Hmm, if I had an public Twitter I would ask Patrick about the "Tears in the Veil" quest from Awakening where you disable elven apparatuses from within the Fade and it repairs the veil tears in the regular world. It was probably just another lore oversight but it'd be interesting to know what if what Solas said was absolutely true or not

Regarding the ancient elven artifacts, I've often wondered since November 2015 when I finished Trespasser if Solas might not be completely lying about them, as some fear. Perhaps he is explaining them in a way that would make sense to our Inquisitors, who have lived their entire lives in a world with a Veil, and for the Andrastian ones, at least, who can't really conceive of a world without a Veil, since "the Maker made it when he made the world."

I can imagine ancient elves using such devices to render some stability for building structures in a world that is half-Fade, and therefore not likely to really allow for permanent, non-mutable buildings. We find a lot of the devices in ancient elven ruins, which would bear this idea out. Perhaps those structures weren't destroyed when the Veil was drawn because they were actual physical structures, while the crystal spires Solas tells us about were lost because they were made from the stuff of the Fade and couldn't be maintained in a world with a Veil.

The other option is that they were made by the ancient elves, but not the Ancient Elves, if you get my meaning. In this case, they might have been made by the elves who survived the Veil going up - since the name of the quest is "Measuring the Veil" and its follow up war table operation, "Measure Veil Strength", actually uses the measurements and turns them into a useful GIS tool for the Inquisition to locate more Veil tears. Knowing where the Veil is thinner might have been important to ancient elves who suddenly lost their connection to the Fade. I can imagine ancient elven scientists trying to figure out if living in places with a thinner Veil might grant them easier access to their former magic and possibly their immortality.

Was the twitter person who asked about the Solas objects someone who has asked questions in the past. I cant believe nobody has ever questioned this. Makes you wonder if solas telling us those feel good fade stories were also misleading

With regard to those ancient artefacts, it also occurred to me to wonder that if they strengthened the Veil, who turned them off and why? I definitely think they had something to do with his action in raising the Veil. May be they were activated by his followers just before he took his action and were designed to assist him in creating the Veil in the first place. Then once it was done, they could be de-activated. May be he was even the one who did so, hoping that taking away the force field they created would allow magic to come through sufficiently to mitigate the worst effects of the Veil. However, he discovered he was wrong and it didn't help at all, so he realised his only option was to take a nap and let his orb re-charge.   Obviously he didn't want Corypheus to succeed in tearing the Veil because it wouldn't be in the fashion that Solas wanted, so that would account for him encouraging you to use them to strengthen it.  

I can't believe they had that whole quest, with PW actually keeping us informed when he was testing the game that he was detecting them (without actually telling us what the thing was he was finding) and it never occurred to any of the Devs/writers/testers to ask if it was relevant to the overall story arc. That is a pretty major sub-plot to be merely a "plot hole".   However, if he was only trying to stop Corypheus, then it might not be that relevant to the future plot, since if he no longer needed them, he could just get his followers to go round and switch them off again.   That isn't a plot hole, it's just the writers not bothering to tell us, which is simply annoying.
