists 4? Is that a stage company or something?
Mark Darrah @biomarkdarrah You've never seen the Dangerous Alligators series? The 4th one will be SWEET
Creppy Donna @_Danicia_ Welp. Looks like I will be running a #DragonAge RPG for @davidgaider today at #GX4 Gonna be SO RAD!

S. Kyra Rush @mandolintiger also, please tell me you'll actually publish Hard in Hightown...
Chris Gardiner @chgardiner Writing game stories is hard when your plot has to account for the fact that a key character might be (a) alive, ( dead, or (c) a moth.
David Gaider @davidgaider By the time I hit DAI, Alistair was only 20% alive...but he was, at least, not a moth. That's true.
Sheryl Chee @sherylchee Hey, @patrickweekes, this can still happen, right?
Mary Kirby @biomarykirby So... Alistair: 80% dead, 20% moth? Is that the plan?
Chris Gardiner @chgardiner This is an appropriate use of maths.
Kotaku @kotaku A life change convinced me to play Dragon Age differently: bit.ly/2doV3kY
BioWare @bioware
A series of distinguished profiles Portraits by Cheyenne T. bit.ly/2dch0OZ #DragonAge
Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw Is it wrong that I want this to be the "ship gift" for whatever project I'm on next?
Why you should play Jade Empire: * jumpy-punchy-kicky combat * first BioWare same-sex romances * it has @nathanfillion doing VO * the twist!
Cori Nicole May @genevrael also, a threesome! I scripted it myself!
David Gaider @davidgaider Didn't you also script the threesome in DAO?
Cori Nicole May @genevrael it's up to a foursome, I think, maybe even fivesome. And yes.
Aidan Scanlan @aidanscanlan
David Gaider @davidgaider You know, at this point I should just lean into the whole "Gaider hates dwarven romances" thing. I may as well, as people keep saying it.
Mark Darrah @biomarkdarrah HEY @patrickweekes YOU BUSY? YOU TRYING TO DO WORK? AM I BEING TOO LOUD? SORRY.
Tim Smith @torlack I thought by now it was well understood you are almost always too loud...
Patrick Weekes @patrickweekes SOME OF US HAVE ACTUAL DELIVERABLES MISTERDARRAHSIR
Mark Darrah @biomarkdarrah Thank you all. Love each other and take care of yourself
John Epler @eplerjc imagine I tweeted that 'Do It For Her' picture from the Simpsons except covered with images of Hawke.
Patrick Weekes @patrickweekes Mark, don't die. I need someone to approve these Lego expenses.
They were for work.
Mark Darrah @biomarkdarrah
Mark Darrah @biomarkdarrah Now everyone thinks I'm dying! I guess that says something about me.
John Epler @eplerjc I've already stolen your chair.
Cameron Harris @camharr take the gong!
John Epler @eplerjc TFW you realize you just called aarynflynn 'dude' out of reflex alone. I also blame @patrickweekes for reasons I can't yet define.
Aaryn Flynn aarynflynn I've been called worse
Patrick Weekes @patrickweekes Oh, a Crash, When Did I Last Save: The Game Development Drinking Game
Sanshee @teamsanshee The Nug King doesn't know what to be for Halloween! Any suggestions?
Kotaku @kotaku Fantasy games become cosplay reality: bit.ly/2dOrOnW
Cassandra Khaw @casskhaw Who are your favorite Dragon Age fan fiction writers?
Cassandra Khaw @casskhaw ... *prods at @mike_Laidlaw meaningfully*
Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw Don’t have any. I avoid reading fan fiction so I don’t have any potential to steal someone’s ideas.
Marco G @wtfman999 @darkhorsecomics @mike_Laidlaw @biomarkdarrah Didn't realize there were new DA comics to look forward to in May. Definitely gonna buy!
Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw There sure are! I think this next arc will be very interesting.
Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw I'm reading a thing here for work and chuckling aloud now and then. That's a good sign.
Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw In the background, I can hear @patrickweekes and @hanlsp plotting. It is a good day.
Chelsie @dragontemptress @mike_Laidlaw do u work on any projects related to mass effect or only dragon age?
Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw Dragon Age only, this far, barring a brief stint on Mass 1 about a decade ago.
sendak's yaoi hand @sarahkfetter you know just for. science. about where are we putting the viscosity of lyrium liquid? like is it syrupy? or is it real thin? just askin
Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw Officially, it's undefined, but if you wanted to declare it having the viscosity of, say, clotting blood, I'd be down with it.
Patrick Weekes @patrickweekes I had always assumed it was like a good maple syrup (specifically an amber, darker and more assertive flavor).
Patrick Weekes @patrickweekes ...for the syrup. Not the lyrium. Lyrium tastes different.
Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw “Busy, but never precocious”
sendak's yaoi hand @sarahkfetter are we talking canadian maple syrup or american
Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw Sarah. Look into your heart. Which would I refer to? Which would I consider syrup AT ALL?
Patrick Weekes @patrickweekes ACTUAL maple syrup, not that high-fructose bullshit used by our unenlightened neighbors to the south.
Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw Patrick! You’ve adopted to our ways so well!
Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw For the benefit of my real followers (as opposed to the porn bots): I am on vacation this week and next. Expect… “punchiness.“
Sylvf @sylvf1 OK but I've sent you a *super* important DM (It's just about videogames).
Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw Received and responded, Feket-Actual.
Billy Buskell @ehlien Today I was asked "are you the Billy from Dragons N Donuts?" Made my day 🇨🇦👽
Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw THE Billy
Blair tWitch Project @thefiddzz 😮😮😮😮
Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw Onward to chocobo victory! As promised to my buds, @eplerjc and @ritzyfoxx.
David Gaider @davidgaider Was shown this: geeky-jez.tumblr.com/post/151758615998/what-do-you-think-of-gaider-controversial … -- appreciate thoughtful analysis and agree with notion that fans are free to disregard entirely.
Alexis Kennedy🕯 @alexiskennedy MEANWHILE IN SKYHOLD INQUISITOR: hi, nice stairs, again GUARD: Are you lost, your Worship? INQ: shut up brb got rifts to close
Alexis Kennedy🕯 @alexiskennedy INQUISITOR: hello, I see you're still guarding the stairs GUARD: It's OK to ask directions you know INQ: THE INQUISITOR IS NEVER LOST
Alexis Kennedy🕯 @alexiskennedy INQUISITOR: just off to Cullen's office GUARD: This is the way to the garden INQ: yes, I was definitely going to that place you said
Sylvf @sylvf1 I feel the fact you can fall as far as you like without taking damage is your greatest navigational aid.
Sheryl Chee @sherylchee I love the Solas -> Dorian -> Leliana -> JUMP route.
Alexis Kennedy🕯 @alexiskennedy IN SERIOUSNESS was there a reason for the long walk to the war room, like you didn't want people to spam it
Sylvf @sylvf1 Don't quote me on this but I think it's a literal loading tunnel.
Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw Yup
Sylvf @sylvf1 Solas put up with a lot of my Inquisitor slamming into his table from a great height to shortcut to the lower library.
Cori Nicole May @genevrael It's the best way to get around, really.
Jo Berry @joanna_Berry After a while he probably used the impact to help mix his paints.
Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw Follower Characters have heavy memory footprints, and X360/PS3 have smaller capacity. Streaming memory.
Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw Platform parity demanded space, essentially.
Alexis Kennedy🕯 @alexiskennedy well as of now in my headcanon it's to discourage people bangin' on the door while INQUIS IS BUSY
- No idea if this has anything to do with anything, but...
Mark Darrah @biomarkdarrah .@evasolfjeld @patrickweekes
Mark Darrah @biomarkdarrah As a lead programmer I was a hammer. Now I'm more like this wrench. Adjustable but basically still a heavy weight for hitting things
PspookySue @pseusue So daniel_Kading & I have created our Dragon Age-themed @rockband crew "Thedas Might Be Giants" . Buy PS4 Rivals & send a request to join!
PspookySue @pseusue tomorrow I’ll post the band names that didn’t make the cut, but here’s a few: Stone Templar Pilots Van Halla Venetori Amos
Daniel Kading daniel_Kading I still like Qunari-O Speedwagon
PspookySue @pseusue ok, here comes some more, ready?
Bann Jovi The Psychedelic Fereldans (would have won but was too long) Huey Lewis & the Nugs
PspookySue @pseusue And my personal 2nd favourite:
The Redcliffe Hot Chili Peppers
PspookySue @pseusue Honorable mention goes to:
BiowArosmith Alistairway to Heaven Varricuda Fleetwood Mac Tir
Liz England @lizardengland For the sake of my sanity... anyone know how many lines of dialogue are in a Bioware game (recent release)?
sebastianhanlon @hanlsp I can’t even remember the ballpark for DAI - help?
Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw From memory, over 50,000 lines of written dialog, with all -player- lines voiced by 4 actors.
Patrick Weekes @patrickweekes IIRC DAI was 525k words, which translated to 53k lines of VO.
Liz England @lizardengland does that include enemy barks / npc convos / etc., or just main character mission dialogue?
Patrick Weekes @patrickweekes That's everything that was recorded by a person, including soundsets. The whole deal.
She is the hold-beast of Stone-Bear Hold. All other bears in the area are mere imitations. Storvacker. How do I even begin to explain Storvacker? Storvacker is flawless. She has two ancient elven trees for claw sharpening and a silver honey dish. I hear that her claws are valued in Denerim at 10,000 sovereigns. I hear that she sells her shed fur to Orlesian master weavers in Val Royeaux. Her favorite story is Hard in Hightown. One time, she met Alistair Therein [sic], fabled warrior of the Fifth Blight, and he told her she was pretty. One time, she clawed me in the face. It was amazing. —From Ruminations upon the Avvar and Their Customs by Reginald de Gorge
Patrick Weekes @patrickweekes Me: I don't want to do a codex entry on the bear. Them: But she needs one. Me: Fine, but I'm doing a weird one, then.
John Epler @eplerjc The people at this job are, most of the time, the absolute best part.
John Epler @eplerjc I love what I do. I love the kinds of things I get to talk about. But it'd be nothing without the people.
John Epler @eplerjc .@patrickweekes , always there to make my bad ideas less bad.
Sanshee @teamsanshee Tomorrow will be remembered as a glorious day for the Inquisition! Dragon Age
Pascual Delgado @moodlefins So when's the new dragon age announcement? @biomarkdarrah
Mark Darrah @biomarkdarrah Would that basically BE an announcement if I told you? A meta-announcement if you will? And thus the moment would be one that instant.
Mark Darrah @biomarkdarrah Short answer: no DA news at this time
Patrick Weekes @patrickweekes Heyyyyyy toolset, just throwing up errors about how you're not crashing YET, but you're THINKING about it and COULD at any time? Cool, cool.
Sylvf @sylvf1 Y'know I've always pictured the toolset responding to any of our pleas or curses with the Nazgul scream from Jackson's LOTR.
Aaryn Flynn aarynflynn Get @biomarkdarrah to do his impression of working on the old BG tools. It is performance art meets slam poetry
Patrick Weekes @patrickweekes Toolset: No man may save before I shut down! Sylvia, Mary, Brianne, Sam, Sheryl, Courtney, Samantha, Jo, Cathleen, Karin, Cori:
Sylvf @sylvf1 Hahaha good god, I WISH.
Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw You know @darkhorsecomics is doing another Dragon Age series? ref: ca.ign.com/articles/2016/10/03/nycc-2016-dark-horse-will-release-new-mass-effect-dragon-age-comics-in-2017 …
So far: really happy with how it's coming along.
Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw And did you notice they mention a DA coloring book in there, too? Coming next February! Because why the heck not! Wooooooo!
Marco G @wtfman999 Are you able to divulge anything at all about the comics? Any plot or plot elements? Thanks.
Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw Nothing just yet. Closer to release? Probably.
John Epler @eplerjc Today has involved two rounds of my favourite game, 'when did I last hit Save'.
David Smith @undyinghunter I watched the 2013 demo again and I'm now super curious. What were the Nasashian Marshes and Southern Desolation gonna be?
Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw They got moved and renamed, basically.
David Smith @undyinghunter so Fallow Mire and Hissing Wastes then, there about?
Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw I’m not 100% sure, but damn close.
Sanshee @teamsanshee We found a really creepy spider in the office today. 🕸🕷
