Hmmm. I see some books, a mug, and a mousepad that may have symbols on them that would be clues.

I've read about half of the book, and it's very enlightening if you want more insight on the process of making games, and why certain decisions were made. Honestly, after reading the chapter on DA:I, I'm shocked the game came together as well as it did. It was uphill the whole way with the new engine and having to compensate for the older consoles. The more I think about it, the more I wish I had a time machine to tell Mark Darrah, not to be afraid, and to cast off PS3 and 360 support.

The more I think about it, the more I wish I had a time machine to tell Mark Darrah, not to be afraid, and to cast off PS3 and 360 support. Considering that it was near the end for PS3 and 360, at a time when the new consoles were just coming out and at their highest price point, I think it helped with the popularity and financial success of the game. Not everyone wants to upgrade immediately, and not everyone can afford to do so. While the technical issues related to that decision may have held DAI back, I do believe it helped with the launch of the game. I can't say much about it either way because I'm on PC, but I do feel for those folks. I think the greater mistake was in abandoning support for the DLC. They plan the DLC in advance, so they likely had some idea what they wanted to do with it, and they made the choice to go with certain things that would not be compatible with the limitations of older gen consoles. In the end, though, it may not have been up to Mark Darrah. If the command came from on high that they develop DAI for old and new gen, as well as PC, to take the greatest advantage of the console end-of-life, that's how it would be.

I hate that old gen consoles held the game back so much, and personally wished they hadn't gone with it, it helped it reach a wider audience, and hopefully made them more money (that they can spend on making DA4 the best it can be right? right?!).

Mark Darrah recently said that he wished they hadn't supported the older consoles, and Aaryn also said he wished he had tried harder to kill the support for them. EA had greatly overestimated their importance, as sales of the new consoles took off, and the older consoles made up for just 10% of DAI's sales.

Will PS5 be out by then? I think there's a pretty good chance it will. Will there be a MS response to a PS5? Also a pretty good chance I'd say.

Well, that's just it, no doubt EA/BioWare know of the Sony's and MS's console plans for around the release date of their new games. I expect they will have planned accordingly. I don't expect them to try and support 5+ consoles again in the future.

I don't know about PlayStation, but Microsoft has said they're not doing generations anymore...whatever that means. That was part of the "muddying the waters" I was talking about. MS is moving towards a Universal Windows Platform and their consoles will be more regularly updated. But we're straying OT a bit now, and it's a pretty broad topic...

To be fair no one expected the current console generation to be this successful, even the X1, despite being outsold by the PS4 by a 2:1 ratio, is the fastest selling Xbox console.

KB Bradshaw @realkbbradshaw dorianartbook.tumblr.com @patrickweekes this book could use support and you might want a copy for 'work' purposes. Patrick Weekes @patrickweekes Okay, buckle up. This is going to be super uncomfortable for both of us. First off, these charities sound FANTASTIC, and I wholeheartedly applaud your goal of raising money for them. However, unless I've misread here, you don't actually have a license to use Dragon Age stuff. Generally speaking, and I'm not BizDev, so I don't know all the rules here, but GENERALLY, we turn a blind eye to small things like fan art. But you specifically drawing my attention to it makes it hard to deny that I notice you trying to make money without licensing our stuff. And because you're not going through actual channels, I don't have any proof that the money you raise IS actually going to those charities. So please, please please, keep helping charities, but don't put me in a position where I am legally obligated to tell BizDev about you. Because then they HAVE to send you a C&D, even though, again, the work you're doing here sounds wonderful. If they don't, then if some asshole does this for their personal gain and we try to stop them, they have a case that we didn't enforce. So again, please, don't put devs in that position. Thanks.
