Seems like they are changing the name basically cus people were confusing it up with Qunari, though they are going to have an in-lore reason for it being different.
I think his last comment was the most telling (it was too close to Qunari). It could be somewhere we're going (or even just mentioned) in DA4, so they're addressing that now to head off any future confusion.
Yeah, I'm starting to get that. I'll refrain from being super assholey about it, but the change does not please me. Retcons suck, and the reason for this one is lame.
Now all mentions of it everywhere are wrong, including war table operations like "A friend in Qarinus."
I get you don't like it and I respect that, but it doesn't bother me. Cities do change their names, it's not something unusual.

I don´t think this the Case.
In DAI / 9:41 Qarinus still have the name Quarinus but in 9:43 Qarinus have changed it.
Don´t forget Tevinter is still fighting the Qunari maybe this would explain this patriotic chance.
Its a retcon but in Wars its not unlikely that Name had changed.
Many Americans/Brits for example have altered their german name.
Nobody want to remember that before 1917 Royal House Windsor was called Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.
Read the tweet more carefully: "In-game: Been like that for decades, celebrating an old Tevinter victory on the Ventosus Straits. City name change, yo."
So yeah, everything that has taken place for the past few decades is wrong. Dorian wouldn't even think of his home as Qarinus within that time frame, and it sure as hell wouldn't be the name for the city in Those Who Speak comic.

Sorry you are Right. Thats lazy Writing.
I have thought that they use a smarter way for the change.

Too easy.
This is also a mess like what happened to your Avatar Executor Pallin
Would’ve been simpler to change the spelling to Karinus.
Funnily, I think it would actually be more difficult to explain the change of spelling in-game than full name change to honor a historical figure/victory.
As it was noted, cities do change names. Saint Petersburg is a good example - from Sankt-Peterburg to Petrograd to Leningrad and back to Sankt-Peterburg in the span of less than a century.

I don't think it's lazy, but I also don't like that they're coddling the players and treating them like morons.
If people are being consistently confused, they aren't treating them like morons by changing it - not everyones like us and follows the lore obsessively, and changing the name of something that such a small thing and has barely been featured just to make it clearer for some players is not a big deal.

It's not uncommon for places that change names to be simultaneously referred by old and new name for decades after change. IRL, we know that people talk about Istanbul if they mention Constantinople and that name hasn't been an official name of the city for almost 80 years.

But we don't know that that's an actual, current problem that players at large have. They could be anticipating that eventuality. And while I agree that it is a possibility, I still don't think it should be changed just for that reason.
What gets to me most is that's it's retroactive for the past few decades. If this were based on a victory in 9:45 or something (we know the Qunari are going to be stepping up their attacks in Tevinter anyway), I would have much less of an issue.
I'm done ranting about the issue now. I don't like it, but nothing I say matters. The change is done.

I'm guessing it's something that came back in feedback like how in tutorials odd tips are added that regular video game players know from second nature as enough people didn't know the info and came stuck - like I think there was a recent one in Gods of War were they put text pointing out this was the Bosses Health bar - it's always someones first video game or in this case there's always someone coming across Dragon Age lore for the first time. The question is where did they get the feedback from? Was it feedback from the released Dragon Age Inquisition or was it feedback from testing on a new game that perhaps heavily focused on the location and also featured Qunari at the same time.......
retrospective: Fascinating. Dorian does not know from which city he comes from.Or is he a notorious liar?
... Or both old and new name exists simultaneously and thus no lying is needed. Such things happen, IRL too. And if rest of Thedas is used to calling Ventus as Quarinus, they'd call it Quarinus and thus Dorian would probably do so to, to his exclusively non-native friends during his ventures abroad. It's not a stretch to imagine that things or names get updated in people's collective mind slower than it does over here, and even we on occasion still use old names for places that have been renamed decades ago (like Istanbul/Constantinople mentioned above).
Out of Game: Bioware thinks their players are stupid.
One doesn't have to be stupid to confuse or misread things, especially if there's a ton of info to absorb. Don't forget that folks like us, who pore over stuff and can cite even obscure in-story fatcoids, are in minority. If they didn't notice that enough people had a problem with that, they probably wouldn't bother.

There is enough Time to change it. The Comic isn´t out yet.
I don´t think they change it back to Qarinus but they could find a better explanation.

You are probably right. I still using Konstantinopel.

Really Dukemon? Why?
"Königsberg" instead of "Kaliningrad" for example i would understand.
But Constantinople i have thought only use historians.
Istanbul is naturalized in 2018.
Friend... not all here come from where you do. In my country people casually use three names for Istanbul: Istanbuł, Stambuł and Konstantynopol.
... And only today I learned that Saigon changed its name to Hồ Chà Minh in '76 It's still in wide use here because 'Saigon' is synonymous with 'mayhem' in colloquial speech among locals.

Patrick just chimed in again on the name change to the city of Ventus...
Patrick Weekes @patrickweekes Might be a recent change then. We went back and forth while figuring out what to do.
In response to me giving him shit.
Ghast Whisperer thats1evildude I’m actually offended by this change. It’s Qarinus in both the lore books, it’s Qarinus in Those Who Speak and it’s Qarinus in DAI. Now you’re changing lore to accommodate morons? What other changes can we expect to be made on a whim?
If it had been a recent change due to a change in government, that’d be one thing. But to say it’s been that way for decades is just insulting. Or does my opinion not matter because I can tell the difference between words with similar syllables?
I’m not going to harass Patrick over this, but I couldn’t let this go without voicing my displeasure.

Do not trust to hope. It has forsaken these lands.
Wow, I couldn't care less about the name changing, I'm just so grateful we're getting new comics from the same team that did Knight Errant.
Right!? We have something! (other than 'Varric's' book next month)
....Though I can't help to be amused by choice of name for the main character: Olivia PRYDE? Gosh, I have to admire just how brazenly unsubtle Bioware can be sometimes

TBH... my first thought ran to Kitty Pryde (from the X-Men).
