So I went ahead & applied, don't have a snowball's chance in hell, but thought "hey, what's the worst that could happen?"

I recall a discussion or tweet on here about how Bioware was stuggling to finish or complete Dragon Age Origins for financial "may have to close" reasons when EA bought them out, demanded an Archdemon and the rest is history. Did I imagine that?

An "EA ruined Bioware" person I just started seeing demands a citation.

I vaguely recall this story as well but I'm not sure where exactly. Still since phoray also remembers it I obviously wasn't dreaming. Could it have been something that DG said at some point?

From what I recall, DAO was originally going to focus more on political intrigue but it was felt (not necessarily by EA) that there needed to be a more "traditional" destroy the world villain, which is where the arch-demon came from. For a time the means of killing it was just going to be a special weapon but then they came up with the way to get rid of it that required the Grey Wardens specifically. From that came the ultimate sacrifice and dark ritual in order to avoid it. It is because this wasn't originally part of the plot that some of the details don't seem awfully well thought through, particularly why the dark ritual will work. Then they muddied the waters even further with the survival of Corypheus.

It would seem that DA2 was the original team trying to prove that a story-line that didn't involve a save the world scenario could be just as interesting and well received. Unfortunately, because of the rushed development time it seemed like it wasn't, when many people agree that there was nothing wrong with the two main plot threads in DA2; it was the technical execution that was the problem.

Then it was back to the over-arching save the world scenario with DAI, although again I would have said that, like DAO with the arch-demon, the bits involving Corypheus (particularly if you took the mage route) were the least interesting parts and it was everything else that contributed to the enjoyment of the game.

All are basically from the same source and talking about the same thing but the gist is EA's acquisition saved BioWare from bankruptcy and enabled them to produce more games post-acquisition (10/2007).

...Honestly have no idea what the rationale for that statement could be.

It seems strange to resent a company for making games you don’t like so much you want them to cease to exist. It’s not like them ceasing to exist would bring more of the games they do like into existence.

 He likes Mass Effect 2, Destiny 2 and Red Dead Redemption 2, I have no idea which Dragon Age would ever appeal to such a person to recommend first because I thought ME2 was okay, I have no interest in D2, and I tried and got bored with RDR2 inside an hour. At least he liked HZD, saving grace? -rhetorical question*
