The concept is a great improvement; it allows you to roleplay without being locked into certain lines like you were in the trilogy. Let's be honest, the dialogue wheel in the trilogy gave you one choice at the beginning of ME1. After that, you were pretty much locked in your path. This is much better.
That said, the execution was pretty poor, because the option you pick has such a small impact.
So I'd say I like the path they went, but they didn't pull it off well.

Well, you weren't locked in if you could put up with occasional jarring tonal shifts from your PC. I can; actually, I don't think I've ever gone purely either way with P/R.

I wonder if you can be consequent, have strong opinions and make any proper black/white decisions, which then reflects in further dialogue and relations.
In ME1-3 for example, Geth shoot on sight, no blabla, AI sceptical, any criminal scum or other enemies be very straight forward to kill them. your team 100% loyal, except in ME2 mistrust everyone but members of your old team like Tali or Garrus.
In DA:O Wardens stand above the law, Loghain is the enemy, not taking anything from him.
In DA2, Mages belong in the circle, no discussion, templar doing the right thing or you become a mage terrorist. The end is always the same, but your path may be different.
In DA:I Mages or templars are bad and later if you want to rebuild the chantry with circle and how it is run or continue martial law in form of the Inquisition.
I mean is there some goal or path you can pursue a trait for your character? When people say you always have all options in dialogues, this sounds like everyone is always neutral.
