BioWare @bioware Happy Mead Day! Let us raise a goblet of Chasind Sack Mead in a toast to the marriage of yeast, water, and honey that delivers one of the oldest and most-loved fermented beverages in the world. #MeadDay
Patrick Weekes @patrickweekes This was an interesting interview, and some really wonderful company to be included in.
Addendum: I clarified that I wasn’t a lead on Dragon Age: Inquisition, but it looks like because I’m lead writer now, they listed me as lead then. The lead writer on DAI was @davidgaider, and I was honored to be one of his minions.
David Gaider @davidgaider It’s hard to explain to non-industry people how work is divided on big teams. They often think “x person wrote it”, as in the *entire thing*, so a lead often gets credited way too much.
Ben Gelinas @bengelinas I created (with @nthornborrow) and wrote a large portion of both World of Thedas books, based on an internal lore wiki I also largely pulled together. But please never ask me deep lore questions on the spot. I wrote that shit down so I didn’t have to remember everything.
Dragon Age has a lot of lore and that is partly why it is so special I think. There’s a whole world in there. With each game and story, you get to see a part of it. But you know there’s a lot more going on you might never live to see. Cuz Thedas is pretty dangerous sometimes.
Imperator Furiåsa @devilkitten "We had to file a bug on one of the corpses yesterday." @sjosz drops a corpse quote, one that you'll only hear in game dev. And if you hear it outside of game dev.... eek.
Thanks for all your responses and stories about the Dragon Age Keep! You all are amazing. Now I'll go find a wheel of cheese and send you more questions later. #Thanks
DragonMelissaBow and arrowJanowiczDragon face deedlite Had a fantastic week - feels great to work with a fantastic team to create something that I can tell already is going to be really special.

Sanshee @teamsanshee We're working on bringing back some of our wonderful #DragonAgeInquisition coasters! What series would you like to see included in the restock? See images below, and don't forget to check out our other officially licensed DA:I merch!
Looks like we'll have a female qunari companion, there's a warden named Davrin around in some capacity and the mention of being a story where we dont have any power sounds like we're not the Inquisitor. Especially with that Solas line.

John Epler @eplerjc Anyways. I'm excited for what's to come, thrilled we could share a tiny glimpse at what we're working on, and can't wait to share more.
Still largely away from Twitter because I'm choosing to focus my energy into more concrete actions, but I love y'all.
Other behind-the-scenes - they asked me to look off into the distance for a full three minutes for footage of me looking introspective and heroic.
Behind-the-scenes for the DA video, the makeup artist said I have very good skin and that she loved my outfit.
David Gaider @davidgaider Every time I did one of those, the makeup artists would gather around me, clucking with concern as they discussed how to prevent my forehead from glowing like a lighthouse beacon.
Gabe Heiland @norseartemis VERY uncomfortable with how heroic they made my coworkers look in this. I have to go to meetings with them and since they shot this can confirm they just speak in weighty phrases while staring into the middle distance. #DragonAge #gamescom2020
Karla Pacheco @thekarlapacheco All my Dragon Age pals staring at the new concept art like it's a Tinder profile.
David Gaider @davidgaider I think I heard the DA fan community convulse as they prepared their arguments for why they have been unjustly denied a romance with a silhouette.
And... hmm. I get to play a DA romance, for the first time with cutscenes working and everything? What a novel thought.
Patrick Weekes @patrickweekes Oh, crap. People are gonna expect there to be romances.
David Mergele @elegrem I will add it if you don't. You have been warned. #ProgrammerRomanceCutscenes
Wil Sterling @shadowvasterra I dont mean to alarm anyone Patrick, but I think we're gonna expect Dragons too.
Patrick Weekes @patrickweekes Oh no. Oh shoot.
(Opens blank Word doc, writes “Stuff we forgot” in bold at the top, then stares at it for a solid minute before changing “forgot” to “4got” and save-exiting in panic)
Patrick Weekes @patrickweekes A word about concept art:
Much like box-art creatures help devs get an early feel for gameplay, concept art helps devs get an early feel for MOOD.
If the mood of concept art you're seeing excites you, cool! But please don't get attached to, or hung up on, specifics.
These two images, for example. I freaking love them. The first (and I say this as a fumbling non-artist) explores presenting characters as iconic heroes. The second puts characters into exaggerated comic-book hero poses. That doesn't mean either is the art style for our game.
There are characters in the concept art who have since been cut, or changed significantly, or were never intended to be major characters to begin with. There are major characters who didn't exist yet when these pieces were made.
I say all this not to dampen anyone's enthusiasm -- seriously, seeing people's reactions made yesterday the best day in 2020 for me -- but to remind people that this whole video was, like the concept art, made to show folks our MOOD, our feel, not the actual specifics.
We can't answer questions right now about who is or isn't a follower or what story choices we're making. Beyond giving away too much too early, we could also give you the wrong impression and leave you disappointed later. Or we might need to change things between now and ship.
What I can say is that I personally am proud and excited about the game we're making. I hope that came through in the video. I also hope you have fun speculating, even if we can't answer questions right now. You all made a lot of devs' days yesterday. Thanks.
(special thanks to our community manager for this one)
Alain Baxter @alainbaxter Hey! That’s exactly how we do it! Is someone sharing our secrets? Thinking face At least they don’t know about the Flying spiders... oops!
Melissa Janowicz deedlite Well at least they don't know about the spiders with the tentacles for legs... Or the spiders with 16 legs and human feet, and every foot has a different type of shoe on... Or the armored water spiders with shells on... Or the... Wait a minute...
Gabe Heiland @norseartemis 1 - I’m hiring for my team 2 - The recruiter asked me to make a google form for feedback 3 - I have discovered that you can turn google forms into quizzes.
So...I hope the folks on the interview panel are as committed to getting a high GPA as I still am.
Mary Kirby @biomarykirby ...can you make the google form into a "which character are you" quiz? Because I feel like that might be super useful for hiring purposes.
Gabe Heiland @norseartemis HR might have some words for me when the data returns that I only interview Solases
