Stroud, Hawke and Loghain are keeping each other company in the Fade with Nightmare, while Alistair is being held prisoner in Weisshaupt because, well, that's a story for another time ... I'm waiting for Laidlaw or Darrah to reply to one of these requests with, "It's not the Dragon Age: Extreme Fanservice Edition!!!!!!!!"

^ Well that is the only one guaranteed to be alive... Aaaand be in one spot in terms of story - it's not like they're rulers of Ferelden or disappeared somewhere or whatever. I think this may actually be way more tricky to write around with than death in Thedas, because in Thedas many things that are dead oftentimes don't stay that way

It is amazing what "Stumpy" (such an offensive term) might be capable of achieving with a bit of imagination, particularly in a world underpinned by magic. Are you saying that we can travel through time and yet a clever dwarf like Dagna or Bianca can't come up with a working prosthetic arm? Actually we know they can at least come up with something because of the epilogue screen for an Inquisitor who joins the Jennies. So, no, the loss of their lower left arm is not a sufficient reason to pension off the character.
Actually I think a plotline that involved getting them back to full fighting capability after the loss of the arm might actually make an original story for the setting. Bioware want to be inclusive so what about giving people who have physical disabilities something they can identify with?

If this was Full Metal Alchemist, the Inquisitor could just get automail. If this was Dungeons and Dragons, they could just get a replacement arm with the Regeneration spell.
But Dragon Age doesn't have inexplicably advanced prosthetics or magic spells to regrow limbs. And I don't think the loss of an arm should be brushed over as a a mild inconvenience. "Oh dear, now I can never wear long-sleeved shirts again!"
You guys are like the Black Knight hopping around on one leg and insisting you're still in the fight. "Come here, Solas! I'll bite your legs off!" 😅

I'd be more pissed at having my character forced into having some corrective procedure without the chance for any sort of input, to be honest. I'm still pissed that I didn't get to emote AT ALL about losing the arm in the first place, not ONE damn line.
I want my Inquisitor in the next game in some capacity, but you know maybe it's MY headcanon that he learns how to fight with one arm. All you people who want magical arms and mechanical arms designed by Dagna speak only for your own selves and your Inquisitor. I'll have to take what Bioware gives me, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.
[edit] That Red Jenny thing is only for players that chose to join them in the dialogue with Sera. I did not.

Yes, I wasn't saying they have to give you a prosthetic arm, just that in theory it should be possible. I've mentioned before, probably on the old BSN, that there is an ancient Irish legend in which the hero loses an arm and then later is supplied with a magical silver arm that behaves just like his flesh and blood one. In a world of magic it is possible to explain how to achieve this. As I say, we've had time travel, magical ball fusing to our hand and enabling us to do all sorts of weird stuff, Corypheus levitating an entire mountain and in the comics some strange contrivance called the Magellan that was meant to be able to alter people's minds on a Thedas-wide scale, so the small matter of a replacement arm should be child's play.
However, I would equally be happy with just being asked to retrain to fight one handed. The only person who would be severely inconvenienced is the specialist archer. The two handed fighter should be able to transfer most of their skills to fighting one handed, ditto the dual wielder. Sword and shield warrior just does without the shield. As for a mage, they should be able to twirl their staff one handed and it doesn't at all affect their natural ability to do spells.
So it would be possible for the Inquisitor to continue to be effective even without the use of magic to make good their loss. I just do not accept the loss of their arm as a valid excuse for reducing them to a non-combatant role.

Having a prosthetic limb would definitely explain why the Inquisitor would be down at Level 1 again, since they have to learn from scratch how to fight with it. Also, they can easily have a prosthetic that allows combat in Dragon Age since in that period on Earth we had prosthetics that allowed that, for example Gottfried "Götz" von Berlichingen aka Götz of the Iron Hand. And we didn't have magic or engineering masterminds like Dwarves and Qunari. If they do I would like it to be more than a simple mechanic, but I think Bioware would give a bit of focus on the physical and emotional struggles that go with it.

"Oh dear, now I can never wear long-sleeved shirts again!" You guys are like the Black Knight hopping around on one leg and insisting you're still in the fight. "Come here, Solas! I'll bite your legs off!" Technically you can do a lot less in Mad Max world yet Furiosa was doing great. And DA may not be FMA, but it has enough of magic, enchants and crazy dwarven inventors to cook something up. And as Iron Bull's example shows, DA authors thought so as well - and Bull likely didn't use magic at all, being a Qunari. He may have not ended in the game like that, but survived long enough to get himself a model that is pretty identical with what we know, sans the hand. If some poor knight or mercenary in world of DA lost a hand, they'd likely be done, but it's Inquisitor we're talking about - a person who, even if Inquisition is disbanded, has enough of connections to top enchanters and inventors to do something about their disability.

I don't think a crossbow attachment is comparable to automail. And I imagine that thing's a bitch to load. Yet they were conceptarting Iron Bull having a cannon arm And considering that Inquisitor can carry a magical sword possessed by willing spirit that manifests itself as a sharp blade whenever its users wants it to and the world literally sees walking armors (golems) and other kinds of useful enchants of defensive or offensive uses on demand, I can imagine other applications of such technologies that could... come in handy for Inquisitor.

I chose the gif with Edward from FMA, not because I think we get automail, but because I'm just annoyed of all those comments that always somehow go into the direction of the Inquisitor being useless, just because they lost their arm. (also his facial expression and the flailing are just great ) I extra included a gif of Shanks who, like the Inquisitor lost his left arm and in the 12 years in which he's now one-armed never got a prostetic arm.

Whenever I read stuff along the lines of "The Inquisitor lost their arm! They can't fight anymore!!!" I just want to respond with stuff like I have to say seeing FMA, if they do bring the Inquisitor back with a prosthetic it will be really fitting considering I based my Elf Rogue on Lan Fan, who also loses her left arm and comes back with a prosthetic, even though at the time I had no idea of the Inquisitor's fate.

Nice I based my Human Warrior on Greed. He lost both his arms multiple times. Also he has his Oroboros tattoo is on the same hand as the Inquisitor the Mark.
