Yeah, I think they're going to stick close to the Bethesda/Apple model of marketing and only officially announce it a few months before release. Especially after reading Aaryn's comments on how they regretted announcing MEA too soon. I think how they handle the Secret IP's reveal will give us an idea of what we could expect with DA4... I never thought I'd say this but I'd actually be pretty happy with that. I mean, it's 99% sure we're getting another game, and the wait will feel a lot shorter that way (even though it technically isn't). I suppose they'll see about announcing some stuff after MEA and the new IP are out.

I hope not. It is an objectively idiotic marketing strategy. They just need to find the correct balance between showing too much and not showing enough. They got bit in the ass by showing Inquisition way too early with features that eventually had to be cut from the game. Just have a little disclaimer that not all features may be present in the final game. Boom, done. Plus the only reason those things were cut is because it wouldn't work on Xbox 360 and PS3, something they don't have to worry about now. I hope not. It is an objectively idiotic marketing strategy. Bethesda has only proven that this strategy works for games too, given that Fallout 4 sold like freshly baked buns and that no - you don't have to show the product to the world when it's not finished, but keep it under wraps until it's prepared to be released. Now, I'm not going to say that I'm particularly happy that we're going to have to wait and have little to go by, or expect for BW to keep their mouths entirely shut, given that they're well-known for their teasing and clues hidden here and there.... but they think it's a strategy that will benefit them - and given that they got themselves singed when they revealed too much about DAI during development, and with recent debacle around No Man's Sky (where, effectively, the game became a victim of over-hyped expectations based on what was shown or talked about during game's development) - at this point we have no serious evidence whatsoever to suggest that their approach is one that is 'idiotic'. It is nothing more than an uninformed assumption.

The only reason Apple makes it work is because of all the previous products they made. Their earlier stuff got advertised much earlier than they do now. Fallout 4 also sold nowhere near as well as another Bethesda game known as Skyrim, which they advertised much sooner than they advertised Fallout 4. Also quite a few people express regret in buying Fallout 4 because the little information shown didn't accurately portray the game to them. So Fallout 4 was a lucky gamble, and not one that will pay off again with that franchise. And no offense to Bioware, but they are no Apple of Bethesda. Recent events have lost a lot of goodwill among many of their customers, so they need to advertise more since it won't be taken on faith anymore.

It's called common sense. When you want to sell as much of a product as possible, you don't hide it away from the world but show it. I'm sure you know that it's not quite that simple. For one thing, there is competition to consider. We know that major studios have delayed releases so as not to go head-to-head with something they think is going to be popular and pull mind and marketshare away from them. We also know releases have been held back to "catch up" with graphics or other competitive features. Given that reality, you don't want to say too much, particularly about the release date, and trigger the Interwebs shit storm of unfulfilled expectations, and more importantly, Metacritic review bombing. You know gamers can hold grudges. "Not all features may be included in the final release" is better than nothing, but in a way, that's anti-advertising, right? That may reduce pre-orders, which goes against your common sense argument of increase sales at all costs. Personally, I think that's good. I'm coming around to the idea that pre-orders should not go on sale until the game is locked in with close to 0 chance of delay. Good luck convincing EA of that, though. It's a tricky balance. You certainly want to promote the work you are proud of, but you don't want to promote it so much you are setting unrealistic, or even realistic, expectations, when your probability of delivering is less than 95%. No Man's Sky should be the textbook example of this principle, but by no means the only example.

Zillions simply means 'a lot' and if you have to address that, well... it either makes you look humorless or patronizing. Anyway, it wouldn't be called "Apple strategy" if they didn't actively use it or others wouldn't be calling it like that and trying to copy it. And please - while their products don't necessarily change drastically from model to model, don't tell me that the whole Web wasn't abuzz when it was revealed that, again, Apple has decided to do something risky and removed traditional headphone jack. Besides - you've sort of switched the goalpost here. Now you're arguing that the company doesn't necessarily has to announce far and wide that they're working on new product and ostensibly show it to the world thanks to reputation garnered with previous products. As it happens, BW still has a lot of its reputation intact. And no matter how you're trying to spin it, DAI was a commercial success and judging from information on the Web players are eagerly awaiting MEA. Also - Skyrim earned Bethesda 450$ in about a week of sales (7 million copies shipped in first week). Fallout 4 earned 750$mil in 24 hours (12 million copies shipped in first day). F4 broke even GTA5's record. So WTH are you talking about and are you sure you're not confusing Skyrim's total sales from 5 years it was with us? Add to that the fact that the market has changed significantly in those 5 years... And whether there were unhappy customers doesn't matter - that happens whether the game is announced earlier or not. Aside from No Man's Sky which both me and PapaCHarlie9 brought (and which you didn't address) I acutely remember from Skyrim's launch time that there were people were unhappy with it as well, since the game didn't meet some their expectations (seriously, the problem doesn't lie with 'lack of information on the title', because actual, accurate information materializes either AFTER the launch or close to it, when feedback from reviewers and players begins to pour in) and that's despite game's announcement a year earlier. At this point you're just splitting hair on four.

Dark Horse will debut new comics in the worlds of both Mass Effect and Dragon Age, as well as several other projects related to the BioWare franchises, the publisher revealed today. Ahead of New York Comic-Con 2016, Dark Horse has announced the comic book series Mass Effect: Discovery, the first issue of which will be available in spring 2017. Discovery's story is by Mass Effect Andromeda creative director Mac Walers, lead writer John Dombrow, and Jeremy Barlow, a writer on the Mass Effect: Foundation comic series/ Barlow will write Discovery while Gabriel Guzmán is on board as artist for the series. Dark Horse will also release Dragon Age: Knight Errant in 2017. with the first issue going on sale on May 10 of next year. Nunzio DeFilippis and Christina Weir will write Knight Errant, which will have art by Fernando Heinz Furukawa and covers by Sachin Teng Dragon Age Adult Coloring Book will go on sale February 8, 2017. Mass Effect: Discovery is part of what Dark Horse is billing as the Mass Effect Andromeda Program, which, in addition to the Andromeda Galaxy-set Discovery, will also include the Mass Effect Adult Coloring Book, The Art of Mass Effect Andromeda, and Mass Effect Andromeda — The Poster Collection. The coloring book will be available on March 1, 2017, the Andromeda art book will be released on March 21, 2017, and the poster collection will be available for purchase in fall 2017. Yeah, there is no way I would buy that poster collection without knowing exactly what I was getting with every single image. FFS you can look on the back of a calendar and see every single month. It says its 42 pages and you can go to that link and hit the preview to see 4 of those images are the game box cover and three different companion tarot cards: Varric's post-Adamant card, Blackwall's "good outcome to his companion quest" card, and Bull's recruitment card. So, I'd say its a good bet you are getting the tarot cards for companions, and prolly advisors, in poster form, for a total of 33, plus the box art for 34. Prolly the 8 race cards to round it out. Its a guess, but its an educated guess.

"Knight Errant;" interesting. I hope it's better than Magekiller, which was entertaining and started out very strong but essentially turned into a DA:I rehash, which was kind of lazy. I wonder what it's about. It makes me think of a knight enchanter. "Knight Errant;" interesting. It makes me think of a knight enchanter. Seconded, though Knight Errant makes me think of templars. My first thought was this was probably going to be a story of a wandering Chevalier, like Michel de Chevin. But honestly... I like the idea of a story about a Knight Enchanter even more.

The "wandering knight" concept is more along the lines of what I would expect, too, given what kind of figure the Knight Errant from classical literature is. Old Samurai/Ronin films, lone gunman Westerns and Chinese Wuxia films all could be considered to fall into that same category, though. So there's a lot of kinds of stories it could tell, but my guess would be that it'll center around some wandering knight who rights wrongs he/she stumbles across along the way. Or so I would hope, because that genre/character archetype, in case it wasn't obvious, is pretty much my favorite and I'd love to read a comic like that.
