Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw So, let’s reflect on cons for a moment. Prompted by PAX West 2016, but just in general.
Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw What I love about cons is that they generally represent the best chance for me to meet people who have played my games face to face.
Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw Shake a lot of hands, smile lots, that kind of thing. Yet every time there’s some story that’s equally heart wrenching and heart warming.
Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw “I played your game to get through chemo. Your game let me forget some close to me is gone, and he/she would have loved it, too.”
Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw Or, in some cases, “your game helped me feel normal when I don’t always get to do that.”
Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw And I don’t feel that’s an experience only for Bioware games. I think this medium CAN be transportive. It’s immersion can be powerful.
Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw In some cases, I even have people who I know are profoundly uncomfortable coming to talk to us, but fight through that anyway to do so.
Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw And as a creator, it’s so, so affirming to hear those tales. To meet those folks and to thank them for taking the time to share.
Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw I go home from every PAX energized (and paradoxically exhausted at the same time) because of the people I meet and their stories.
Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw So, all this is to say: thank you to everyone who takes that moment to say hello.
Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw And a promise that I’ll try to pass that energy you so kindly shared with me to the team at home.
Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw And finally, that we’ll try to use that energy to make something even better in the future. /end
Mark Darrah @paxwest @biomarkdarrah A good reflective thread from Mike on Cons and why we do them.

Dragon Age has always been the unloved younger child of Bioware compared to Mass Effect in the eyes of the company, the gaming media and probably the fanbase.
I suspect it's because the Western fantasy RPG genre is more densely-packed than the western sci-fi RPG genre.

Nonetheless, I don't recall seeing any gaming site wailing "BUT WHAT ABOUT DAAAA FOOOOUR?" nearly two years after DAI's release. But there was lots of that after ME3, to the point where journalists were like "Dwarven Rage, yeah great, what about MEA?"
Casey Hudson tweeted about a fourth ME game less than a year after ME3's release. We can't say with certainty there will be a DA4.
Sorry, do I sound a tad bitter? Really, I'm fine. I'm fiiiiiiiiiine.

I've seen a lot of giant cartoon hands in my time, but that is something pretty special.
Oh, and I agree. I don't begrudge the lions share of the spotlight to Mass Effect, though I've never, and likely will never, play it. It is the bigger series. The headline act will always get the...well...headlines.
But something for my favourite gaming series would be nice.
Just a little something.
Anything.
Caveat: Anything that is not Mark Darrah posting weird logos and colour schemes.

I wouldn't go that far, at least... not anymore. I'd say that was true in the past, and moreso when DA2 dinged the franchise. But I think things turned with DAI. They poured a ton of resources into moving DA over to Frostbite and creating all the RPG/Camera elements for it. It got a lot of love from the media (and a boatload of GotY awards). And AFAIK, it's BioWare's most successful game ever. Which is likely why Mark was testing the waters for a DA spin-off game and that they'd even entertain ideas like a DLC musical (I really hope they do this though. It would be risky as hell, but awesome beyond words... ).

And, just like that, we found the name of the first song in this musical DLC.
