I love how close-knit the DA team is, even after people move on to new things.

Yeah, really. Writers sometimes write just for themselves. Dorian is a character he's deeply connected to that has a lot of meaning for him, so it makes sense that he would want to visit the character again. But unlike an official capacity where he would have to be vague about certain details relating to canon -- just as were shown with Asunder and The Masked Empire with certain details -- he can throw all that out the window and have the events be whatever he wants them to be, his own personal canon.

Many many writers have unpublished pieces, whether that is because they're saving them for later, they're just ideas to explore, they're too personal, they're "practice," or whatever other thing. I've written some things just to get them out of my head, some of which are just fragmented, unfinished ideas, that are not meant to be read by anyone else. I know I'm not alone in doing this.


Further on in the Twitter thread, he states that he's not even sure that it will be published. Depending on what he writes, there is a real risk he would get harassment over it. That wouldn't be right, but it's naive not to foresee that possibility. It's entirely possible he will want to avoid all that mess and keep this as something for his own self.


And this is precisely why he might not bother to publish it at all, anywhere.

For people that don't get this, it's a reference to the anime Yuri on Ice, which is about figure skating and features an actual m/m relationship. The Japanese are really big into anime about sports.

When I say "actual" I mean it's a thing acknowledged in the show, not just some highly suggested yaoi fangirl servicing.

If he wants to share but doesn't want the attention, he should do like the rest of us and make an AO3 account under something other than his own name. (Which wouldn't necessarily stop people flaming him, but it would certainly cut down on any dog piling. He'd just be another person posting fanfic on the internet.)

Well, sure. I personally would never hassle Gaider or Laidlaw or anyone about DA (unless saying 'thank you for being involved in making games I love!' counts as hassling) or their fanfic (unless I liked it and wanted to say 'good job'.) I just know how fandom works. There is no way that David Gaider could post fanfic under his own name and not have it turn into A Thing. It's stupid and unfair, but that's the internet for you.
