Truth of a matter is that we think of purple as Important Color for very prosaic reasons - back in the day blue and red pigments were most expensive and rare ones. This is exactly why blue and red are also considered 'royal' colors - only those who could afford it could surround themselves with it.
And what do you get if you mix red and blue...? Purple is like, doubly luxurious, because to be created it needs both blue and red pigment. Hence now we associate it with Important or Mysterious stuff (who had a lot of money to spend on art and decor aside from kings and nobles? Religious institutions!!).
But anyway... what do we know is red and blue in Thedas universe?
Simple: red and blue lyrium. With blue coincidentally being the 'ancient elfy' color of magic used by Flemythal and Solas and red being the color of the Blight. Question we probably should be asking is what happens if both things get mixed...?

Andre Santos is a level designer at BioWare and has been Tweeting/Instagramming some fantastic shots of Portugal on his vacation over the last few days...
On his "About Me" page, he talks about some of the work he does...
Throughout the course of Dragon Age: Inquisition and the transition to the next generation of consoles I focused my skills on terrain generation, world building and level design. Additionally, I spearheaded a project to create a texture library (similar to CgTextures) and prepare our studio for photogrammetry practices.
Interesting... So now I have to wonder if part of this trip might also be to get ideas for architecture, environments, and to capture textures for use in the next DA. It'll be interesting to refer back to these photos when the new game comes out. Wasn't Antiva or Rivain supposed to be like Portugal?
