After washing up on the shores of Par Vollen, Nadia and Drayden are tossed into a dark prison. With things looking grim, matters are only made worse when a dragon attacks the city, forcing a Qunari treasure hunter named Taash to step-up and battle the ferocious creature.
And here's the transcript for Dragon Age: Vows and Vengeance | Episode 5: The Scales of Justice.
0:00 (MUSIC) NARRATOR: This podcast features adult language, 0:05 violent imagery, and mature themes. Listener discretion is advised. 0:11 (FOOTSTEPS) (PERSON GRUNTING) (BIRDS CHIRPING) (SQUELCHING FOOTSTEPS) (PEOPLE GRUNTING) 0:18 DECLAN: We'll veer left up at the fork, by that kapok tree just ahead. Lord Mondraine? 0:23 LORD TRISTAN MONDRAINE: (grunting) I'm coming, I'm coming. (FOOTSTEPS) MONDRAINE: Oh, holy maker in a bread pan, 0:30 how does anyone survive this forsaken heat? DECLAN: (groans) I know it's a bit hot but- MONDRAINE: A bit hot? 0:36 It's like we're walking through a fog made of butter soup. DECLAN: It will be cooler as we head west. 0:43 MONDRAINE: It better be. DECLAN: It will. (PANTING) (FOOTSTEPS) MONDRAINE: Hold on, I thought the map said east. 0:49 What are you playing at? DECLAN: Oh relax, Taash says west, and if you know her 0:54 as well as I, you'd know to take her word over a map. MONDRAINE: (groans) Well, excuse me if I'm 1:00 not quite as taken with her as you are. (FOOTSTEPS) I've been on this muddy, oh, disgusting rock for weeks. 1:08 And the closest I've been to treasure is the gold I keep handing to you and that Qunari. 1:13 DECLAN: (groans) That Qunari is the reason you are still alive. Without her, we wouldn't have even been allowed 1:22 to step on these grounds. I would show more respect. (FOOTSTEPS) (PANTING) 1:28 MONDRAINE: (groans) She might be good with an ax, but ugh, she's leading us in circles. 1:33 If you ask me, her eggs are a little soft-boiled. DECLAN: Her treasure hunting is an art, Lord Mondraine. 1:39 And I assure you, her instincts are a thing of beauty. 1:45 MONDRAINE: No, Declan, actually real art is beautiful and she and this place are not! 1:52 DECLAN: And what would you have me do? Mutiny against my friend? MONDRAINE: (groans) I would have you fulfill 1:58 your obligation to your employer. I hired you to find me a treasure, so take me to it 2:03 or the masters of Val Royeaux will hear of this! And the Lords of Fortune will be a thing of the past 2:09 along with that animal you call a friend. DECLAN: I would be careful with your words. 2:14 MONDRAINE: Or what? TAASH: Or you're going to die, right here on this muddy, disgusting rock. MONDRAINE: Oh, Taash. (FOOTSTEPS) 2:22 I, uh, I, I thought you were scouting ahead. TAASH: I was, now I'm back. 2:29 MONDRAINE: You must excuse my tongue. I merely got a little heated. TAASH: Nah, you were an asshole. 2:35 (MONDRAINE SCOFFS) (DECLAN STIFLES A LAUGH) MONDRAINE: Right, well, I still stand by the rest of 2:40 my remarks. I want my treasure and I want it now! TAASH: So stop talking and start walking. MONDRAINE: Excuse me, do you know who you're speaking to? 2:48 I apologized once, but I shall not bend the knee to some filthy- (AX CLANGS) TAASH: Shh! 2:55 (MONDRAINE STAMMERS) MONDRAINE: Now, now listen, you, I am still an Orlesian Noble and a, ooh, revered member of the court. 3:04 You don't have to like me, but you do! TAASH: I don't like you, don't have to either. 3:11 You're weak, slow, and you're getting in my way! (AX CLANGS) MONDRAINE: What...what are you doing? 3:17 Put- put that ax down. You hear me? Put it- (SCREAMS) (TAASH GRUNTS) 3:23 (MUSIC) (MUSIC) 3:33 (MUSIC) NARRATOR: This is Dragon Age: Vows and Vengeance. 3:39 Chapter Five: The Scales of Justice. 3:46 (WATER BUBBLES) (BIRD CHITTERS) MONDRAINE: What was that? What did you do? TAASH: Cleared a path to the treasure. 3:52 Shut up and listen. MONDRAINE: You mean we've been here the whole time? TAASH: We had to move with the sun. The shadows reveal the path to the Bloodfire. 3:59 MONDRAINE: Why didn't you say something? MONDRAINE: Oh! TAASH: I was busy. DECLAN: (groans) Like I said, better than any map. 4:08 (WATER SLOSHES) Well, are you coming? (WATER SLOSHES) MONDRAINE: Oh, into that stream? 4:16 It's more bog than bath water! DECLAN: I thought you were hot. (MONDRAINE GRUNTS) 4:24 (DECLAN CHUCKLES) MONDRAINE: Is this all a joke to you? TAASH: Shut up already, we're almost there. MONDRAINE: Almost where? 4:30 We're in the middle of a, oh, oh, damn swamp. I paid for the esteemed Lords (grunts) of Fortune 4:36 to lead me to the fabled ruins of Bloodfire Stones, sacred rubies and forged from the scales of a dragon. 4:44 (whimpers) And instead you've got me taking a mud bath! TAASH: If you don't relax, we're gonna feast on 4:50 Orlesian tongue. (ANIMAL ROARS) MONDRAINE: What was that? (MUSIC) 4:59 (FOOTSTEPS SQUELCHING) 5:05 (MONDRAINE GROANS) DECLAN: Taash, check out these stones. MONDRAINE: I don't like it here, it's eerie. 5:12 TAASH: Hold. (STOMPING) DECLAN: I think this is it, the summoning alter. 5:18 (TAASH SIGHS) (TAASH CHANTING IN FOREIGN TONGUE) 5:26 (TAASH CHANTING IN FOREIGN TONGUE) MONDRAINE: What are you whispering down there? DECLAN: Quiet! (TAASH CHANTING IN FOREIGN TONGUE) (MUSIC) 5:34 (TAASH CHANTING IN FOREIGN TONGUE) MONDRAINE: Andraste's tears! (laughs) 5:41 TAASH: Here's the Temple of the Lost Dragon. DECLAN: Oh, I never thought I'd see such a thing. MONDRAINE: (laughing) What are you imbeciles waiting for? 5:47 There's treasure to be had! TAASH: Lord Mondraine, wait! MONDRAINE: Wait for nothing. I've searched everywhere for these stones. 5:53 Now, we're finally here and I won't wait a second longer! (METAL CLANKS) What was that? 5:59 TAASH: You stepped on a trap, idiot. MONDRAINE: What? TAASH: Get down! (MONDRAINE GRUNTS) (ARROWS WHOOSHING) (ARROWS WHOOSING) (ALL GRUNTING) 6:10 TAASH: Anyone hurt? MONDRAINE: Oh, my arm! TAASH: Quiet! MONDRAINE: They shot my arm! 6:15 TAASH: Listen! MONDRAINE: I'm bleeding! DECLAN: I hear it too. MONDRAINE: I'm bleeding! TAASH: Shut up! DECLAN: Look, up at the trees, boulders! 6:23 TAASH: Another trap, step away from the center! MONDRAINE: Oh, Maker, I'm dying! (crying) DECLAN: Mondraine, move, now! 6:28 (ROPES SNAPPING) (BOULDERS LURCHING) MONDRAINE: Oh dear! (ROCKS CRASHING) 6:37 DECLAN: Dear mother! TAASH: Good riddance! DECLAN: Oh boy, you ever seen a man just pop like that? 6:45 TAASH: Yep. DECLAN: (laughs) Of course you have. You got a little, I don't know, spleen on your arm there. 6:52 TAASH: Ew, thanks. (DECLAN SIGHS) DECLAN: I don't suppose Val Royeaux is going to be happy 6:58 we let one of their nobles get splattered by a pair of boulders. TAASH: You suppose wrong. DECLAN: Come again? 7:04 TAASH: The court sent me a letter asking that Lord Mondraine regretfully and tragically finds himself unable to return to court. 7:11 DECLAN: The Orlesian Empire paid you to kill him? TAASH: No, it paid me to let him die. 7:16 DECLAN: Why didn't you tell me? TAASH: (laughs) The less you knew, the better off you were, just in case things went wrong. DECLAN: You did that for me, huh? 7:22 TAASH: Huh, don't let it get to your head. Now let's grab these Bloodfire Stones...Declan? 7:28 DECLAN: I really wish you would have told me about that letter, Taash. TAASH: Declan... DECLAN: I just couldn't stomach that fat slob 7:37 getting all the goods while we split the pennies he was paying us. TAASH: What did you do? DECLAN: I'm sorry, Taash, it's only business. (MUSIC) 7:44 QUNARI SOLDIER: Nobody move! DECLAN: Over here, the traitor is here! (TAASH GROANS) (QUNARI SOLDIER YELLS IN FOREIGN TONGUE) TAASH: Backstabbing swine! 7:50 QUNARI SOLDIER: You dare raise the ancient Temple of the Lost Dragon? Your actions are a disgrace to your people. 7:57 DECLAN: Yeah, Taash, not sure if you know this, but these are kind of sacred grounds. TAASH: Now you're really pissing me off! (grunts) 8:04 (THUD) (TAASH GRUNTS) QUNARI SOLDIER: Enough! Betrayal of one Qun is a crime against all Qun. 8:11 And you will answer for your crimes, dragon hunter. Human, many thanks for alerting us to this deception. 8:20 DECLAN: All in a day's work. Which reminds me, do you have my reward? (COINS JINGLE) (DECLAN GRUNTS) 8:26 (laughs) Well, I shall put this to good use in my village. I know it doesn't make up for her treachery, 8:32 but please know this will feed many children. QUNARI SOLDIER: Go now, back to your own lands. 8:38 TAASH: Enjoy your head while it's still attached, Declan. DECLAN: And yet you're the one under the blade, Taash. 8:44 See you around! (TAASH GRUNTS) (MUSIC) 8:50 (MUSIC) 8:56 (WATER DRIPS) (METAL BANGS) DRAYDEN KIEL: Hey! Hello? 9:03 I demand to speak with the ranking officer at once. My friend needs help! 9:09 (DRAYDEN SIGHS) (METAL CLANGS) Hello! I know you can hear me out there. (DOOR CREAKS) 9:20 QUNARI GUARD: Quit your barking, dog. DRAYDEN: Look at her, she's in bad shape. She needs help. 9:26 QUNARI GUARD: We sewed her wounds. DRAYDEN: But she needs healing, herbs, potions. 9:32 Her blood could be infected. QUNARI GUARD: And why would we waste our medicine on a pair of spying basra? 9:39 DRAYDEN: Oh, I told you, we weren't up to anything. We landed there by accident. 9:44 QUNARI GUARD: Oh, right, I suppose you just fell right out of the sky. DRAYDEN: That's exactly what happened! 9:50 QUNARI GUARD: Listen, one more outburst and we'll separate the two of you. This is your last warning. 9:56 (DOOR RUMBLES AND CREAKS SHUT) DRAYDEN: But! (groans) 10:03 (MOUSE SQUEAKS) DRAYDEN: Nadia? (NADIA WHIMPERS) 10:09 Nadia! Hey, it's me. I'm here, it was just a bad dream. Come on, breathe. 10:16 NADIA CARCOSA: Drayden. DRAYDEN: Easy there, let me help you onto this bench. There we go, nice and gentle. 10:22 NADIA: (coughs) Where are we? DRAYDEN: Par Vollen. NADIA: What, how did we wind up north in Qunari territory? 10:30 DRAYDEN: It would seem that Fade portal spit us deep into the archipelago right next to a camp of Qunari soldiers. 10:37 NADIA: Oh, please tell me you're kidding. DRAYDEN: I'm afraid not. NADIA: Ugh, oh. DRAYDEN: Hold on, let me fetch you some water. 10:43 You need to drink. (WATER SLOSHES) Here, take this. 10:49 (NADIA SLURPS) I've never seen anything like this place. They brought us inside some sort of pyramid. 10:56 We've been in this cell for two days. NADIA: (coughs) Two days? DRAYDEN: Your injuries were severe. 11:02 You've been asleep the whole time, shaking from nightmares. NADIA: My mind, it felt like I was stuck back in the Fade. 11:11 DRAYDEN: Yes, and as soon as you feel better, I want to talk to you more about that. I'm worried something may have happened to you 11:17 before Bellara and I caught up. NADIA: Wait, where is Bellara? 11:22 DRAYDEN: (stutters) I don't know. We jumped first. The tear was unstable. She said there was no guarantee 11:28 any of us would wind up in the same place. I just hope she made it. 11:33 I can't bear to think that she might have... NADIA: Died. DRAYDEN: I- I, Nadia. 11:39 NADIA: No, go ahead. DRAYDEN: Be careful. NADIA: You can say it. She might have died like Elio died. 11:44 Like everything in this flaming world is going to, because I took the Eye of Kethisca, because- DRAYDEN: Hey, hey, calm down. 11:51 I know you're upset, but you need to listen to me right now. NADIA: Listen to what? More of your fancy words? 11:57 Well, guess what? All the books in all of the lands won't bring back what I lost. DRAYDEN: Great Maker, I know you're hurt and broken, 12:04 but you push too far sometimes. It's not right the way you explode and thrust your pain upon everyone else. 12:10 NADIA: And what do you know of pain, of real loss? What, you think because people thought you were a peculiar child that you had it bad? 12:18 You think being a bit of an outcast can even compare to losing everyone you've ever cared for? DRAYDEN: Nadia, this isn't you. 12:25 Why are you being so cruel? NADIA: Because this is me! Don't you get it yet? I am irredeemable. 12:32 I'm a blight of pain and darkness. And if you allow yourself to get close to me, then you are going to die too. 12:38 Just like my parents and Vik and Elio, all of them. I can't lose anyone else, so just leave me alone. 12:46 (MUSIC) DRAYDEN: (sighs) You can hate me, Nadia. 12:51 You can yell at me or push me away. But you're not going to lose me, okay? 12:58 I am in this with you and we are going to finish it together. You are my friend, you stubborn ass. 13:04 And if you calm down for one second and listen, I could tell you that Elio isn't dead. 13:12 NADIA: What? DRAYDEN: There was nothing there, no body. When you pointed to Elio, I didn't see anything. 13:19 It was just the Fade messing with your mind. NADIA: No...no...I saw him die. 13:25 DRAYDEN: I warned you about this. It uses your memories, your feelings. The Fade will use everything against you. 13:32 NADIA: But it felt so real. DRAYDEN: I know how it seemed but he's- NADIA: He's...he's alive? 13:37 DRAYDEN: Yes, and as soon as we get out of here, we're going to keep hunting for the one behind it all. 13:44 NADIA: The Dread Wolf. DRAYDEN: The one and only. (DOOR RUMBLES) 13:52 (DOOR RUMBLES) (FOOTSTEPS) QUNARI GUARD: You two, step away from the door and 13:57 face the wall. DRAYDEN: Are those swords really necessary? QUNARI GUARD: They aren't for you. 14:03 (HEAVY FOOTSTEPS) In you go, traitor. TAASH: Yeah, yeah. (CHAINS RATTLING) QUNARI GUARD: And don't try anything. 14:11 Soldier, remove those chains. (CHAINS CLINKING) 14:18 TAASH: (groans) This place smells awful. QUNARI GUARD: Quiet or you'll keep those chains. TAASH: Go ahead, I'll just break them as soon as 14:25 you've gone. (DOOR RUMBLES AND CREAKS) 14:32 NADIA: I don't believe it. DRAYDEN: What? NADIA: I know that voice. Taash, is that really you? 14:39 TAASH: Carcosa? (MUSIC) 14:45 (MUSIC) (MUSIC) 14:53 TAASH: Carcosa! (grunts) What are you doing here? (NADIA GROANS) DRAYDEN: Hey, careful! Put her down. 15:00 TAASH: Are you hurt? What happened? Who do I need to punch? NADIA: You wouldn't believe me if I told you. TAASH: With you, I'd believe anything. 15:06 NADIA: What's it been now? TAASH: (laughing) Ages. NADIA: It's good to see you. TAASH: And you. (DRAYDEN COUGHS) 15:12 NADIA: Oh, this is my companion. DRAYDEN: I am Drayden Kiel. DRAYDEN: Writer, scholar, and historian. 15:18 It is a pleasure- TAASH: Don't need your life story. If Carcosa likes you, I like you. DRAYDEN: I see. 15:24 TAASH: Remember our favorite dance, Nadia? NADIA: (laughs) You can't be serious. The Dairsmuid two step? 15:29 TAASH: (laughs) Better than sitting here doing nothing. NADIA: Yeah, well, as much as I'd love to, I'm in no condition to stage a jailbreak at this moment. 15:38 TAASH: Hey, uh, are you okay? NADIA: I am now. 15:44 It's just been a rough few weeks. TAASH: Want to punch the wall? It might help. NADIA: I'm good, Taash. 15:50 TAASH: Good, good is good. DRAYDEN: Perhaps I could shed some light on the more 15:55 dire aspects of our recent travails, you see- (ROCKS RUMBLING) (ALL GRUNTING) 16:01 (CREATURE ROARS) DRAYDEN: What was that? 16:06 TAASH: Dragon. NADIA: Is everyone okay? DRAYDEN: (coughs) I'm good. TAASH: I'm not. I'm stuck under a damn rock. 16:12 It's big too, even for me. NADIA: Drayden, come here, help me push this thing. DRAYDEN: Coming. NADIA: Okay, okay, on me, push! 16:20 (ALL GRUNTING) Hang in there, Taash! TAASH: I don't need a speech. Just move it already! 16:25 NADIA: (groans) Push! (ALL GRUNTING) TAASH: It's not budging, put some muscle into it! 16:31 NADIA: Just hold on! TAASH: If that thing circles back, we're all dead. NADIA: Taash, be quiet, Drayden push! DRAYDEN: Okay. 16:37 (ALL GRUNTING) NADIA: I have an idea. 16:43 Drayden, grab that post over there. DRAYDEN: Got it. NADIA: Good, good, now wedge it under the rock. 16:49 (DRAYDEN GROANS) Now, when I say now, drop back with all your weight...now! 16:54 (ALL GRUNTING) DRAYDEN: It's moving! NADIA: One more push! (ALL GRUNTING) 17:00 (ROCK RUMBLES) We did it! (ALL PANTING) TAASH: Now let's get out of this death trap. 17:06 (MUSIC) (MUSIC) 17:12 (DRAGON SCREECHES) (ROCKS CRUMBLING) 17:23 (VILLAGERS SCREAMING) DRAYDEN: Maker help us. NADIA: It's razing the entire city. 17:30 TAASH: Oh great. NADIA: What? TAASH: It's a Gamordan Stormrider. DRAYDEN: Is that bad? TAASH: It definitely ain't good! 17:36 DRAYDEN: Watch out! (DRAGON ROARS) TAASH: Take cover under that aqueduct over there. NADIA: No, wait, hold here! 17:41 (DRAGON SCREECHES) It's coming back for another pass. (VILLAGERS SCREAMING) (BUILDINGS RUMBLING) 17:48 TAASH: So much for the aqueduct. NADIA: That was a close one. DRAYDEN: Oh no, look! NADIA: What? DRAYDEN: That child is pinned down out there all alone. 17:55 NADIA: Where? DRAYDEN: There! QUNARI CHILD: (distant) Help, help! NADIA: You two, wait here. Taash, get ready. TAASH: I'm always ready. 18:01 DRAYDEN: Nadia, I can help. NADIA: You help by staying put. If we both go, we could both get hurt. If I go down, then you come, got it? 18:07 DRAYDEN: Okay, got it, but be careful. (NADIA PANTS AND GRUNTS) 18:13 DRAYDEN: Nadia, behind you! (NADIA GRUNTS) NADIA: Maker, can one thing be easy, one? 18:20 QUNARI CHILD: Help, help! (NADIA PANTS AND GRUNTS) 18:25 QUNARI CHILD: Run, enemy! NADIA: No, no, no, I'm here to help, little one, friend. 18:30 I'm (stammers) a- Maker, what's the word for friend? Kadan, kadan! QUNARI CHILD: Kadan? 18:38 NADIA: Yes, Kadan, now come on. I've got to get you out of this rubble. (NADIA GRUNTS) 18:46 Almost there kid, just got to move this big one. (NADIA GRUNTS) (RUBBLE CLACKING) 18:54 Don't worry, I got you. (CHILD CRIES) Shh. (in foreign tongue) Taashath. Taashath. 19:00 (DRAGON SCREECHES) DRAYDEN: It's headed right for them. TAASH: Move! DRAYDEN: What? 19:06 TAASH: Move! I need that soldier's spear. DRAYDEN: Oh, there's no way you're going to hit that dragon from here. TAASH: Watch me. (grunts) 19:13 (TAASH GRUNTS) (SPEAR WHOOSHES) (MUSIC) 19:20 (SPEAR SQUELCHES) (DRAGON SCREECHES) (DRAGON GROANS) 19:28 (VILLAGERS CHEERING) (ALL PANTING) 19:35 TAASH: You two make it? NADIA: We're good, thanks Taash. You saved me and this little one. 19:40 TAASH: We're all safe...for now. KITHSHOK: Stop those prisoners immediately! 19:46 TAASH: Not too soon. (SWORDS CLANGING) (MUSIC) 19:54 (VILLAGERS CHATTERING) KITHSHOK: Move and you die. 20:00 DRAYDEN: Who's that? TAASH: I think it's a Qunari general, a Kithshok. KITHSHOK: You! Dragon hunter! 20:06 TAASH: Me? KITHSHOK: You're the one who disturbed the Temple of the Lost Dragon. 20:12 You caused all of this. DRAYDEN: In case you didn't notice, she's the one who just saved us. 20:19 KITHSHOK: This does not concern you, human. NADIA: But- KITHSHOK: If either of you speaks again, you will 20:25 taste my blade. (BLADE CLANGS) QUNARI CHILD: Kadan, kadan, she saved my life! 20:31 She is kadan. KITHSHOK: What's this? QUNARI CHILD: She is. DRAYDEN: It's true. Nadia ran into the path of the dragon's attack 20:37 and saved the little one. KITHSHOK: You...risked your life for a Qunari child? 20:45 NADIA: I would risk my life for any child. KITHSHOK: Yet you would not get the same kindness in return? 20:51 NADIA: That sounds like something you should probably think about. DRAYDEN: Does that not prove our intentions? 20:56 We are not the enemy. KITHSHOK: Intentions matter not when weighed against the consequences. 21:06 The bas can go free, but this one will hang. NADIA: Wha-! No! KITHSHOK: This is not up for debate. 21:13 NADIA: Wait, what if we take care of the Stormrider? KITHSHOK: (scoffs) As if you could. 21:20 TAASH: Nadia. NADIA: Taash, you're the greatest dragon slayer in all of Thedas. The Stormrider, can it be killed? 21:26 TAASH: Anything that bleeds can die. NADIA: So what do you say then? We kill your beast, we all go free. 21:33 KITHSHOK: And how would you do this? TAASH: With my ax. NADIA: Taash. TAASH: (scoffs) Fine, it's already retreated across the sea. 21:39 So we'll need a ship, some soldiers, and lots of luck. (HEAVY FOOTSTEPS) 21:47 KITHSHOK: You will take a dreadnought and sail with the Karasaad. You will either kill the Stormrider or 21:55 it will kill you. The Qun will decide your fate. 22:00 TAASH: (scoffs) Right, the Qun. NADIA: (whispers) Hey Taash, you got this? 22:06 TAASH: Yep, just another day in paradise. NADIA: You know one of these days, we'll have to meet up and just have a nice ale or something. 22:12 TAASH: (laughs) Could you imagine? DRAYDEN: Not to interrupt, but is this a bad time to mention I get seasick? 22:19 NADIA: (scoffs) Drayden... (MUSIC) 22:26 (MUSIC) (THUNDER BOOMS) (QUNARI ROWERS CHANTING) 22:34 (QUNARI ROWERS CHANTING) 22:39 (BOAT CREAKING) (QUNARI ROWERS CHANTING) DRAYDEN: It's raining pretty hard. 22:46 Sure you don't want to head below? NADIA: I'm fine here. 22:51 DRAYDEN: How are you doing? NADIA: I don't know. I'm up, I'm down. 22:57 My mind is scattered. I know you said it wasn't real and I want to believe you, but I- 23:03 DRAYDEN: Stop listening to that doubt. It's just the Fade haunting you like a ghost 23:08 twisting your heart and whoa, bending your world. 23:14 NADIA: The ring! DRAYDEN: What? NADIA: Elio's ring. I never got it back from Flicker. 23:21 So that's gone now too. DRAYDEN: Hmm. NADIA: What? 23:27 DRAYDEN: That actually might not be the worst thing. NADIA: Excuse me? DRAYDEN: (groans) Remember what Bellara said? 23:35 That ring was our guide. All the memories and magic tied to its existence, 23:41 it was like a beacon. So it wasn't just leading us to Elio. 23:47 NADIA: It was leading Elio to us. DRAYDEN: Precisely! Which means wherever he is, 23:53 he knows you're alive and he knows you're looking for him. 24:00 NADIA: You're a good friend, Drayden. DRAYDEN: Ooo, friend. I thought I was your companion. 24:06 NADIA: Don't make this weird. DRAYDEN: Whoa! NADIA: Hey, you okay? 24:11 DRAYDEN: Yes, I'm...I'm- (retches) NADIA: Ugh, damn it, come on! 24:17 DRAYDEN: Sorry. (HORN BELLOWS) 24:23 TAASH: There, the dragon's lair is across that shore. She'll be asleep at this hour. DRAYDEN: She? 24:29 TAASH: The ridges and coloration of her spine. When she attacked, I got a good look. NADIA: And I assume waking her up would be a bad idea? 24:37 TAASH: Yep. DRAYDEN: I've never seen so much white sand. TAASH: (chuckles) That ain't sand, kid. 24:42 DRAYDEN: Oh. NADIA: That's a lot of bones. TAASH: That's a lot of dragon. 24:49 (DRAGON SHRIEKS) Oh crap. NADIA: I thought you said she was asleep. 24:54 TAASH: She is, that's not her. Stormrider has a nest, probably their first hunt. 25:00 Huh, this was never about the temple. DRAYDEN: Taash, look out! There's three of them. (DRAGON SCREECHES) QUNARI SOLDIER: Abort, abort! 25:08 (SOLDIERS SCREAMING) TAASH: Stay back! The rain can catch their lightning breath, making it burst out in webs. 25:15 QUNARI LIEUTENANT: The smaller ones are looping back, what do we do? DRAYDEN: Taash? TAASH: Hold on, I'm thinking. 25:20 (TAASH PACES) (DRAGON SCREECHES) How much gaatlock we got? QUNARI LIEUTENANT: We're stocked to the gills. 25:25 TAASH: Take the cannons off the riggings and aim high. We need to scorch the sky. QUNARI LIEUTENANT: What? Those cannons weigh 25:31 five hundred pounds! TAASH: I thought you guys were tough? (RUNNING FOOTFALLS) QUNARI LIEUTENANT: Karasaad, man the cannons! 25:38 DRAYDEN: What's gaatlock? TAASH: Qunari explosives. Hate their politics, but love their guns. 25:43 QUNARI SOLDIER: Watch out! It's landing on the ship! (THUD) NADIA: Drayden, dive! (DRAYDEN GRUNTS) 25:48 (ELECTRICITY CRACKLES) (ALL GRUNT) DRAYDEN: (stutters) I'm okay. NADIA: Get behind me! (DAGGERS CLINKING) 25:54 That's right, you little bastard. You want some breakfast? You're going to have to go through me! (DRAGON SCREECHES) 26:00 I am not afraid of you! (DRAGON SCREECHES) Though, I would love some advice on how to kill this thing, Taash! 26:06 TAASH: Under the jaw! The scales are still thin on the young ones. NADIA: Got it. (SWORD CLANGS) DRAYDEN: What do you say? 26:13 Want to teach me that two-step? NADIA: It'd be my pleasure. On me! (grunts) (ALL GRUNTING) 26:19 TAASH: We're almost ready! (SWORDS CLASHING) NADIA: Don't worry about me. You just get those cannons going! TAASH: No, you're the one who brought daggers to 26:26 a dragon fight. (DAGGERS SLASHING) NADIA: I'm sorry, do we need to talk about the time we fought the undead 26:32 in the tombs beneath Clagan's Hollow? TAASH: That's not fair, you know, I don't like corpses. DRAYDEN: We are all going to be corpses if you two 26:37 don't focus! (NADIA GRUNTING) (SWORDS CLANGING) NADIA: It's going to crush me! 26:44 DRAYDEN: Yah! Remove yourself from her, you wretch! NADIA: Drayden, watch out for its tail! 26:49 DRAYDEN: Ugh! Ahhh! (TAIL SWATS) (DRAYDEN CRIES OUT) (DRAYDEN GRUNTS) NADIA: Taash! DRAYDEN: Nadia! 26:54 DRAYDEN: I think it's going to fry me. NADIA: Taash! Now would be a good time. TAASH: I see your lightning, now feel my fire! 27:02 (DRAGON SCREECHES) Ataash! (CANNON UNLOADS) (EXPLOSIVE WHOOSHES) 27:09 (ALL PANTING AND GASPING) DRAYDEN: Nadia, are you all right? NADIA: (groans) Yeah, I'm good. 27:15 But "now feel my fire", seriously? TAASH: What? 27:21 NADIA: That was terrible. TAASH: You're crazy, it was great. DRAYDEN: It was a little rough, Taash. TAASH: Ah, piss off, the both of you. (laughs) 27:28 NADIA: Thanks though, you saved me again. TAASH: All right, all right, let's not get all mushy. 27:33 Fighting's not done. NADIA: And you too, Drayden, thanks. DRAYDEN: Guess you had some dance moves left over after all. 27:39 QUNARI SOLDIERS: Fire! Fire! TAASH: That's it! Blast everywhere. The explosions will make them dizzy and confused. 27:45 (EXPLOSIVES WHOOSH) QUNARI LIEUTENANT: It's working! A second beast drops from the sky! 27:50 TAASH: Keep firing! QUNARI LIEUTENANT: Nehraa Qun! QUNARI SOLDIERS: Fire! Fire! (TAASH GRUNTS) (PROJECTILES WHOOSHING) (DRAGON SCREECHES) 27:57 QUNARI LIEUTENANT: The last one. It flees! NADIA: Well, I'll be damned. We might actually survive this. 28:04 (DRAGON ROARS) TAASH: Oh crap, mom's awake. 28:10 DRAYDEN: And you talk about me jinxing things! NADIA: Sorry! TAASH: Stormrider! Everyone take cover! 28:16 (ALL GRUNTING) (SOLDIERS SCREAMING) 28:24 DRAYDEN: Holy Maker... NADIA: If that Stormrider comes back for another strafing run, we are not going to survive. 28:29 We need to fall back. TAASH: Impossible. We can't outrun the Stormrider. It'll kill us all. I need to kill it. 28:35 I need a cannon. NADIA: What are we supposed to do against that thing? TAASH: Not we. (TAASH GRUNTS) DRAYDEN: What are you doing? 28:41 TAASH: The gaatlock is strong enough to break through its scales, but not from this distance. Nadia, hand me that satchel. 28:46 (TAASH GRUNTS) DRAYDEN: You just put a hundred pounds of gaatlock on your back, Taash. 28:51 TAASH: Should I grab more? NADIA: Taash! TAASH: (laughs) Just kidding, Carcosa, but you and the mouth here should prepare to jump in in case this goes sideways. 28:59 NADIA: We aren't going anywhere. TAASH: Suit yourself. And you, soldiers, when the dragon circles back, aim the cannons above it. 29:06 Just like before, got it? (SOLDIERS YELL) DRAYDEN: Isn't she too big to be affected by the shock waves? 29:11 TAASH: Yep, but I need her flying low if I'm going to jump on. NADIA: Sorry, did you say jump on? TAASH: How else am I going to get this satchel around 29:17 her neck? NADIA: You are insane! This is a suicide mission! TAASH: So is staying here. 29:22 NADIA: Ugh, fine, good luck, Taash. TAASH: Thanks, but don't jinx me! Cannons ready! 29:28 (MUSIC) (METAL BANGING) QUNARI SOLDIER: Ready. TAASH: Fire! QUNARI SOLDIERS: Fire! (SOLDIERS YELLING) 29:34 (PROJECTILES WHIZZING) (DRAGON GROWLING) TAASH: Again! QUNARI SOLDIERS: Fire! (CANNON BLASTS) (DRAGON ROARS) 29:39 TAASH: Light them up! (SOLDIERS GRUNTING) (CANNON BLASTS WHOOSHING) NADIA: It dived! She's taking the bait! 29:46 (DRAGON SCREAMS) DRAYDEN: She did it! She's on its back! 29:52 NADIA: I don't believe it. (TAASH GRUNTS) QUNARI LIEUTENANT: Hold fire! 29:57 NADIA: Come on, Taash, come on! (ELECTRICITY CRACKLES) (EXPLOSION) 30:02 (TAASH GRUNTS) (DRAGON SCREECHES) (TAASH GRUNTS) (DRAGON SCREECHES) 30:09 (WIND WHOOSHES) (EXPLOSION BOOMS) 30:16 (DRAGON ROARS WEAKLY) (BODY SPLASHES) 30:23 QUNARI LIEUTENANT: It's dead! (WAVES CRASHING) (ALL CHEERING) NADIA: Do you see Taash? Where is she? Taash! Taash! 30:31 DRAYDEN: There, I see her! NADIA: Where? DRAYDEN: There, beyond that wave. NADIA: Let down a lifeboat! We have to find her. 30:36 QUNARI LIEUTENANT: Rescue teams, secure the Dragon Hunter! NADIA: Wait, I'm coming too! DRAYDEN: Well if you're going, I'm going. 30:43 (RAPID FOOTSTEPS) (PULLEYS CRANKING) QUNARI SOLDIER: Release the hooks! (HOOKS CLANKING) 30:48 (ROPES WHIZZING) (BOAT SMACKS THE WATER) (WATER SLOSHING) (MUSIC) 30:56 (SOLDIERS ROWING AND CHANTING) 31:02 NADIA: Over there! TAASH: (distant) Over here! NADIA: Come on! QUNARI SOLDIER: Drag the oars and slow down. 31:10 TAASH: A little closer and I can grab the side. NADIA: Help her up! QUNARI SOLDIER: Get her up here. (WATER SLOSHING) (SOLDIER GRUNTING) 31:15 (BODY THUDS) (TAASH GRUNTS) (TAASH COUGHING UP WATER) TAASH: God, what took you so long? 31:21 Oh, that water smelled terrible. NADIA: If you're gonna be like that, we can put you right back where we found you 31:27 with whatever smelled so bad. TAASH: I would come for your entire bloodline. (BOTH LAUGHING) DRAYDEN: Look! Back on the ship! 31:33 (MUSIC) NADIA: (chuckles) You did it, you really did it. 31:39 TAASH: Nah, we did it. Remember, remember the Palace of Winter, the Qunari gaatlok attack. I know plenty of reasons, why Fen’Harel’s treason should end with a knife in his back.
Dragon Age: Vows and Vengeance | Episode 7: The Demon that Came Knocking
It’s a race against the clock as Nadia rides to Nevarra to find a cure for Drayden, but a dangerous storm delays her journey. However, as fate would have it, Nadia meets a necromancer named Emmrich and, together, they take shelter in what they think is an abandoned castle.
0:02 NARRATOR: This podcast features adult language, violent imagery, and mature themes. Listener discretion is advised. 0:09 (MUSIC) (DRAYDEN COUGHING) 0:16 NADIA CARCOSA: Wake up, Drayden, wake up! Don't you dare leave me, Drayden! LUCANIS DELLAMORTE: Quick, get them on the table. 0:22 ELIZA: Let me clear it off. (OBJECTS CLATTERING) NADIA: Come on, wake up! LUCANIS: Nadia, we must move them. 0:27 NADIA: (panting) Okay, okay. LUCANIS: Easy does it. (BOTH GRUNTING) (BODY THUDDING) ELIZA: Oh, we've got to pull the dagger out. 0:33 LUCANIS: Eliza, please grab some rum and clean clothes. ELIZA: Right away. LUCANIS: Someone hold their feet. LILLEMAR: I've got them. 0:39 LUCANIS: Nadia, I need you to lock their shoulders down. Make sure they do not squirm. If they move, it could deepen their wound. 0:44 NADIA: I've got them. Just hurry up and yank that dagger out. LUCANIS: Everyone ready? ALL: Mmmhmm. Yeah. LUCANIS: And now! 0:50 (FLESH SQUELCHING) (DRAYDEN GROANING) NADIA: There's too much blood. LUCANIS: Just hold on. ELIZA: Here! I've got- (DRAYDEN WAILING) 0:56 LUCANIS: Hand me the rum! LILLEMAR: This is no time for a drink! LUCANIS: It is for the wound, my Lady, to block infection. 1:01 Keep them steady. (RUM POURING) I need to inspect the cut. This will look weird, but I have to dig inside with my finger. 1:07 (DRAYDEN CRYING OUT IN PAIN) LUCANIS: Looks like the blade missed the vital bits. I do not feel any spasms or arterial ejections. 1:14 ELIZA: Will they make it? LUCANIS: If we can stop the bleeding. Give me that cloth. ELIZA: Here. 1:20 LUCANIS: Nadia, hold the cloth here. Press it firm and slow the blood. LILLEMAR: What can I do? LUCANIS: Your blade, stick it in the fireplace. 1:26 Get it red hot, hurry! LILLEMAR: On it. (FOOTSTEPS) NADIA: Lucanis, what are you thinking? LUCANIS: We have to close the wound. 1:31 There is no time for sewing. We are going to burn it shut, then pack it with a poultice of mud, moss, and herbs. 1:36 NADIA: Burn it shut? Is that safe? LUCANIS: Yes, but it is going to hurt. (BLADE SIZZLING) LILLEMAR: Watch out, this thing is molten. 1:43 LUCANIS: Last time, everyone, hold them down as tight as you can. Eliza, take that other cloth and jam it in their mouth 1:48 so they don't bite off their tongue. NADIA: Are you sure you know what you're doing? ELIZA: Nadia, if there's one thing a Crow can do 1:54 besides killing, it's treating a wound. NADIA: Get on with it then. LUCANIS: Everyone in place. 2:00 (MUFFLED SCREAMS) (DRAYDEN THRASHING) ELIZA: Come on, just relax. LUCANIS: Lillemar, make sure the blade goes right over the wound. 2:06 LILLEMAR: Got it. (THUNDER BOOMING) LUCANIS: Nadia, give the word. (NADIA SIGHS) NADIA: Do it. 2:12 (FLESH SIZZLING) (DRAYDEN CRYING OUT) ELIZA: I'm sorry my dear child, just hold on. 2:18 LUCANIS: That is good. Pull the blade away. (DRAYDEN CRYING OUT, THEN GOING SILENT) NADIA: Well? 2:23 LUCANIS: Let me check. (LUCANIS BREATHING HEAVILY) Their heart sounds strong. I think they will be fine. 2:29 (SIGHS OF RELIEF) ELIZA: Thank the Maker. NADIA: You hear that? You're gonna be okay, Books. 2:34 We'll get you fixed up in no time. LILLEMAR: Lucanis, look. (FOOTSTEPS) (DAGGER CLANGING) LUCANIS: What is that? 2:40 LILLEMAR: The captain's dagger. (MUSIC) LUCANIS: Is that...? LILLEMAR: I'm afraid so. 2:46 NADIA: What? What is it? LUCANIS: Poison. (THUNDER BOOMING) 2:52 NADIA: What do you mean poison? LUCANIS: Look here. The dagger has a stinger on the tip. A small reservoir that can hold any number of toxins. 3:00 LILLEMAR: Captain always favored the Blood of the Black Rot. LUCANIS: (sighs) Aye. ELIZA: What is, what's the black rot? 3:06 LUCANIS: It is a nasty concoction that gets into the humors, slowly turning the blood into something like oil. 3:12 (ALL GASPING AND SIGHING) NADIA: Is there an antidote? What do they need? 3:18 Just, just tell me! LILLEMAR: Nadia, I'm afraid there isn't. NADIA: No, don't say that. 3:23 We have to do something. LUCANIS: There is no medicine for this, but you do have 3:29 one option. Magic, necromancy is Drayden's only hope. NADIA: Is there a necromancer here in Antiva? 3:35 We'll go right now. LUCANIS: Not one that is strong enough. NADIA: Well, what am I supposed to do? 3:42 (MUSIC) LILLEMAR: Ride to Nevarra. I have a friend there. His name is Ramiro, a powerful merchant. 3:49 He'll be able to help you find someone. I will give you my seal. (MUSIC) (NADIA SIGHS) 3:56 NADIA: Okay then. Lucanis, help me get Drayden outside. We're leaving right now. 4:01 LUCANIS: I will take the shoulders. (LUCANIS AND NADIA GRUNTING) (FOOTSTEPS) (HEAVY BREATHING) 4:08 (THUNDER BOOMING) (RAIN POURING DOWN) 4:14 NADIA: Hold on, let me mount up first. Then put them on here in front so I can hold onto them. (HORSE GRUNTING) 4:20 Easy girl. (NADIA GRUNTS) LUCANIS: (grunting) Hold them steady. 4:25 (BOTH GRUNTING) NADIA: Got them. LILLEMAR: I'll have my men ride out with you. They can escort you as far as the border. 4:31 NADIA: Thank you, Lillemar, for everything. LILLEMAR: Drayden saved my life. That dagger was meant for me. 4:37 When they get through this, make sure to let them know House Borgiani is in their debt. I'm going to make sure things are different around here. 4:45 NADIA: I will. ELIZA: Nadia, Drayden is very special, and I don't want to lose them again. 4:51 NADIA: You won't, Eliza, I promise. ELIZA: I look forward to seeing you once more, both of you. 5:00 (THUNDER BOOMING) (RAIN POURING) NADIA: Okay, it's time. Lillemar, your men. LILLEMAR: Soldiers, mount up! 5:06 (SOLDIERS YELLING) Ready when you are. LUCANIS: Farewell, Nadia. NADIA: You too, Lucanis. 5:13 LILLEMAR: Knights of Borgiani, lead the way! (SOLDIERS YELLING) NADIA: Yah! Double time! 5:19 (SOLDIERS YELLING) (HORSES GALLOPING) Hang on, Books, just hang on. I'm not losing anyone else. 5:25 (MUSIC) (MUSIC) 5:35 (MUSIC) 5:40 (MUSIC) 5:45 (MUSIC) (THUNDER BOOMING) NARRATOR: This is Dragon Age: Vows and Vengeance, 5:54 Chapter Seven: The Demon That Came Knocking. (RAIN FALLING) (HORSES TROTTING) 6:01 (THUNDER BOOMING) ROLET: The storm's getting heavy, Master Emmrich. 6:06 We may not be able to go much further. What do you want me to do? EMMRICH VOLKARIN: Hmm, perhaps we should pull the 6:13 carriage off the road and hunker down inside until it passes. ROLET: What about the horses, sir? 6:18 EMMRICH: Unhitch them. ROLET: Unhitch them? EMMRICH: Those animals are every bit a part of nature as this storm. 6:25 Their instincts will guide them to safety. We just have to give them the freedom to take care of themselves. 6:30 I trust they shall return when this tempestuous weather has passed. ROLET: Right. 6:36 Okay, then. (HEAVY RAIN) (THUNDER BOOMING) ROLET: Oh, Maker. (ROLET YELLING) (ROLET GRUNTING) 6:44 I've never seen a rain like this before. (RAIN POURING) (THUNDER BOOMING) ROLET: Alright, hold it. Take it easy, boys. 6:51 We're going to get you sorted. (HORSE NEIGHS) I know, I know, just give me a moment. 6:57 You'll be free. (ROLET MUMBLING) (HORSE WHINNYING) Easy, easy, almost done. 7:02 (HITCH UNLOCKS) Go on, get! (ROLET SLAPS HORSE) Find yourselves some shelter. 7:07 EMMRICH: Come, shelter before the storm gets any worse. ROLET: I'm coming, sir! (WET FOOTSTEPS) 7:12 NADIA: Hey, hey! ROLET: Hello? NADIA: Over here! Help! 7:19 (DOOR CREAKS OPEN) EMMRICH: What's happening out there? NADIA: Help! ROLET: There's someone yelling for help, but I don't 7:25 see anyone. I think it might be bandits. EMMRICH: Oh dear. (FOOTSTEPS) (grunts) We should take a look. 7:31 I doubt anyone braved these elements for a quick coin. So, now which way did you say those shouts were coming from? 7:38 ROLET: This way. (RAPID SQUELCHING FOOTFALLS) NADIA: We're over here! Please help us! 7:43 EMMRICH: Ah, over there, I see them. Hurry! (RAPID FOOTFALLS) (NADIA GASPING) 7:48 NADIA: By the Lady, I am so happy to see you. We, we, we've been stuck here at least an hour. I didn't know what to do. 7:54 They, they were too heavy to carry in this mud. Their pulse is falling and I- I... EMMRICH: There, there. Please put your mind at ease, 8:00 my lady. What is your name? NADIA: Nadia, but... EMMRICH: A pleasure, Nadia. Emmrich Volkarin, at your service. 8:06 Now come, we have some room in the carriage and you can shelter there until the storm passes. NADIA: No, no, you don't understand. 8:12 ROLET: Sir, this one, their pulse is weak. Something's wrong! NADIA: Yes, yes, that's Drayden. 8:18 They've been poisoned. EMMRICH: Poisoned? NADIA: I have been riding straight through from Antiva. 8:23 They caught a blade tipped with the Blood of the Black Rot. I've come for help. EMMRICH: And how long have you been riding? 8:29 NADIA: Almost a fortnight. EMMRICH: Not to sound panicked, but we must take them back to the carriage so that I can treat them at once. 8:35 NADIA: No, no, we need magic. I'm on my way to Hunter Fell. I, I'm to find someone who can put me in league 8:41 with a necromancer. I must finish the journey. EMMRICH: My dear, your journey is finished. 8:47 I am a necromancer, and I can save your friend, but time is of the essence, so please trust me. 8:53 NADIA: Alright. EMMRICH: Rolet, if you wouldn't mind, could you carry this one back? (ROLET GRUNTING) 9:01 EMMRICH: Nadia, my apologies, as I am sure your mind is exhausted, but I need you to tell me everything you can 9:06 about what happened. Was the wound deep or shallow? NADIA: It was a poison tipped dagger. 9:12 It went deep but missed the organs. EMMRICH: Ah, that is a bit strange. NADIA: Why? 9:18 EMMRICH: Not to alarm unnecessarily, but if the poison was released that deeply in the body, 9:23 it should have run its course by now. The rot may move slowly, but not that slowly. 9:29 NADIA: Yeah, but Drayden is different, special. EMMRICH: Special? Please tell me more. 9:35 NADIA: As a child, they were touched by the Fade, and I don't know, they have some sort of connection. EMMRICH: Hmm, that would very well explain 9:42 their resistance to death. I look forward to healing your friend so that we may discuss this. 9:47 We'll get them fixed, I promise. ROLET: Sir, the carriage is just ahead. EMMRICH: Thank you, Rolet. (whistles) 9:53 Manfred, could you please come out here to lend Rolet a hand? NADIA: Who's Manfred? 9:59 EMMRICH: My friend and assistant. (MUSIC) (CREATURE SNARLING) 10:04 (MANFRED GRUNTING) (NADIA YELPING) (ROLET YELPING) ROLET: Take it easy. 10:10 You almost scared me out of my boots yelling like that. NADIA: Why is there a walking skeleton exiting 10:15 your carriage? EMMRICH: That, dear Nadia, is Manfred. NADIA: Manfred, your assistant? 10:20 EMMRICH: Indeed, a gentle spirit, ball of curiosity, and a threat to no one. 10:25 NADIA: I see. (MANFRED GURGLING) EMMRICH: Manfred, this one here has been poisoned. We need to prepare an extraction. 10:32 Gather my kit and help Rolet prepare the body. Time is tight, so we'll have to fix them up right here on the carriage. 10:38 (MANFRED GRUNTING) Rolet, I don't mean to ask so much of you, but once you get Drayden on the carriage, 10:45 grab the axe and build a quick shelter for you and Nadia. I'm afraid you'll both have to wait outside. 10:50 The magic I have to use can be a bit dicey. ROLET: I'll build a canoe if I have to. EMMRICH: Excellent, thank you. 10:57 Now Nadia, I could use your help to- (LOUD CRACKING) (EVERYONE YELLING) ROLET: Another earthquake! 11:04 EMMRICH: Everyone just hold steady. (TREE CRASHING) ROLET: Watch out, tree! 11:11 EMMRICH: Nadia, behind you, move! (NADIA YELPS) (TREE THUDS) NADIA: Thanks, Emmrich. EMMRICH: No thanks are needed. 11:18 (THUNDER BOOMS) ROLET: (yelling) The carriage! EMMRICH: Everyone step back! (ALL YELLING) 11:26 (TREE CRASHES) (WOOD SCATTERING) 11:31 (THUNDER BOOMING) (ROLET SCREAMING) EMMRICH: Rolet, we're coming! ROLET: For the love of Andraste, that filthy tree 11:38 smashed my ankle! EMMRICH: Manfred, please help me with him. NADIA: Drayden, where's Drayden? 11:44 Drayden! (ROLET GRUNTING) ROLET: Over there, I managed to get them down before the tree fell. 11:50 (NADIA GRUNTS) EMMRICH: Forgive me, but I must gently roll the ankle to examine its condition. 11:56 (ROLET YELLING) How does that feel? ROLET: Ah, not good! EMMRICH: I'm afraid it might be broken. 12:01 I don't think you can walk. ROLET: I can limp. EMMRICH: Not by yourself, you won't. We shall help you. 12:06 Now, here we go. (ROLET GROANS) ROLET: Ohh, that smarts! (NADIA PANTING) 12:11 NADIA: Emmrich, hurry! Something's happened with Drayden. EMMRICH: Manfred, I need your help to keep Rolet standing. I'll be right back. 12:17 (NADIA GRUNTING) (RAPID FOOTSTEPS) Nadia, what's wrong? NADIA: Drayden's eyes, look at them! They've sprouted black veins in the white. 12:24 EMMRICH: Oh dear. The poison is starting to turn. We must hurry now. (MUSIC) (THUNDER BOOMING) ROLET: Oh, hey, look up there 12:30 at the top of the hill. EMMRICH: What do you see? ROLET: I saw the outline of something in the flash of lightning. I think maybe a castle. 12:38 EMMRICH: Oh, by jove, I think you're right. I think it's best if we all head there. Manfred, help Rolet and I'll take Drayden. 12:45 Together we'll make it up that hill. NADIA: And me? (SQUELCHING FOOTSTEPS) EMMRICH: I don't mean to sound dire, but best you 12:50 search your heart for something to believe in. (MUSIC) (SQUELCHING FOOTSTEPS) 12:58 (MUSIC) (SQUELCHING FOOTSTEPS) 13:03 (THUNDER BOOMING) (RAIN FALLING) 13:09 (RAIN FALLING) (SQUELCHING FOOTSTEPS) (EMMRICH SIGHING) (ALL GRUNTING) 13:15 ROLET: That hill was a lot steeper than it looked. 13:21 NADIA: The castle looks abandoned. EMMRICH: Many homes have been abandoned to these storms. These are tough times. 13:27 (DRAYDEN COUGHING) NADIA: Drayden! EMMRICH: Stand back. (THUNDER BOOMING) (echoing) May these words travel beyond the flesh, 13:34 beyond the body, flowing down the silver thread to the spirit lost. 13:40 Your home is calling, Drayden. Hear me! Your home is calling. 13:45 (MAGICAL TINKLING) NADIA: What are you doing? EMMRICH: I'm sending a message beyond the Veil to let Drayden know that it will soon be safe for them to return to their body. 13:53 (THUNDER BOOMING) (ROLET YELLING) ROLET: It's getting bad out here. NADIA: Door's jammed. Hold on. (BLADE UNSHEATHING) 13:59 (NADIA GRUNTING) (DOOR CREAKING OPEN) EMMRICH: Hurry! Everyone inside! 14:04 (ALL SCURRYING INSIDE) ROLET: Oh, Maker, that wind is deadly. 14:10 NADIA: I got it. (NADIA GRUNTS) Someone hand me that board. (BONES RATTLING) 14:15 Thanks, Bones. (ALL GRUNTING) NADIA: Ah! What's your problem? EMMRICH: Oh, I'm afraid Manfred here is not very fond 14:22 of nicknames. NADIA: Oh, sorry. (MANFRED GRUNTING) 14:27 EMMRICH: He says apology accepted. Now we must find a chamber suitable for the extraction. 14:33 Manfred, did you salvage my kit? (MANFRED GRUNTING) Excellent work. 14:38 Hmm, Rolet do you mind staying down here? It'll be quicker for us to get Drayden up those stairs. 14:44 ROLET: But this place is creepy. EMMRICH: Well, I think it's quite charming. ROLET: All due respect, sir, but you would. 14:50 (DRAYDEN COUGHING) EMMRICH: Alright, we need to move. They're- PASCAL DE LA FORSA: And just what do you think you're 14:55 doing in here? (THUNDER BOOMING) (MUSIC) EMMRICH: Oh, my sincere apologies for the intrusion, sir. 15:02 We thought the place to be abandoned. My companions and I were caught in the storm and needed shelter. 15:08 I am Emmrich, a watcher from the Grand Necropolis. And yourself? PASCAL: Pascal De La Forsa, master of this castle. 15:17 But if you are a watcher, then you are welcome to stay and pass the storm. 15:23 EMMRICH: Many thanks, my Lord. PASCAL: Please, call me Pascal. (NADIA CLEARS THROAT) NADIA: Emmrich...Drayden. 15:29 EMMRICH: Yes, apologies. Lord Pascal, our friend here is very sick and I need to perform a cleansing at once. 15:36 Do you perchance have a robust space in which I may do my duties? Ideally something with a conductive dimension. 15:43 PASCAL: Mmm yes, actually. The oratory. EMMRICH: Oh, lovely, that would be perfect. (ROLET GROANS) 15:49 PASCAL: He's not looking so great either. I'll arrange a chamber for him to rest his leg. ROLET: (groans) May the Maker bless your days. 15:56 PASCAL: Don't mention it. Everyone, follow me. ROLET: Manfred, if you would. 16:01 (FOOTSTEPS) (GRUNTING) 16:08 (MUSIC) (ECHOING FOOTSTEPS) 16:17 (ECHOING FOOTSTEPS) PASCAL: Here we are, apologies for the climb, 16:23 but the chambers we need are on the next story. EMMRICH: No apologies needed. You are doing us a most gracious favor. 16:30 Nadia, can you assist Manfred in helping Rolet up these stairs? NADIA: Of course. ROLET: Thanks. 16:35 (GROANING) PASCAL: So what exactly happened to you? ROLET: Tree got me ankle. PASCAL: Oh, ouch. 16:41 I'll ring for my sister to come set that for you. A splint and a strong drink should do the trick. 16:47 ROLET: Oh, that would be most lovely, my Lord. EMMRICH: Out of curiosity, how old is this place? 16:54 PASCAL: Generations. But it's normally not in such a dire state. We have boarded things up because of the tremors and such. 17:02 EMMRICH: Ah, yes, the anomalies. We've had our eyes cast upon them at the Grand Necropolis too. 17:07 Things have gotten strange in the lower crypts ever since the incident in the Silent Plains. 17:13 NADIA: The Silent Plains? EMMRICH: There was quite an explosion in a cave a few weeks back. 17:18 Its effects have reverberated throughout the area, compromising bits of the Veil. NADIA: (sighs) Elio... EMMRICH: I'm sorry, who? 17:26 NADIA: Nothing, I... just nothing. EMMRICH: Not to pry, but when's the last time you slept? 17:32 NADIA: Honestly, I'm not sure. EMMRICH: After I finish with Drayden, I shall want to have a look at you as well. 17:39 PASCAL: Here we are, The Oratory. (DOOR CREAKING) 17:45 Please, step inside. (MUSIC) 17:51 PASCAL: It's a bit drafty, but it should suffice... for your needs. 17:56 EMMRICH: This is most perfect, Pascal. If everyone would please excuse me while I get Drayden to the altar. 18:01 Manfred, the kit. (MANFRED GRUNTING) PASCAL: Nadia, was it? A hand with these lanterns. 18:07 (NADIA SIGHS) (FOOTSTEPS) NADIA: Sure. ROLET: Oh, what are these statues along the walls? 18:13 PASCAL: Those are the patriarchal lineage of this house, kept here as guides for the rest of us whenever we cross over. 18:20 The family crypt is down in the undercroft as well. ROLET: Oh, I don't like crypts. 18:26 PASCAL: I enjoy their silence. (MENACING SIGH) 18:34 NADIA: That's the last of the lanterns. PASCAL: Thank you. EMMRICH: Now I need to finish preparations, 18:39 but once the ritual begins, it shouldn't take long. However, with the poison's advancement, 18:45 I will most likely need to perform an exsanguination. (PIANO TRILL) PASCAL: Hmm, blood magic, such messy business. 18:51 EMMRICH: Ah, merely a cleansing. Nothing will be summoned, I give you my word. NADIA: Are you sure Drayden will be okay? 18:58 I just need to know they're in good hands. EMMRICH: Fret not, as I promised, I will save your friend. 19:05 PASCAL: The rest of us should go and let the watcher do his work. I'll show you to the chambers. 19:10 NADIA: One moment. (FOOTSTEPS) Please be safe. I promise I'll find you again. 19:18 (NADIA CLEARS HER THROAT) Alright, I'm ready. Good luck, Emmrich. 19:23 PASCAL: I'll shut the door behind us. (MANFRED GROANING) (DOOR CREAKING AND SHUTTING) 19:31 (PASCAL SNICKERING TO HIMSELF) PASCAL: This weather really is something. 19:37 (MUSIC) (FOOTSTEPS) NADIA: I'm curious. Were there no anomalies here 19:43 before the explosion that Emmrich spoke of? PASCAL: As I understand it, these events have been popping up all across Thedas, 19:50 and that was certainly the case here before whatever transpired in that cave. 19:56 (PASCAL GROANS) But after that, things changed. It was like something new was...unleashed 20:05 and everything got worse. So much worse. (WIND HOWLING) 20:11 ROLET: What do you mean unleashed? PASCAL: Just listen to this storm. Almost sounds like the Fade out there, no? 20:22 ROLET: Sorry? NADIA: Wait. You've been to the Fade? PASCAL: Oh no, personally, no. 20:28 Just the tales I've heard. I imagine it's similar. I'm really just thinking out loud. 20:34 NADIA: I see. PASCAL: Hold here, I need to ring my sister to let her know which chamber we'll be in. 20:40 (WOODEN DOOR CREAKS) ROLET: Oh, what's all that then? PASCAL: Servant's bells. 20:45 They're networked through the castle. A complex web of cords and strings allowing us to fulfill our every need 20:53 with the flick of a finger. (BELLS LIGHTLY JINGLING) Hmm, now let's see. 20:59 Which chamber shall we take? Oh, how about East Room Number One, the Hawthorn. 21:06 Yes, exquisite. (GEARS CRANKING) ROLET: (whispering) Who's he talking to? 21:12 NADIA: (whispering) Himself I think? I don't know. (BELLS CHIMING) 21:19 ROLET: Yikes, that gave me the chills. PASCAL: I find the reverberations to be most comforting. 21:27 ROLET: Yeah...okay. NADIA: How big is this place? 21:32 PASCAL: However big it needs to be. Come now, this way! (FOOTSTEPS) (WIND WHISTLING) 21:40 (MUSIC) (MUSIC) 21:48 (FOOTSTEPS) PASCAL: One moment while I unlock the door. 21:54 (KEYS JINGLING) (DOOR CREAKING) There you go. Warmest room in the castle, I promise. 22:00 (FOOTSTEPS) (FIRE CRACKLING) (RATTLING) (SCRATCHING) 22:06 (NADIA GASPS) NADIA: What was that? PASCAL: Someone here? (OBJECT SHUFFLING) Hello? 22:12 (OWL SCREECHING) (ALL YELPING) Tsk, damn owl's been sticking in here 22:17 since last week's big earthquake took a chunk out of the rooftop from this wing. Apologies for that, but I assure you the bed is most cozy. 22:28 ROLET: (stutters) It's fine. Thanks again, Pascal. PASCAL: I do so enjoy a good host. 22:34 Come now, give me a hand with our friend, Nadia. NADIA: Sure. (FOOTSTEPS) (BOTH GRUNTING) 22:42 ROLET: Oh! Feels so good to take the weight off of it. PASCAL: I imagine so. (KNOCKING) 22:48 (DOOR CREAKING OPEN) PASCAL: Ah! Here's my sister now. (WOMAN GIGGLING) This is Spinella. 22:54 Say hello why don't you. SPINELLA DE LA FORSA: Why hello there. 23:00 (PASCAL AND SPINELLA CHUCKLING) ROLET: Um, uh, hello. (FOOTSTEPS) SPINELLA: I brought some wood, cloth, and whiskey. 23:08 We're going to get you up and moving in no time. (SPINELLA GIGGLING) PASCAL: Isn't she wonderful? 23:15 Now, dear sister, please give that man the bottle. He needs a strong drink. 23:20 SPINELLA: Yes, here you go. Drink up! (BOTTLE SLOSHING) 23:26 ROLET: (stammering) Many, many thanks. (ROLET GULPING THE WHISKEY) (ROLET EXHALES WITH SATISFACTION) 23:33 (SPINELLA GIGGLES) SPINELLA: Now, which one of these little human legs is it, hmm? 23:39 ROLET: Uh...the right leg. SPINELLA: Mmm, we'll get you sorted in a jiffy! 23:45 (BODY CRACKING) ROLET: Ow! SPINELLA: Oh! ROLET: Easy, huh? SPINELLA: Oopsie, sorry about that. 23:52 (SPINELLA GIGGLES) NADIA: How long do these storms normally last? I have an urgent matter I need to get back to. 23:58 PASCAL: Oh, and what about your friend, Drayden? NADIA: They'll understand. Besides, they're in good hands with Emmrich. 24:06 PASCAL: I see. SPINELLA: Maybe it's just best if you relax. Perhaps a drink for you too. 24:13 NADIA: No, I'm good. SPINELLA: Oh, come on. It's not going to bite. 24:19 (LIQUID SLOSHING) PASCAL: You do look a little haggard, Nadia, if you can forgive my bluntness. Perhaps a little spirit is just what you need. 24:27 SPINELLA: It's really tasty, this one. A premium vintage. 24:32 (NADIA GROANS) NADIA: Fine. Hand it over. SPINELLA: Ah, that a girl. (giggling) 24:39 (LIQUID SLOSHING) (ROLET GROANING AND GURGLING) NADIA: Rolet? Rolet, what's wrong? 24:45 Why is he shaking like that? SPINELLA: Oh, he's fine. Nothing a little nappy nap won't fix. 24:51 (SPINELLA GIGGLING) NADIA: What did you do? (PASCAL HUMMING) 24:59 That tune, how do you know that? PASCAL: (singing) Bones, bones, down in the 'combs. 25:07 Bones, bones, down in the 'combs. NADIA: Stop it! (SPINELLA LAUGHING) 25:15 NADIA: (grunts) My head, everything's spinning. PASCAL: The spinning can be fun. 25:20 Here, take my hand for a dance. NADIA: (slurring) What did you do to me? 25:26 PASCAL: A little medicine to unburden that weary pain of yours. Doesn't it feel just...divine? (laughing) 25:33 (SPINELLA LAUGHING) (NADIA GAGGING) DEMON PASCAL: Oh, what's the matter? 25:40 Don't you like to dance? (laughing) 25:47 (MORTAR AND PESTLE CHURNING) 25:53 EMMRICH: Manfred, please hand me that green vial and those volcanic salts. (MANFRED GURGLING) (VIALS CLINKING) 25:59 (CORK POPPING) (LIQUID POURING) Okay, now please tilt their head so we can get this 26:06 down their gullet. (MANFRED GURGLING AND HISSING) (LIQUID POURING) That's it, we're almost done. 26:13 (MANFRED HISSING) And now, the knife. Remember, once the letting begins, 26:18 we cannot let the blood flow back into the body until it's been purified. 26:23 (FLESH SLICING) (MANFRED HISSING) (WHISPERS) Spirit fire of midnight suns, 26:29 through my spire of ill and ire, the wretched blood he blessed, not mired (words echoing) 26:37 (LIQUID BUBBLING) Manfred, stand back, I must direct the blood through the air without interruption. 26:43 But, be ready. (MANFRED HISSES) (BLOOD SLOSHES) Let the cleansing grace lead you 26:50 to thy spirit's place. Manfred, the blood has gathered. 26:55 Quickly, please, spark the flames with the silver power. (BLOOD SLOSHING) (MUSIC) 27:03 (BLOOD SLOSHING) 27:08 (LOUD CRACKLE) (BLOOD SLURPS BACK INTO DRAYDEN) Excellent work, friend! The blood is returning to the body. 27:14 Drayden's spirit has heard the call. Come on, Drayden, I can feel your spirit's might. 27:20 You are strong. You can do this, just fight. Fight for your place in this world. 27:25 (DRAYDEN GASPING AND COUGHING) That's it, you're almost home. Manfred, please smash the ampoule of Cetus bile. 27:31 (GLASS VIAL SMASHING) Drayden, I commit you once more to the flesh. Now, find this body and purge it of its trespass. 27:38 And...wake up! (words echoing) (DRAYDEN COUGHING AND RETCHING) 27:44 Drayden, are you okay? Drayden! (DRAYDEN COUGHING) There you are. Allow me a proper introduction. 27:50 I am Emmrich. DRAYDEN KIEL: I know who you are. EMMRICH: What? DRAYDEN: My spirit's been fazing in and out of this world. 27:56 You have to find Nadia. EMMRICH: There's nothing to worry about, Nadia's fine. She's just in the other room getting some rest. 28:02 DRAYDEN: No, she's in danger. You're all in danger. We have to get out of here. EMMRICH: Danger, whatever do you mean? 28:10 (MUSIC) (LOCKS CLINKING) 28:15 EMMRICH: Unfortunately, I am unsure of where exactly they went. DRAYDEN: Don't worry, I saw little glimpses of everything. 28:22 (MANFRED GURGLING) (FOOTSTEPS) There! At the wall. There should be a cupboard. 28:29 EMMRICH: Here, allow me to open it. DRAYDEN: Let me look. (DRAYDEN PANTING) 28:34 This one, what's it-? (grunts) What does it say? EMMRICH: Looks like it reads "East Room One." 28:41 DRAYDEN: That's it! That's where they went. EMMRICH: Well, then we go this way. Please take my arm for balance. 28:47 (BELLS CHIMING) ROLET: (muffled) Ow! EMMRICH: Look, over there at that door! 28:52 DRAYDEN: What is that light? It's so green. EMMRICH: I believe that is a magic they should not know. 28:58 Hold on while I get the door. (BELLS CHIMING) (EMMRICH GRUNTING) DRAYDEN: (grunting) It's bolted shut. 29:05 EMMRICH: I will fix that in one moment, but I need you both to step back. (LOUD ZAPPING) 29:13 (ROLET GRUNTING) DEMON SPINELLA: Yes, that's it, mister Rolet. 29:19 Just let your mind slip away and make room for thee, who is next. 29:24 Soon you will all be vessels for our kind. Soon we will return. 29:30 (RAPID FOOTSTEPS) (DEMON SPINELLA MOANS) DRAYDEN: See! She's possessed. 29:37 They both are. And they were planning to make everyone here a host for more like them. EMMRICH: Spirit, I am warning you to stop this right now. 29:45 DEMON SPINELLA: Piss off, human slime. EMMRICH: I do not wish to hurt you or the body you inhabit, 29:50 but I will not allow you to harm my companion. DEMON SPINELLA: Go back to your necropolis, death whisperer. 29:56 EMMRICH: I'm sorry, but that body does not belong to you. (EMMRICH GRUNTS) (MAGIC BOLT CRACKLES) (DEMON SCREAMS) 30:04 Spirit, you are not welcome here. And you are not welcome to that body. You shall leave now! 30:10 (MAGIC PULSING) Please relinquish her body before someone gets hurt. 30:16 (DEMON SCREECHING) (MAGIC BLASTING) (DEMON CRASHING TO THE GROUND) (OBJECTS CLATTERING) 30:22 I will not tell you again. (DEMON LAUGHING) DEMON SPINELLA: Oh, well, if I can't have her body, 30:28 then no one will! (DEMON YELLS) (BOTTLE SMASHES) EMMRICH: Easy now. Take that bottle away from your neck and put it down. 30:36 (DEMON LAUGHING) DEMON SPINELLA: Or else what? EMMRICH: Please, I beg of you. 30:41 DEMON SPINELLA: I want you to remember this moment clearly and painfully because this is on you! 30:50 EMMRICH: No, don't! (DEMON GRUNTING) (FLESH SQUELCHING) (DEMON CHOKING AND GURGLING) 30:55 EMMRICH: No! (DEMON CHOKING) 31:01 (DEMON THUDDING ON FLOOR) (FOOTSTEPS) DRAYDEN: Hey, don't listen to her. 31:09 This isn't on you. (DRAYDEN GRUNTING) This was all them. 31:14 (MANFRED GURGLING) ROLET: (grunts) Hello? 31:20 What happened? Where am I? EMMRICH: You're okay, you're back now. 31:26 A lot has happened, but there's no time for an explanation. Manfred will stay with you for now, but Drayden and I must find Nadia. 31:32 Do you know where they went? ROLET: I, I don't. Last thing I remember, 31:39 we were all in here about to have a drink. EMMRICH: That's how they got them. Drugged! 31:45 DRAYDEN: We have to find her. EMMRICH: What about your vision? (DRAYDEN GROANS) DRAYDEN: (stutters) I can't see anything beyond 31:52 the start of the cleansing. ROLET: Wait. EMMRICH: What is it? ROLET: He said something...about a...a crypt. 32:01 DRAYDEN: Oh, that'll be crawling with spirits. That must be it. EMMRICH: Let's go! 32:08 DRAYDEN: You...you go ahead. I'll catch up when I can. Please, just save her. 32:15 EMMRICH: She'll be safe. We'll make sure of it. (MANFRED HISSING) (MUSIC) 32:23 (MUSIC) (MUSIC) 32:30 DEMON PASCAL: What's this? Already rousing from that elixir? (laughing) You are special. 32:36 Now I see why he wants you and me, the lucky one. You just stumbled right into my lap. 32:42 He shall be pleased. Just hang tight. (NADIA GROANING) 32:47 DEMON PASCAL: (chanting) O-NAY, AH-TAY. DEMON PASCAL: (chanting) O-NAY, AH-TAY. SCAH-TOE, TOW-BRAY. 32:57 (DEMON CHANTING) (BOOMING) (FADE RIPPING OPEN) 33:06 Come forth, shadows, come forth! The light is yours to darken! 33:13 (SPIRITS SCURRYING AND GRUNTING) 33:20 (DEMON GROWLING) DEMON ONE: And you've got fresh meat. 33:26 DEMON PASCAL: Back away from her, vermin, this one's for Maeror. (DEMON HISSES) 33:33 (DEMON ROARS) 33:40 ELIO: Nadia, wake up. Come on, Nadia. You can fight this. 33:46 You can still save me, but you have to get up. Nadia! (SPIRIT SHRIEKING) 33:52 (NADIA GASPS AWAKE) DEMON PASCAL: What, how? 34:00 NADIA: Because I found something to believe in. DEMON PASCAL: (laughing) Silly human, this could've been 34:06 so painless for you. EMMRICH: Nadia, watch out! (MAGIC BLASTING) (DEMON ROARING) 34:12 DEMON PASCAL: Oh, you little bug. Well, what are you bastards waiting for? Get him! 34:19 EMMRICH: Nadia, get behind me! (NADIA GRUNTING) (EMMRICH SHOUTING) (STONE CRUMBLING) 34:25 NADIA: What is that? EMMRICH: A wall to keep them away from us until that Fade tear grows unstable and shuts itself down. 34:30 NADIA: How long will that take? EMMRICH: I don't know, but we must stand firm. NADIA: No, I can fix this. 34:35 EMMRICH: What? NADIA: Just trust me. Elio, please help me. Elio, I know you're here. 34:42 We need you, please. EMMRICH: That name again. EMMRICH: Who is Elio? ELIO: Nadia! (MAGIC CRACKLING) 34:48 (DEMON SCREAMING) (DEMON SCREAMING) 35:02 ELIO: Hello, Nadia. NADIA: How did you do that? ELIO: (words echoing) I'm an Altus Mage, remember? NADIA: (words echoing) Is it you? 35:08 Is it really you? ELIO: Of course, my love. Who else would it be? NADIA: You mean I finally found you? 35:15 ELIO: You did, because I found this. NADIA: The ring! You have my ring! 35:21 ELIO: And I'll never let it go. NADIA: Oh Elio, come on. Let's go home. 35:27 Let's get out of here. ELIO: We can't. Not yet. NADIA: What, why? 35:33 ELIO: Because you have to come with me. It's not safe here. But I can take us someplace that is. Somewhere for the both of us. 35:40 NADIA: But I... ELIO: Don't you trust me? NADIA: Of course, I just... EMMRICH: (in the distance) No, Nadia! 35:48 ELIO: Hey, you and me, remember? NADIA: Me and you. ELIO: Now, just take my hand. 35:55 EMMRICH: (in the distance) No, Nadia, wait, no! ELIO: Give me your hand. (ELECTRIC CRACKLE) 36:02 (ELECTRIC BOOMING) EMMRICH: Nadia, Nadia, no! 36:09 DRAYDEN: What happened? Where's Nadia? EMMRICH: Elio, what can you tell me of Elio? 36:15 DRAYDEN: That's who we've been searching for. He was trapped in the Fade...why? EMMRICH: Because I'm afraid she's been lied to, both of you. 36:23 Whatever that was, it wasn't human. NADIA: This place, it doesn't feel right. 41:09 ELIO: It's because this place isn't right. It's a living nightmare, and it's where you left me. 41:16 DRAYDEN: Elio's been trapped in the Fade ever since and we've been trying to rescue him. SPEAKER 1: For the love of nugs, how could anyone survive 41:22 in the Fade for so long? DRAYDEN: That's the thing, I don't think he did. I think something bad, a demon perhaps, is posing as Elio 41:31 to lure Nadia into some sort of trap. NADIA: Elio, what's happening? 41:38 Where did you go? (PERSON HUMMING) (NADIA GROANING) (PERSON HUMMING) 41:45 DRAYDEN: Neve, think you can use your network to figure out where to look? NEVE: You know I can. Let's find your friend 41:51 and send this demon back to where he came from. (MUSIC)
Dragon Age: Vows and Vengeance | Episode 8: All Roads Lead Home
Emmrich learns the deadly truth behind Nadia’s escape to Minrathous, which sends Drayden on one last mission: uniting a team of heroes with Neve, Harding, and Varric to save Nadia from an unimaginable fate.
0:01 NARRATOR: This podcast features adult language, violent imagery, and mature themes. Listener discretion is advised. 0:08 (MUSIC) DRAYDEN KIEL: What happened? Where's Nadia? EMMRICH VOLKARIN: Elio? What can you tell me of Elio? 0:16 DRAYDEN: But that's who we've been searching for. He was trapped in the Fade. Why? 0:21 EMMRICH: Because I'm afraid she's been lied to. Both of you. Whatever that was, it wasn't human. 0:28 (MUSIC) DRAYDEN: What do you mean he wasn't human? 0:33 EMMRICH: I mean, I know spirits. I've spent my life in the presence of death and magic. 0:38 As a member of the Mourn Watch, it is my sacred duty to protect the innocent from threats of an undead nature. 0:44 As such, I have developed a keen eye for even the slightest disruption of energy, light, and presence. 0:51 With humans, you have a specific flame, if you will, a sort of spark or animation 0:57 that spirits can only mimic, but there's always something in the details that gives it away. 1:02 And whoever that was, I'm sorry to say, they did not have this flame. 1:08 They were cold and heavy. And at the risk of causing you alarm, I fear your friend is in grave danger. 1:17 DRAYDEN: Then I must go at once. EMMRICH: Drayden, I understand your feelings, but you are in no shape. DRAYDEN: And if the tables were reversed, 1:23 that wouldn't stop Nadia. She'd do whatever it took. So please, what can you tell me about where they've gone? 1:30 EMMRICH: Only that I overheard the entity tell Nadia that it was time to go home. DRAYDEN: Home? 1:36 (FOOTSTEPS) Minrathous! He's taking her to Minrathous. EMMRICH: Given the weather, that will be no easy trek, 1:43 but it's clear that I cannot stop you. So at the very least, let me provide you with some tonics and a potion or two to protect you from the cold. 1:51 Manfred, would you please fetch my kit? (MANFRED GROWLS AND HISSES) 1:57 DRAYDEN: Thank you, Emmrich. I hope that our paths cross again. EMMRICH: As do I. 2:03 And I wish you the best of luck. (MUSIC) NARRATOR: This is Dragon Age: Vows and Vengeance. 2:12 Chapter Eight: All Roads Lead Home. 2:17 (FOOTSTEPS) (BREATHING) ELIO ANDANTE: Not too much farther now. (NADIA GROANS AND SIGHS) 2:23 NADIA CARCOSA: Elio, where are we going? ELIO: Patience, my dear Nadia. Oh, we're almost there. 2:29 (FOOTSTEPS) (NADIA GASPS) NADIA: Wherever we're going, can we please hurry? 2:37 ELIO: Hurry? NADIA: Sorry. But I don't like it here in the Fade. 2:43 I want to leave. ELIO: And I wanted to leave for weeks now, but I couldn't. I've been waiting patiently for you 2:49 after I got stuck here because of you enduring things you cannot even begin to imagine. 2:56 And now, oh, now you have the audacity to tell me to hurry? NADIA: I'm sorry, I just- 3:02 ELIO: You just what? NADIA: I'm...I'm just scared, okay? This place, it doesn't feel right. 3:11 ELIO: It's because this place isn't right. It's a living nightmare. 3:17 And it's where you left me. (NADIA GASPS) NADIA: Why are you being like this? 3:22 ELIO: Like what? NADIA: Mean. (ELIO SCOFFS) (RAPID FOOTSTEPS) 3:28 NADIA: Hey, wait up! (FOOTSTEPS) ELIO: Instead of talking, quiet your mind 3:34 and just let yourself feel this place. Really feel it, hmm? 3:41 The air. Cold and saturated, bottomless pain. Energy rippling in every direction. 3:48 Constant flux, constant shadows. And that spire of darkness in the sky. 3:54 The Black City watching your every move. Try to consider what that might do to one's mind, hmm? 4:00 To my mind. (NADIA GASPING) 4:06 NADIA: Elio. I- ELIO: I said don't talk. Just be present. Just feel this place as it is. 4:15 Now, come on. I can feel where the Veil is weak. We're close to where we can cross over. 4:21 (FOOTSTEPS) Shh. Listen. (FAINT HUMMING) 4:26 Do you hear that? (ELIO GROANS AND INHALES) We're here. 4:32 NADIA: Here where? ELIO: Stand back. (ELIO CHANTING IN STRANGE TONGUE) 4:43 (MAGICAL CRACKLING) (NADIA GASPS) NADIA: What is that? ELIO: A portal. It's our only way out. 4:50 Now go. NADIA: I don't understand. If you could create a portal, why didn't you do that to escape? 4:56 ELIO: Because I couldn't do it alone. I needed you. It's our connection that gives me the power. 5:04 So jump! NADIA: No, I won't leave you again. We go together. 5:09 ELIO: Nadia, you have to go first or this won't work. Now, hurry. I can only hold this for so long. 5:15 (NADIA PANTING) Would you jump already? NADIA: Fine. 5:21 (RUNNING FOOTFALLS) (NADIA GRUNTING) (MAGICAL ZAPS) 5:27 (NADIA THUDS AND GRUNTS) (NADIA GROANS) (NADIA COUGHS) 5:33 (MAGICAL ZAPS) (ELIO THUDS AND GRUNTS) Elio! (RAPID FOOTFALLS) (ELIO COUGHING AND GROANING) 5:39 NADIA: Hey, look at me. Are you okay? (ELIO PANTING) Ow! You pinched me. 5:46 ELIO: I just...I just had to be sure this was real. Finally real. Finally, the flesh. 5:54 (ELIO GRUNTING AND GROANING) (ELIO YAWNING AND CRACKING BONES) 6:02 Oh, the body. It feels so different out here. 6:08 Less pressure, less pain. Light. 6:14 Free. (FOOTSTEPS) NADIA: Wait, do you hear that? (RATS SQUEAKING) 6:19 ELIO: Rats, Nadia. It's only rats. (RATS SQUEAKING) NADIA: Rats? 6:25 Where are we? ELIO: Oh, don't you recognize it, hmm? The...the feeling, the smell, that energy. 6:34 NADIA: Elio, it's practically pitch black in here. ELIO: Oh, then allow me to illuminate things for you. 6:40 (ELIO SNAPS HIS FINGERS) (TORCHES SPARK) Here, does the light help you remember? 6:46 NADIA: No. No. It can't be. ELIO: Yes, Nadia. It can. 6:53 We are home. You're home. The catacombs. 6:59 (MUSIC) 7:04 (CROWS CAWING) (THUNDER CRASHING) 7:09 (CROWS CAWING) (THUNDER CRASHING) 7:18 (DOOR CREAKING OPEN) (PATRONS CHATTERING) 7:23 (PATRONS CHATTERING) BARKEEP: Hey, Neve. Fancy a drink? 7:29 NEVE GALLUS: Mm, not right now. How about our friend? Are they here yet? 7:35 BARKEEP: Yeah. He went to his room. Number four. End of the hall, but- 7:40 NEVE: But what? BARKEEP: He seemed a little out of sorts. Not his 7:46 usual self. NEVE: Everyone's a little off these days. 7:52 (MUSIC) (FOOTSTEPS) (FLOORBOARDS CREAK) 7:59 (MUFFLED SOUND OF A CROSSBOW) NEVE: Um, hello? (MUFFLED SOUND OF ARROWING WHOOSHING) 8:05 Are you all right in there? Door's locked. You'll need to let me in. (OBJECT MOVING ACROSS THE FLOOR) 8:12 (FOOTSTEPS THUDDING) (DOOR CREAKS OPEN) 8:17 Varric, what are you doing? VARRIC TETHRAS: Just keeping Bianca in shape. NEVE: Bianca? 8:23 Oh, right, your crossbow. (CROSSBOW LOADING) (ARROW WHOOSHING) Everything okay? 8:28 (VARRIC GRUNTING) (ARROWS WHOOSHING) VARRIC: Just clearing my head. NEVE: Let's clear your head without shooting rounds 8:35 of darts into the walls. (VARRIC GROANS) VARRIC: You're no fun, Neve Gallus. Always straight to business. (OBJECT THUDS) 8:42 NEVE: We don't have time for fun. Anomalies are getting worse. Do you have any new leads on Solas? 8:48 VARRIC: Orlais was a bust. Trail's been cold for weeks now. Any chance the Shadow Dragons have anything new? 8:54 NEVE: Do you think I'd be asking about Orlais if they did? VARRIC: Hmm. 9:00 What I think is that Solas is five steps ahead of us. He could be anywhere. 9:05 Dug in somewhere in the Hinterlands, or for all we know, right under our noses. 9:11 NEVE: Where's Harding? VARRIC: She'll be back soon. She had an old contact she thought she'd try. 9:17 NEVE: (sighs) Come on, let's wait for her downstairs. Drinks on me? VARRIC: Okay, but only because you are buying. 9:27 (DOOR CREAKS) (PATRONS CHATTERING) (DOOR CLOSES) 9:32 (PATRONS CHATTERING) (OBJECTS CLANKING) DRAYDEN: So here we are, the infamous Tattered Veil. 9:39 I can see why Nadia loved this place. But where to begin? Excuse me? 9:45 SURLY MAN: Ugh. Whatever it is, I'm not interested. DRAYDEN: I'm just looking for some information. 9:51 And you seem like the sort to either have it or to know where to get it. (SURLY MAN DRINKING) 9:56 SURLY MAN: Maybe I am. What's it worth to you? (COINS JINGLING) DRAYDEN: That much. (COIN PURSE THUDS) 10:03 SURLY MAN: Mmm. I like the sound of that. (COINS CLINKING) DRAYDEN: I thought you might. 10:09 SURLY MAN: If you want to know anything about anything here in Minrathous, you need to talk to Neve Gallus. 10:16 DRAYDEN: And who is Neve Gallus? (SURLY MAN GRUNTS) SURLY MAN: Private investigator with eyes and ears 10:21 all over the city. She's the one you want. DRAYDEN: Where might I find her? 10:26 SURLY MAN: That's her now. Walking down the steps with that dwarf. DRAYDEN: Thanks. 10:32 Enjoy the coin. (MAN GROANS) (FOOTSTEPS) (COINS JINGLING) (CHAIR THUDS) DRUNK: Oy! Watch it. 10:38 DRAYDEN: (stuttering) Sorry. (PATRONS CHATTERING) DRAYDEN: Excuse me, are you Neve Gallus? 10:45 NEVE: Who's asking? LACE HARDING: Drayden? DRAYDEN: Harding? (HARDING LAUGHS) HARDING: It's so good to see you, but why are you here? 10:54 DRAYDEN: Nadia. I'm looking for Nadia. HARDING: Nadia? I thought she was with you. DRAYDEN: She was, but we've recently been separated. 11:01 Look, I don't mean to be curt, but- NEVE: Sorry to interrupt, but are you talking about Nadia Carcosa? 11:07 DRAYDEN: I am... NEVE: The Nadia Carcosa that took off with the Eye of Kethisca? HARDING: How do you know Nadia? 11:13 NEVE: I was about to ask you the same. VARRIC: Who the hell is Nadia Carcosa? HARDING: She's the one I told you about, Varric. 11:19 The one from Raven's Brook. We took out that death cult together. VARRIC: Oh yes, right. 11:25 DRAYDEN: Hold on, did you say Varric? As in Varric Tethras, the author? VARRIC: The one and only. 11:30 DRAYDEN: I loved "Darktown's Deal." I know most people are all about "Hard In Hightown," 11:35 but the way you captured every smell and every corner in Darktown, oh, just truly magnificent. 11:43 VARRIC: Finally, someone who gets it. HARDING: Varric, allow me to introduce Drayden Kiel, 11:48 writer, scholar, and historian. DRAYDEN: You remembered my spiel? HARDING: You're not an easy one to forget. 11:54 NEVE: Can someone please fill me in on all of this? HARDING: Drayden, Nadia, and I ran into some trouble 11:59 a few weeks back, and then we split. I gave them a tip about Solas and- wait... Any luck with that info? 12:06 DRAYDEN: No luck, but the tip was right. We just missed the Dread Wolf outside of Ramshackle, 12:11 but that's when things went sideways. VARRIC: So...Solas was in Ramshackle? 12:17 DRAYDEN: Yes. He had some miners digging for something in the Deep Roads. NEVE: Do you know what he was looking for? 12:23 DRAYDEN: I don't, but we discovered an ancient chamber that opened a series of portals in the Fade. 12:29 VARRIC: That doesn't sound good. DRAYDEN: But that's when we found Elio, so our focus changed. 12:34 NEVE: Elio? As in Magister Elio Andante? DRAYDEN: Yes. NEVE: What was he doing in the Fade? 12:40 DRAYDEN: The artifact they took, it exploded during a ritual with Solas. Elio's been trapped in the Fade ever since 12:47 and we've been trying to rescue him. VARRIC: For the love of nugs, how could anyone survive in the Fade for so long? 12:53 DRAYDEN: That's the thing. I don't think he did. I think something bad, a demon perhaps, 13:00 is posing as Elio to lure Nadia into some sort of trap. NEVE: Why come here to look for her? 13:06 DRAYDEN: The demon said something about taking her home, and that's Minrathous. But I don't have the first clue where to look 13:13 now that I'm here. So I would very much appreciate your help, all of you. 13:18 HARDING: You know I'm down to kick some demon butt. VARRIC: Count me in, too. I want to talk to this Nadia 13:23 about whatever went down with Solas. Could be the break we've been looking for. DRAYDEN: Neve, I'm told you have eyes all over this city. 13:31 You think you can use your network to figure out where to look? NEVE: You know I can. Let's find your friend and send this demon 13:38 back to where he came from. (MUSIC) 13:46 (NADIA GASPS) (ELIO WHISTLING) 13:51 ELIO: (singing) Here we are back where it all began. 13:56 Back where little Nadia Carcosa first hardened her little stone heart. 14:03 NADIA: Elio, why would you bring me here? You know how I feel about this place. 14:09 ELIO: I do, yeah. And that's exactly why I brought you here. It's time that you finally face the truth of who you are. 14:17 (WATER DRIPPING) (ELIO SNAPS FINGERS) (CHILDREN LAUGHING AND MURMURING) 14:23 NADIA: No, no. Stop it. Please. Please, I can't. 14:29 ELIO: But I'm not doing anything. These are just your memories coming to the surface. 14:34 It's all in your head. (MAGICAL TWINKLE) NADIA: Elio? Elio! What's happening? 14:43 Where did you go? Elio! (FOOTSTEPS SQUELCHING) 14:48 (ELIO HUMMING) (NADIA GRUNTS) 14:54 Stop it! SPIRIT CHILDREN: (singing) Bones, bones, down in the combs. (NADIA GROANING) 15:00 SPIRIT CHILDREN: (singing) Bones, bones, down in the combs. (ELIO HUMMING) 15:05 I said stop it! ELIO: How long did they leave you down here? 15:10 Eight days? Oh, it's nine. NADIA: Elio, please. ELIO: Remember how you felt, 15:15 how you lost sense of everything? Time, sanity, safety. 15:22 NADIA: I am begging you. ELIO: But then what happened? You embraced the darkness. 15:28 You opened your heart to the shadows of all of that fear just...vanished! (ELIO BLOWS AIR) 15:35 NADIA: Just make it stop! ELIO: It's okay. Shh, shh, shh, shh, shh. 15:42 Here I am, Nadia. It's okay. (NADIA CRYING) NADIA: What is going on? 15:47 Where did you just go? ELIO: I told you, it's all in your head. Your memories from this place are playing tricks on you. 15:55 If you want them to stop, you need to confront them. Let yourself feel all the pain and hurt 16:01 you've been running from. NADIA: No, I can't. 16:06 I won't. ELIO: Don't you get it? You can't keep running from who you are. 16:11 And the more you do, the more pain you'll bring into your life. NADIA: Shut up! 16:17 ELIO: Oh, even back then as a child, you knew you hated it down here. You despised having to live on top 16:23 of all these wretched old bones. But what else could your pathetic Liberati parents afford? 16:30 NADIA: Shut up! ELIO: And yet, despite all the hate you had for this place, 16:35 as soon as you thought it could win you some friends, you jumped at the opportunity to come down here 16:42 and show how brave you were. But those kids had no interest in your bravery, 16:49 did they? SPIRIT CHILDREN: (singing) Bones, bones, down in the combs. 16:55 ELIO: In fact, they had no interest in you whatsoever. 17:00 You were nothing to them, just some dirty little street trash they could have their fun with. 17:07 So they locked you down here. No food, no water, just you, 17:14 the darkness, and the rats. And then they went about their lives 17:20 like you didn't even exist. NADIA: I am warning you...shut...up! 17:26 ELIO: You were lucky your worthless father even cared enough to come find you. But deep down you always, 17:32 oh, you always wished he hadn't. Isn't that right? NADIA: Elio, I am not going to warn you again. 17:40 ELIO: Do you remember the look on his face when he found you? His shock, his horror. 17:46 I mean, there was his innocent little girl drinking the blood from a dead rat. 17:52 It was the first time he saw you for the animal that you are. (NADIA SOBBING) NADIA: Why are you doing this to me? 17:59 ELIO: Because I need to show you who you really are. NADIA: I know who I am! 18:04 I'm the one you asked to marry you. ELIO: You ran away when I asked for your hand! You're the one who always runs away. 18:13 NADIA: That's not true. ELIO: No? What about when you left your father alone so you could run off on adventures with that idiot Olen? 18:20 NADIA: We needed the money! ELIO: And then he got sick. Oh, and then he died. 18:27 NADIA: (sobbing) I didn't know he was sick. ELIO: It's a pattern, Nadia. Don't you see it? Whenever things get too difficult or too real, you leave. 18:35 And the people in your life are left to suffer just as I had to suffer in the Fade. NADIA: No, I did everything I could to find you. Everything! 18:44 ELIO: Really? NADIA: Yes! ELIO: Then why were you in Nevarra? NADIA: What? ELIO: Nevarra. Why were you there? 18:52 NADIA: Drayden. They...they were ill, poisoned and dying. I had to- ELIO: You had to what, hmm? 19:00 Spend weeks trying to save some, some stranger while I sat in here being tortured 19:06 every moment of every day? Your vow was to me, not Drayden! NADIA: I'm sorry, they- ELIO: They what? 19:14 NADIA: They risked their life to help me save you. I owed them. ELIO: (demonic) You owed me! 19:24 (CRICKETS CHIRPING) (MUSIC) 19:31 (DOVE COOING) VARRIC: Where are we headed, Neve? NEVE: Old shipyard just ahead. We'll be meeting one of my most trusted associates, Huxley. 19:38 HARDING: This Huxley, did they already find something? NEVE: I alerted every connection I've ever had for this one. 19:44 If so much as a single crate has been moved in the last 24 hours, we'll know. 19:49 DRAYDEN: Thank you, Neve. NEVE: Don't mention it. We've got a common goal on this one. (CRICKETS CHIRPING) (HAMMERS STRIKING) 19:56 VARRIC: Is this the right shipyard? NEVE: It is. Everyone inside. 20:01 (CRICKETS CHIRPING) (HAMMERS STRIKING) (MUFFLED SOUNDS OF HAMMERS STRIKING) 20:08 (WHISTLING) (WHISTLING) 20:17 (FOOTSTEPS) HUXLEY DEL VECCHIO: Hey, Neve. NEVE: Hey, Huxley. What do you got for us? HUXLEY: I sent some feelers out around Dock Town, 20:23 just digging up what we could about Nadia's life. We started with that guy you saw get killed, Vik, 20:29 and we tracked down his family. That led us to this insufferable blow hard named Olen, but he was frightened something awful. 20:36 Took us a good while just to convince him we weren't there to kill him. But he eventually gave up the goods on where she grew up. 20:42 An old home in the Salts. HARDING: What are the Salts? NEVE: It's a slum where a bunch of people died 20:48 because the owners ignored an infestation of silver brine mold to save some coin. 20:54 HUXLEY: Yep. And turns out that Nadia's father was one of the ones that died. DRAYDEN: Oh, I knew she had it bad, 21:00 but I didn't know she lost her father like that too. VARRIC: This old house of hers, how far is it from here? 21:07 HUXLEY: The Salts are close, but they're dangerous, so we sent a scout ahead. House was empty, but they heard some...disturbances down below. 21:15 VARRIC: Below? NEVE: You don't mean the old catacombs? HUXLEY: I'm afraid so. 21:21 HARDING: Sorry. What are the old catacombs? HUXLEY: They're a reminder of how cruel this city can be. 21:27 Neve here knows all about them. NEVE: The Qunari invaded Minrathous back in the Steel Age. 21:34 (MUSIC) (SOUNDS OF FIGHTING) They weren't able to capture the city, but the attacks were so brutal, 21:41 they left a mark on it that's still felt today. (PEOPLE SCREAMING) 21:47 During the last wave of bombardments, a big chunk of the catacombs collapsed, cutting them off from the rest of the tunnels. 21:54 (EARTH CRUMBLING) They were so badly damaged, 21:59 the leaders decided they weren't worth fixing and wound up forgotten. 22:05 The only people who dared to go down into their depths was the occasional Liberati seeking someplace quiet 22:12 to end their suffering. (PEOPLE SHOUTING) (MUSIC) (MUSIC) 22:23 VARRIC: Didn't know things were so bad under Minrathous. NEVE: There are cracks in everything, Varric. 22:28 HARDING: Even glorious civilizations. DRAYDEN: It sounds like the perfect place for a demon looking to enter into this world. 22:35 HARDING: You're right about that. VARRIC: We should go immediately. NEVE: Nice work, Huxley. 22:40 HUXLEY: Thanks, Neve. Good luck. NEVE: Alright, everyone follow me. (MUSIC) 22:51 (NADIA CRYING) NADIA: How can I fix this? Tell me. 22:59 ELIO: There is a simple solution, a way that lets us move forward beyond all of this. 23:07 NADIA: How? ELIO: By saving me, but for real. 23:14 NADIA: (stuttering) I don't understand. ELIO: Invite me in. 23:19 NADIA: What do you mean in? (ELIO BREATHES DEEPLY) ELIO: Let me take over your body. 23:25 It's the only way I can truly come back from the Fade now. (RATS SQUEALING) NADIA: (stuttering) I don't understand. 23:31 ELIO: Nadia, I was in there too long. All that energy. The Lyrium. 23:37 My body's been corrupted. I can feel it dying as we speak. 23:43 I don't have that much time left. NADIA: No. What are you saying? ELIO: I'm saying that if I don't get a new body, 23:52 I'm going to die. And soon. But you can save me by giving me yours. 23:58 NADIA: But...what about me? ELIO: Oh, you'll be fine, I promise. It'll be just like going to sleep. 24:06 You'll slip back into that darkness you love so much and you won't have to think about anything or anyone. 24:12 (WATER DRIPPING) NADIA: (crying) Elio, I don't know about this, I- 24:18 ELIO: I know it's scary, but I am dying because of you. 24:24 I asked you to marry me and you got so scared that you ran off to steal an artifact. 24:30 NADIA: But I didn't mean for any of this to happen. ELIO: Oh, it doesn't matter what you meant. It still happened and now you...owe me. 24:40 NADIA: What you're asking of me... ELIO: Well, just think of all the good I can do if I live. 24:45 I'll still be an Altus mage. But you? What are you going to do? 24:52 Keep thieving until you wind up dead or in jail? How is that the best choice for either of us? 24:58 (MUSIC) (WATER DRIPPING) NADIA: Okay. ELIO: What was that? 25:04 NADIA: I said, okay. You can have me. (ELIO GASPING) 25:10 ELIO: Oh, Nadia. (laughs) Oh Nadia, you make me so happy. And now we get to be together forever. 25:18 Oh, just close your eyes, my love. And this will all be over soon. 25:24 (distorted) (chanting) Energies of darkness, unburden the lost from their prisons of misery. 25:31 Invoke our sacred Veil as we cross the barrier from one mind to the next. (NADIA SCREAMING) 25:37 DRAYDEN: Stop! NADIA: Drayden? DRAYDEN: Nadia, wait! That's not Elio! 25:43 (NADIA GROANING AND GRUNTING) NADIA: Drayden, what are you doing here? DRAYDEN: I've come to save you. 25:49 That's not Elio, it's a demon. And you have to fight it now. (ELIO ROARING) ELIO: You meddling swine! 25:56 You think the likes of you can stop me? DRAYDEN: Me? No, but I brought friends. 26:03 HARDING: Hey, Nadia! (MUSIC) NADIA: Uh, Harding? HARDING: I still owe you one for Raven's Brook. NEVE: I told you back on those docks, 26:09 I'm not going to let you leave. NADIA: Neve! (CROSSBOW CLANKING) VARRIC: You don't know me, but if these two have 26:14 got your back, as far as I'm concerned, you're family. DRAYDEN: And you already are my family. 26:20 So whatever happens today, it happens to both of us. You can break your record! 30:18 (HARDING YELLING) (ARROWS WHOOSHING) (DEMONS SHRIEKING) MAEROR: I have had enough of you all! 30:24 (MAEROR ROARS) (MUSIC) (MAEROR ROARS) (ICE MAGIC CRACKLES) (HARDING SCREAMS) (HARDING GRUNTS) 30:33 NEVE: Don't let that ice touch you. NADIA: Say whatever you want, Maeror. 31:35 But I'm done with your lies. You don't hold any power over me now. 31:40 MAEROR: Such a shame. I've- MAEROR: And now, she finally sees. 31:59 NADIA: You were here when I was a child. It was you. (NADIA GASPING) 32:05 You were the thing that followed me in the dark. MAEROR: Yes, it was me. 32:11 And the pain and hopelessness that coursed through your veins tasted oh so sweet. 32:20 NADIA: That's why my father had so much trouble finding me. You led me deeper and deeper into the maze. 32:26 It was you that didn't want me to be found. MAEROR: It's true. He took you from me. 32:33 But not before I left my mark on you. That dark cloud that followed you every day after, 32:41 that was me. I made you. 32:48 NADIA: No. MAEROR: Oh, and Harding was surprised when the three of you opened that rift with the Eye 32:55 and I stumbled upon you once more. But all this time, I wasn't going to lose you again. 33:03 NADIA: Tell me you didn't. MAEROR: Oh yes, I killed him and I killed him quick. 33:11 NADIA: No. MAEROR: He was the key to getting you back, but now you've ruined everything. 33:17 (NADIA SOBBING) NADIA: Elio's gone. He's really gone. 33:24 MAEROR: Don't worry. You're about to join him. And then I think I'll be taking your friend instead. 33:34 There's much pain in that one. Much pain. 33:43 NADIA: You won't lay a finger on them. MAEROR: There's nothing you can do to stop me. 33:50 NADIA: Watch me! (NADIA GRUNTING) 33:57 MAEROR: That's it! Come on, Nadia. Let me feel all that pain, all that despair. 34:04 (ICE CRACKLING) (MAEROR GRUNTING) (NADIA GRUNTING) 34:10 (MAEROR LAUGHING) MAEROR: You can't dodge them all. (NADIA GRUNTING) 34:35 (DAGGER SLICING) (MAEROR SCREAMING) For my mother, my father! (NADIA GRUNTING) (MAEROR SCREAMING) 34:40 Those nights in the catacombs. (MAEROR SCREAMING) And for everyone I've ever lost because of what you put into my heart 34:48 when I was just a child. (NADIA GRUNTING) Be gone, Maeror! 34:54 And stay the fuck out of my life... (DAGGER SLICING) (MAEROR SCREAMING) ...forever! 34:59 (DAGGER SLICING) And this ring belongs to me! (DAGGER CLANGING) (MAEROR ROARING) 35:04 (NADIA PANTING) (RAPID FOOTSTEPS) Drayden, Drayden! (CORK POPS) 37:04 The healer said it'll help with the damage to your lungs. NADIA: Thanks, Neve. (BOTTLE CLINKS) NEVE: You really took a beating. 37:11 That ice ripped right through you. You'll never fight again. But once you're feeling better, let me know. 37:18 And we'll get you one of these prosthetics. NADIA: I would like that very much. NEVE: In the meantime, here's a cane to help you walk. 37:27 NADIA: Drayden, can you give me a hand? DRAYDEN: Of course. Come on. (NADIA GRUNTS) 37:32 Everything else is ready and waiting. (MUSIC) 37:39 (HORSE TROTTING) (HORSE TROTTING) 37:47 DRAYDEN: This was Elio's estate? NADIA: Yep. DRAYDEN: It's gorgeous. NADIA: Hmm. 37:53 I loved it here when spring blossomed. Most peaceful place you'd ever want to be, 37:58 especially with him. DRAYDEN: I'm sorry I never got to meet him. NADIA: Me too, Books. He would've liked you a lot. 38:07 (DRAYDEN CHUCKLES SOFTLY) (SOFT FOOTSTEPS) VARRIC: There's our warrior. 38:12 How are you feeling? (NADIA SIGHS) NADIA: Surprisingly good, considering all the puncture wounds. 38:19 NEVE: That's probably all the potions we have you on. (laughs) I'm surprised you didn't fly here. 38:25 (NADIA LAUGHS) HARDING: I've said it before, but you're a heck of a fighter, Nadia Carcosa. 38:31 NADIA: It's good to see you. All of you. VARRIC: Wouldn't have missed it. HARDING: And I got the flowers. 38:38 Andraste's Grace, just like you requested. (NADIA SIGHS) 38:44 NADIA: He loved these. HARDING: They sure are pretty. (NADIA SIGHS) 39:06 DRAYDEN: You got this. (NADIA CLEARS HER THROAT) (MUSIC) NADIA: Sometimes it seems like it was just yesterday 39:15 when we first stumbled into each other at Wintersend. Your easy smile, your friendly eyes, 39:23 the way our energy just seemed to immediately harmonize. 39:29 (laughs) The way you laughed when you asked for me to politely return your coin purse. 39:34 (ALL LAUGHING) From the very first moment, 39:40 you showed me grace, you showed me kindness. 39:46 You showed me a different kind of world, and one I wanted to be part of. 39:53 I cherished every day I got to spend with you. 39:58 And though there is a lot I am sorry about, there is nothing I regret 40:06 because you will always be my greatest adventure. 40:12 And for the rest of my days, I promise you that I will do my best to live up to your legacy, 40:21 to live the way you lived, with kindness and grace and love. 40:32 And this ring, this ring will never leave my side. 40:38 I will carry it with me always and it will help me as I continue 40:43 to learn, evolve, and grow. There are many things I am sad about, 40:51 but I will no longer live in sadness. And though you and I will never get 40:58 to make the family we deserved, (NADIA SNIFFLES) I just want you to know wherever you are, 41:06 that I finally have people in my life who I can call family. (ALL CRYING) 41:14 Rest well, my beloved Elio. And I promise you, one day we will meet again. 41:23 (MUSIC) (ALL SOBBING) 41:28 (MUSIC) DRAYDEN: You going to be okay? 41:33 NADIA: I am. (ALL SNIFFLING) (DRAYDEN AND NADIA SIGHING) 41:39 NEVE: It was a lovely send off, Nadia. I know I didn't really know him, but his reputation in the city 41:46 was always filled with admiration and respect. He was a good man. 41:51 NADIA: Thank you for that. VARRIC: So, what's next for Nadia and Drayden? 41:57 (NADIA SIGHS) NADIA: We're going to go someplace quiet and far away from all of this. 42:04 My days of adventure are over. I just want to heal. DRAYDEN: We are thinking about building a new estate, 42:11 something to help others displaced by the anomalies. A new kind of family for misfits and orphans, 42:16 just like Nadia and myself. It's time for me to be focused on this world for a change. 42:22 NEVE: Change is good. VARRIC: Smart, too. Best to get out of Tevinter and never come back. 42:28 Those bounties never go away. HARDING: May your retirement be a peaceful one. 42:35 NADIA: I'll miss you, Harding. (HARDING SIGHS) (NADIA AND HARDING EMBRACE) (HARDING CHUCKLES) 42:42 HARDING: Maybe one day when this fight with Solas is done, I'll swing by and see what you two have built. 42:47 NADIA: You are always welcome. Everyone. (HORSE SNORTING) (HOOVES CLOMPING) 42:53 DRAYDEN: Alright, we better get a move on. It's a long road home. (NADIA CLIMBS INTO CARRIAGE) 42:59 (CARRIAGE CREAKS) (NADIA SIGHS) NADIA: I suppose this is goodbye. 43:04 I've said it a hundred times, but from the bottom of my now ice-free heart, 43:12 thank you for everything. VARRIC: Fare thee well. NEVE: Safe travels. HARDING: Take care, Nadia and Drayden. 43:20 DRAYDEN: You ready? (NADIA SIGHS) NADIA: Hit it, Books. DRAYDEN: Yip! 43:26 (HOOVES PLODDING) (HOOVES PLODDING) 43:37 NEVE: I'd love to chat, but I've gotten word the Venatori are up to something and need to investigate. 43:43 I'll catch up with you two later.
