The phrase irritates me. One of the worst pieces of modern lingo, right up there with "bae", "on fleek", "fam", and "woke". Sometimes appears on lists of "stupidest pieces of modern slang" and it wholly deserves its entry. Question: Where did it originate? Answer: America. Reaction: Should've known. To be fair though, it doesn't irritate me nearly as much as the phrase "on accident". Who the hell started that and why? Why, Why, WHY? The well-read gentleman will, of course, prefer, "accidental, done a'purpose." And what is wrong with bae? I think it is a very classy term -- how can it be otherwise? It uses a latin dipthong en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%86 after all. You don't see many slang terms using latin dipthongs these days. And yes, I'm aware of the excellent opportunities for bawdy humor in the noun 'dipthong'.

Oh my, could have sworn Bae was an Asian Stuff fan shorthand of sunabenim. It is a Korean term used to address someone who is older than you in the work force or in an education system. And used all the time in Korean romance dramas involving younger women dating older men (that are still hot, obviously)
Today,I stand corrected.prefer my version, honestly

It really has little to do with latin, and everything to do with gross language habits.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you, but the quote does say 'incorrectly' - the Danish æ isn't a diphthong and hence 'bæ' is pronounced differently from 'bae'. Anyway, mayb(a)e we should make room for more tweets or will this page be remembered as Page 404: Tweet not found?

Being serious now -- everything else I've posted on this digression has, as I hope, been eminently obvious as tongue-in-cheek -- ^this is a statement that needs to be repeated early and often. Language is all about that old Vulcan IDIC.

My theory is they couldn't care less about stuff like pedantry, they're just always smashed off their face and pronouncing that extra consonant is way too much work EDIT: And oh look, now there's one less character to write. H ow awesome is that?!

John Epler @eplerjc I know it's tempting to do so, but games (particularly AAA) are rarely the success or failure of a single brilliant auteur, and trying to make them fit that narrative does no one any credit.
Mark Darrah @biomarkdarrah I mean there’s ME. Wait. What does auteur mean? Is it like scapegoat?

Comparing games with optional romances to mobile game which premise is telling story about love. Ugh They lost me at "Until you decide to commit to a relationship, you are free to flirt with everyone without repercussions, and if you want to end the relationship at any point, you can do so." <- about DAI. While it's true you can flirt, even then it's not always that simple. Blackwall's soft-lock for example. And second part of that sentence is simply not true.

Yeah, and I'm sure the cine people would love to give that to us, but considering Epler had to take effort to tweak the animations for a fem Hawke rubbing their arm in Mark of the Assassin (compared to the male model), I'm going to go and say it's not so simple. We can't even give a platonic hug most of the time if a situation calls for it, much less hold hands. Aaaannd when they did this people cried about ninjamancing. You can pry my icons from my cold dead hands, writer person. This person clearly has no idea wtf they are talking about (as relates to DAI, anyway, I've no idea about the other games). And yes, I totally agree that comparing the optional romances in a game designed around a larger plot to those of a romance-oriented game is a fool's errand. Of course those are going to be "better." But, my argument is that Bioware romances can be more substantive because of the characterization developed in the rest of the game that has nothing to do with the romance content. Consider Solas and how the rest of the game impacts his romance, or Cullen's lyrium addiction, or making Cassandra divine, or the choice you make with Bull's Chargers. Think of the people who want a plot-relevant LI. Hell, I love the fact that, if a follower, I can drag my LI on all of these adventures; listening to Dorian whine about the weather is part of the fun; hearing combat barks of concern from my LI if I get injured is part of the fun. I have no interest in normal dating simulators because that's all they are. I need more meat in my games. DAI allows me to headcanon events that pertain to the romance, but are a actually part of the overall narrative. After all, how a couple goes through and overcomes struggle, how one person supports another, is also a big part of relationships.

In Technomancer, there are multiple flirt options during some chats, and some of them actually lose you approval with the person you like. Not enough that you can never romance them though, but I think it's a feature with promise if Bioware devs looked at it.

There are disapproval points with Cass if you flirt with her during one of investigate options (I think it was tell me about yourself one) and your approval is too low with her, so BioWare's already trying that.

Oh, I meant like... Imagine if the entire left bar were flirt options and the entire right collumn were non flirt options. Among the three Heart Flirt Options, one Cass would like, one Cass would feel neutral about, and one Cass would actually think you're an ass for.
