For those interested in hearing more of the reasoning behind Heroes of Dragon Age shutting down, an awesome DA fan gave me a heads-up on this from the official HoDA Discord:


A big reason behind the decision to shut down is simply that the tech is so outdated that they cannot further upgrade it, so it's subsequently out of compliance with the requirements needed to keep being listed on app stores. Basically, they either choose to shut down or the app stores would do it anyway.

They did try and spent the last 2 years attempting to upgrade the engine to keep up with the changing requirements, but they were changing so fast they could not keep up. Every time they got close, Google, Apple, or Facebook released a new requirement that basically threw a wrench into everything and essentially would have to start over.

For these reasons they can't create an 'offline' version of the game either (they'd have to make so many changes to an engine that can't be released publicly).

The new game download login bug was just the tip of the iceberg, and between Facebook randomly updating its API one day so that they couldn't use Facebook Login anymore, and then the forever-loading screen bug on iOS and Android, it was too much.

They aren't making any further updates to the game at this time and in-app purchases have been disabled because it's a requirement for the sunset process (they have to be disabled a certain amount of time before the app is removed from the stores and the servers are then shut down). The sunset announcement is basically the 'hard stop' on development.

They've done what they could to make everything available using the in-game currency.

Porting the game to PC would take more time and resources than they have and would still have the same base engine issues mentioned above.

They don't know of any plans for another Dragon Age mobile game, but that doesn't mean that definitively there won't be one (it's just not something they have info on).

An awesome DA fan gave me the heads-up on an upcoming Netflix Geeked "Toon In" Twitch Episode that will focus on Dragon Age Absolution.

It was announced at the tail-end of their previous episode, "We will be here on December 1st and it's gonna be Dragon Age Day so make sure you tune in to Toon In, we're gonna have a whole bunch of cool surprises, so thank you so much guys"

Likely an advance preview of the first episode, with possible interviews, etc. This may have been what they were referring to in the blurb for the last trailer, "PS: if you’ve read this far, see you on Dragon Age Day. Or maybe sooner!"

December 1st, 5pm PST.
