I have had the idea for a while that it would be cool if they: Made us think we were working secretly for the Inquisition, but it turns out halfways through that we have really been working for Solas, and then we spend the rest of the game trying to fix the mess we helped create. I'm afraid people would get really pissed, if they did that, though! Actually, that's not a bad idea. I would be really pissed, but for the right reasons, and at the right person: SOLAS (that is, not Bioware).
I think that, as long as it's done in a way that our character could be totally innocent in everything, just an unwilling dupe, AND that we can work toward fixing it, it might be okay.
I think there is precedent for this with Trespasser stating that the Inquisition had both Qunari and elven spies. While he sucks at planning, with little care or foresight as to how his plans affect thousands or millions of lives, or the terrible consequences for the future, he IS good at manipulating events and people. I can certainly see him setting things up in such a way that the new PC works for the Inquisition, perhaps to thwart the Qunari in the first act, but that it works only to a point, after which everything is revealed and Solas himself emerges as the new enemy in the second act and the plot takes a dramatic shift.
There is a very high potential for drama here.
Geez, the more I think about it, the more I'm liking the idea! I'd be more frustrated at having to switch from helping Solas especially if i was an elf again. |

I've had it since the first time I played Trespasser, and I'm afraid I'll get too attached to it, and be disappointed when that's not what they do in DA4.  I was thinking we would start as a slave or servant in Tevinter, and then we'd get involved in a slave uprising while at the same time dealing with the Qunari invasion. |

Clarity: I don't see us moving away from specifically gay folks, but romances might be combo of party members and advisors.

I'd be more frustrated at having to switch from helping Solas especially if i was an elf again. I take your response to be that your PC would be an elf who agrees with his (purported) views and wants to help him bring down the human world. If that's not the case, then never mind, but that is how I read your post.
The point is that you're not supposed to be aware you're helping him in the first place. Perhaps he isn't even a presence in that part of the game. In that situation, the PC wouldn't be in a position to want to help Solas, because they don't know that he is there to help, or what his agenda is.
I suppose it could be that such an elf PC, after finding out about Solas, wants to stick to his side and continue on helping, with full awareness. However, I don't think that is a realistic expectation for a game path because of how divergent that is. They would likely portray it similar to the Blackwall situation, as the PC was lied to regardless of their feelings on the matter, or heck, similar to his manipulation of the Inquisitor and the Anchor. Also, his plan would probably be shown to cause great harm to the world as a whole, so the plot then shifts to another world-ending calamity, and it's in the PC's best interest to stop it, regardless of their personal feelings on elves, humans, magic, and all the rest.
I take your point, but the game can't be all things, to all players, while still having a complex narrative that carries on into future games. And we've derailed the thread enough with this, so I'll end in there. |

Let's see who I can recall: -Young Free Marcher and the black scout by the horses -Charter and Scout Pellane -Lysette and the other Templar -Two soldiers, one of whom is a woman but speaks with a man's voice (is that it?) -Pro-mage Chantry sister and pro-Templar Chantry sister -Two healers, one of whom rides the Bull -Female and male solider, the latter of which fancies Sera (poor bugger) -Carta dwarf and female solider who speaks with male voice (another example?) -Apprentice blacksmith -Tranquil who used to talk to dragons -Segritt's helper -Dark-skinned barmaid -Scout and Carta dwarf who admires Blackwall -Turban-wearing elf and Chantry sister -Hooded guy and Chantry sister |

It seemed to me that PW was referring to dialogue where it would be plain, or at least hinted, that the character was gay or bi. Many of those you listed are just people of the same sex having conversations and have no romantic or sexual overtones, like Lysette and the templar, or the two soldiers by the trebuchet.

Yeah, I don't really think it works that way  |

Yeah, I don't really think it works that way Well, I tend to think there is truth in jokes. I think in this case it speaks to a willingness to think about him dismissively. So while they probably aren't going to have things amount to Solas just being a big dummy, I have reservations about how things are going to turn out if they are thinking dismissively on some level. It is possible to undermine someone in more subtle ways. Hopefully you are right though  Also sorry for cluttering your thread hrungr |

the DA games, and am excited to see any more that may exist in the future! Since I won't ever get to gaymerx, just wanted to drop a tweet that I hope maybe in the future some of the chantryish characters might be LGBTQ+? I know Leliana is, but also she's someone who might, you know, assassinate someone in their sleep? As someone raised fundie the absence of more kind of reinforces what that group of churches claims about folks like me but my faith IS important to me
