PC Gamer: What minor flaw in a game makes you madder than it should?www.pcgamer.com/what-minor-flaw-in-a-game-makes-you-madder-than-it-should/?utm_content=buffer8e003&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter&utm_campaign=buffer-pcgamertwWhy does this one tiny thing have to be so annoying? That's basically the subject of today's PCG Q&A, where each of the PC Gamer writers discuss their petty grievances with the games they otherwise enjoy.
Jody Macgregor: Arbitrary party size limitsThere's a mod for Dragon Age: Origins that lets your dog be an active party member without having to kick out one of the fully voiced companions. It's essential. Don't make me choose between my dog and my videogame boyfriend, that's cruel and also Alistair might cry. Same goes for Shadowrun: Dragonfall, which is one of the best RPGs around but makes you choose between all of its cool characters and the one who is a bit boring but happens to be a hacker. It's a cyberpunk game, as if I'm going to leave behind Hackerman. Let me bring them all.
I don't care if the fights are longer or it makes some of them trivial, I just hate having to play favorites with my imaginary friends. Some of our nostalgia for old school RPGs is misplaced, but having your entire party available all the time is one thing I do miss about them. I will fight for my right to parties of six or more characters.- Personally, having 6+ party member might be a bit unwieldy for an entire game, unless it's turn-based. That said, I do love those big cinematic moments when it's "all hands on deck", like in the battle of Denerim in DA:O. It'd be great to have a moment (or two, or three...) like that in DA4. Even if you're just controlling 4 and the rest are AI controlled. [HASH]DAT

Huh... now that I think about it, I don't recall that there is any lyrium singing sound in the games. It just seems to be described by people, but never heard by the player (even, for example, in a cutscene from Bartrand's POV). There's a quiet kind of high pitched humming from the big blue pillars in the hinterlands, on the way to the mage HQ cave. Those same blue pillars are in the astrarium treasure cave in the storm coast, so I think they're supposed to be lyrium, not just magic ice? Not 100% on it, but yeah. i heard a sound effect to them. Might be considered "singing"? There's quiet humming from every red lyrium deposit we encounter (heard better if we position camera close enough), though I'm not convinced that Storm Coast thing is lyrium... on the other hand, Storm Coast IS where the Titan is located and there are strange sounds all over that region. There's also a much more noticeable mysterious sound/hum in the huge lyrium chamber in Descent.

Anyone finding that comment amidst happy-ish words really jarring? Cool, a eurojournalist (well, UK anyway) taking a dig at panhandlers in San Francisco. Must be payback for all the US digs on the royal wedding, like showing the Queen cringing over the Reverend Curry's sermon.

I wonder if there ever isn't was a time where a rumor was spread that caused panic but they felt they were incapable of saying anything to calm people down without revealing too much. Must feel pretty bad to see people worked up and anxious over something that's not even true. FTFY.

I can relate. I've never played NWN2 without using the console commands to increase my party size to include a spot for everyone (11? 12? companions). Makes getting into tight quarters a bit of a challenge but I never miss a banter or a comment or a quest component because I didn't bring the "right" person with me. So much snark in that game - I love it.

Even if you're just controlling 4 and the rest are AI controlled. Yes! I like that DAI kind of acknowledged this, though. IIRC everybody acts like they were there when Corypheus fell (and maybe like they were all at the Winter Palace?) and I liked that, even if they weren't there according to the game mechanics... I do the same thing with NWN2! Love that game. The arbitrary party limit makes even less sense in the MotB expansion, where your limit is.... one less than your total number of companions. I always cheat to add the final member because it makes no sense for you to leave ONE person behind. Also I love every companion from that expansion. Wizard waifu, Gann the mann, Rainbow Brite, Kaelyn my love...

I've made designs that some people have made tattoos from and am still amazed some have decided to put them permanently on their skins. But I myself will probably not get a tattoo unless they're easily (and cheaply) removable or modifiable because the issue with me is that at some point I'd be itching for something new

I've seen a lot of fantastic DA tattoos, actually. I've thought about getting one but I'm cheap and indecisive, two characteristics that make tattoos a bad idea. They had a bunch of pre-designed ones at a con years back and pics were posted here. I really liked the bee grenade one. Not only was it very well done on the person, but was generic enough to not instantly read "game tattoo" while also being readable to any fellow DA fans that might see it. I thought it worked on multiple levels and made for a good conversation starter. Plus, it was just nice art. Other than the issues you mention is the fact that our flesh bags eventually wear, so the tattoo will as well. I'd be kind of bummed to look down at my fav tattoo one day and suddenly notice that it was faded and fuzzy. I know you can get touch-ups, but still.
I know what I'd get (DA related), but I'd have to have the person draw it for me from my description, as I have no skills. Even then, I'd be afraid of regretting it 10 years down the line.

It's really cool that you've designed things that eventually became tattoos. I've seen a lot of fantastic DA tattoos, actually. I'll have to Google that bee grenade! I worry about regret, too. But even if you don't feel the same way about whatever it is ten years down the line (favorite game, favorite song, etc.) it's a nice memory of where you used to be in life and what was meaningful to you then. Personally I've thought of some kind of lowkey Sera/Red Jenny tribute, something with deepstalkers 'cause I love them, the Kirkwall or Hawke family crest. They're all pretty kewl. 👀

or strangers I in no way want near me, let alone drawing things on my skin Damn... that's a bit judgemental. Tattoo parlors are regulated by law, just as any other business. Many will open a fresh needle pack in front of you, or do so when asked. There are levels to their quality, just as there are with any other service. Whether it's a high-end salon staffed by hot-pink-haired punky stylists, or a parlor with similar-looking artists, you get what you pay for. The first step for anyone interested in getting a tattoo would be to find a reputable business, look at their website, read testimonials, look at samples of their work, and so on. I wouldn't at all mind getting a tatt from someone who looks at home in a goth rock band if they have 10+ years of experience under their belt and do quality work.

It just seems to be described by people, but never heard by the player (even, for example, in a cutscene from Bartrand's POV). That's because BioWare doesn't want to infect its players with the Blight or introduce it to our world. We've got enough problems to deal with already.

Stephanie Brayall @sbrayall@patrickweekes was the Morrighan'nan/dwarfson tale foreshadowing what could of happened w/ Morrigan and her son or was Mythal possessing Morrighan’nan at the time? That explains why Flemeth was surprised when Morrigan chose her son over herself. was Mythal Tyrdda’s spirit lover? Patrick Weekes @patrickweekesSpooooooooilers! Sorry, this reads as a lot of nonsense. Is it referencing something?
The Morrighan'nan/Dwarfson tale is the one the Ash Warrior tells if you ask him about it at Ostagar.

There's a whole saga we can complete in DAI and when we do we get Tyrdda's Staff from it. Some folks have theories about it.
