You know in this vein I could see a female Tevinter Magister being a LI for the next game with a sort of very interesting manipulative streak. I'm actually strongly considering going male man for w/e new PC we make in DA4 (all my canon is female so far) and I'd love this kind of option. I’ve actually been alternating the gender of my canon characters, except when I particularly like the option like Solas (tragic romance is a guilty pleasure) EDIT: DAO: Male DAII: Female DAI: Female MET: Female MEA: Male Looking to make a male in DA4 to balance things out. |

I love that it inspires covers like this: But don't actually like Maryden's voice, so I vote for Origins and Iron Zur  I agree on not being in love with Maryden's specific voice. Its not horrible, but she's no Priscilla. (That girl you linked sure is though, Phoray. Nice find.) But they're actual troubadorish songs with lyrics and that wins them points with me. But I basically pick DA:I over the other soundtracks cus of Solas' theme and all the variations of "Dawn WIll Come" throughout the ost. DA 2 and Origins had their own awesome tracks, too, of course. Especially DA2, imo. |

Most Some of Maryden's songs were in fact set to actual mediaeval and Renaissance music (they're pretty much all public property since they're hundreds of years old). While playing DAI, I gained some added amusement from recognizing tunes I first encountered during an Ancient and Mediaeval Music History course that I took as an elective 20 or so years ago. Edited to add an example! Compare Oh, Grey Warden... ...with Unto the Prophet Jonas I Read, a broadside composed around 1615 (the composer's name has been lost to history, sadly). Edited to add: I crossed out "most" because most of her songs were just different takes on original music composed for the Dragon Age games. But the tune of Oh, Grey Warden is indeed from the English Renaissance, and some of the other non-DA tunes are Irish traditional tunes. I made a thread with all the songs whose tunes I could identify. |

My biggest problem with Maryden is that she sounds like she is singing in a highly advanced, insulated, sound booth. Which is, of course, actually the case.
I understand that they want the songs to sound good, but she's singing in a crowded tavern, or open air cafe'. She sound too manufactured and perfect for the setting.
Also the songs just dont fit a tavern. Except Sera's song anyway. I can't imagine a bunch of drunken soldiers merrily singing and drinking along to "Enchanters" or "Empress of Fire".

I've gotten the cookie scene; I don't think Sera is a bad person, I just wouldn't want to hang around with her. I also dislike the dialogue options back at Skyhold after her personal quest, but that's not the character's fault. BUT I will say that I liked how you could give your approval for her pranks to wind people down, even if you don't participate. Even the exact line was perfect for me: "I understand what you're trying to do, it's just not for me." So that was nice. Can't have everything haha. |
