To be honest, the very spare description sounds almost like an Overwatch-type of game. They're talking about "bring[ing] players together in exciting new ways," that it will be "something fun and new for you to enjoy with your friends," and that the "game has the potential to fundamentally disrupt the way people think about an action title, bringing friends together to play in exhilarating new ways." That they are "crafting a new universe full of new characters, stories" doesn't really mean anything in terms of game type. Overwatch has its own unique characters, universe, lore, and all of the game supporting background information. It just so happens that the core of the game is competitive multiplayer where all of that background doesn't have any meaning in the game itself. All of the Overwatch story components are found outside of the actual game in comics and short videos and such. I am so not interested in any way shape or form. It's disappointing. Yet they also spoke of maintaining the "RPG Character development and story progression of Bioware" so I wouldn't despair just yet.

Stats and classes and all that is just a way to describe certain parts of the character and can easily be switched out for another mechanic. Me too, but for some people stats and classes are what make the RPG. So it's really not clear here what they means when they say it isn't an RPG yet retains elements, it's a vague classification.

Its kind of funny they are calling it a secret ip at badically a stockholder meeting. Bethesda also might have a secret ip. It seems to have some type of mmo smell based on early reports
No mention of da4 is a real bummer. Is the longest they have kept writers on site with no project due. Do they even get time to test ideas against the engine? Say they wanted/write in griffon riders that can pickup darkspawn and drop them. Do they get time to see if its feasable

Feasible in terms of tech or feasible in terms of 'is it fun'? Yes.I'll address both then For tech, whenever an idea is pitched, whether by Art, Writing, Design, Puppies...etc. it usually (ideally?) gets asked or comes with some kind of implementation cost. This will be something like: "...and it can be done with tech used in X", or "...but we'll need to modify Y to get it to work", or, in the worst cases "...but I have no idea how it will work though it seems like it should be easy to make" (it never is). Hopefully after consulting, at least briefly, with a programmer (or whomever needs to build the tech) you get a rough idea of the cost and then the higher up folks make a call whether it's worth it or not. For example, gryphon flying and dropping enemies might be super cool BUT if the cost is too high it won't get done (or hopefully even started). For fun, the ideal scenario is we build a prototype of what the experience would feel like with as minimal cost as possible so if it gets cut/abandoned it's not much of a loss. Unfortunately some features require the game to be in a much more complete state for the 'prototype' to be able to prove whether it is enjoyable. For example, if you wanted to pitch a really cool mechanic in MP combat your game needs to have functional combat (ideally in an MP environment but not necessary). In these cases you'd likely have an ideal combat scenario that is already proven to be fun that you would add to and evaluate against. All that said... those are ideal conditions, sometimes due to time and headcount constraints ideas just get created and thrown in and a developer hopes it works out

Wasn't pinning my hopes on the new IP anyway, but still... multiplayer-focused. Yeuch. If there's a good, solid story and characters (and I suspect there will be, because Bioware) I'll probably soak up the lore, but it doesn't sound like anything I'm interested in playing.
Bummed that there hasn't been an official announcement about DA4. Or even some leaks that are definitely related to the game and not supplementary material.

Emma 'Rin' Gallagher @babemroze So me and my friend came up with something we'd love to see in a DA game. A quest where all your companions are there..cont.. like at the winter palace for e.g. & you have to select one member to carry out certain tasks. Like "You need someone..cont.. to distract the guards. Select a member of your party & you have to chose the best person. Like if it was in DAI best..cont.. to choose Dorian if you want a suave distraction. Or Sera if you want a big distraction. And you get different outcomes.
