Going on previous evidence, the Dragon Age team is more likely to over-correct and end up with different problems than they are to ignore criticism altogether. I mean, look at DAI vs. DA2 and how it handles areas for a glaring example of 'yes, we wanted more than one cave, but maybe not that many caves?' Not that it didn't have merit, but Dragon Age 2 was itself an over-correction based on the complaint that people were "tired of saving the world." It was a narrative quite different from many fantasy stories, which naturally spurred complaints. And of course now I see people wanting a more "personal story." I want them to go back to the Neverwinter Nights style of story: the PC isn't a leader or chosen one, but just a skilled adventurer that is recruited; other people make the decisions and we just go do stuff. It got more epic near the end, obviously, but that's how it was for half of the game.

But then of course some people would complain about being forced to work for someone...

Well in defense of people, there was an overwhelming liking of the Imperial Agent story in SWTOR, and he is both forced to work for various organizations, manipulated, and never advances in ranks.
On the other hand, people did not like Trooper with a simple chain of command, and him being always accountable to his General. And Bounty Hunter/Smuggler, the two independent operators/hirelings with attitudes have their fans and detractors, depending on how much you've like dthe personality.
On the other hand, peeps disliked Consular who was no end of special, but just different in how s/he did things.
The clichéd straightforward stories of rise to power for Knight and Warrior were loved, and I think so was the Inquisitor's (though s/he is kind of weird).
SWTOR really makes an interesting and unique case for the study of the protagonists/story style appeal, because it was eight stories all released at once & everyone having a chance to compare them in the same setting, against the same background. Simple power trip still sells, based on that thought experiment, but a peculiar enough story of a little guy that walks in shadows seem to be able to win hearts too. Everything else is a hit and miss.

It got more epic near the end, obviously, but that's how it was for half of the game. Hmmm... wouldn't be sort of similar, if it turned out that PC for DA4 worked for Inquisition? But then of course some people would complain about being forced to work for someone... Yepper, this is exactly what I want. They're setting it up well with the comics too, with Leliana recruiting Tessa/Marius, and now Charter with Vaea. To me, it solves a host of problems related to the continuation of the larger story that begins in Trespasser. The Inquisitor is shown to be invested, and now we have Knight Errant showing that the shadow Inquisition is still around, doing its thing. It seems natural to me that it be done this way. It also still allows them to have their new protagonist for DA4 (I am under no illusions they will bring back the Inquisitor in anything other than a short cameo), while still keeping to the story and allowing Inquisitor leadership to be off screen. Charter and Harding can serve as Inquisition liaison, with Dorian perhaps acting in an advisory role and using the crystal for direct communication. The new PC can still have relative freedom to recruit their own followers (because this always happens, and was done in NWN as well), as well as other minor decisions pertaining to questing, but the big choices would be left up to leadership, not the PC. Of course, the end result will probably be nothing like this. There will always be people who complain about something. I can only hope for what I want.

Emily pentapod "My QA senses are tingling." #overheardintheoffice I briefly got excited, but then I remembered a post from Allan Schumacher that QA now takes place almost from the very start of 'building'. Which is actually a good thing, of course - but it used to mean they were 'really far into development'....

How can they QA if there's no actual game yet- (sorry if dumb question) or, is there . . . ?

It's BioWare. They never listen or acknowledge criticism. They just whip up another tedious DA game like Andromeda. Look how that turned out...... Going on previous evidence, the Dragon Age team is more likely to over-correct and end up with different problems than they are to ignore criticism altogether. I mean, look at DAI vs. DA2 and how it handles areas for a glaring example of 'yes, we wanted more than one cave, but maybe not that many caves?' The games are mediocre and still pretty boring to play, now they have a choice to step up their game or go home.

Not a full, playable game, but parts of it that can be QA'd. I'm not a dev, but I can think of at least a couple of things that could be tested - maybe new combat system or how AI behaves in given environment and so on.

Yeah, QA starts early in development and just ramps up from there. I'm sure any gameplay they've been prototyping/animations/UI/early level builds/etc. keeps QA busy...

In fact, they've been doing weird things since Magekiller. The only comic series that had normal covers (with characters doing cool shit) were the comics written by David Gaider about Alistair and Friends.

The delay with this issue really messed me up 'cause now I won't get Issue 5, which comes out tomorrow(?) until next month.
