^ Not all VA are even in SAG-AFTRA. I'm thinking the number is like, 30%-ish (I have that in my head, for some reason).
Let's say, for example, that both Gareth David-Lloyd (Solas) and Ramon Tikaram (Dorian) are both in SAG-AFTRA and that they support the strike (so won't do VA work). Those are two major voices that the game won't want to do without. But if there are some miscellaneous NPCs and whatnot, they can certainly get a lot of voice work taken care of with non-union actors. This doesn't necessarily mean that they have to go out of their way to hire them. It could be that their first choice for a role isn't even in the union anyway.

I am one of those who will be dropping out of, well, pretty much everything after the game is announced. I wasn't a frequent poster on the BSN during DAO times or the lead up to DA2, but became one after, so I didn't go into either DAO or DA2 with any preconceptions. I did drop out after the DAI romance options were announced, but wish I had gone even earlier.

I've a theory now that (leaving aside Merrill) ancient elves speak with a Welsh accent, or at least the agents of Solas do (whether or not they are ancient ones). Did you not notice that the Inquisition elf (agent of Solas) who stopped that servant planting the gaatlok spoke with a heavy Welsh accent? It is rather noticeable since most Dalish speak with an Irish accent (since DA2), whilst of course city elves vary according to where they were brought up. So that elf really stuck out for me even before we caught up with Solas and he said that they were one of his.
I seem to recall that they were originally going to make the Dalish have Welsh accents but they couldn't find enough miscellaneous voice actors who could do the accent, or something like that. However, they had already signed up Eve Myles to do Merrill, so explained her different accent from the rest of the clan by having originated with a different one.
Ramon Tikaram isn't American, so he is probably not in SAG-AFTRA either.

Prior to playing DAI, all I did was look up who was romaceable and what sexuality they had to make my decision about race/gender/class. Then I go meet Dorian's father with him and Dorian acts like his being gay is like...News and that I would never have known or guessed and I'm supposed to be shocked or surprised... And maybe I would have been if I hadn't spoiled his sexuality prior to playing. It'd never occurred to me that knowing was a spoiler. Was the romance announcement made with their preferred sexuality as well? I wouldn't mind knowing the former (who is generally available) but definitely think I'll skip knowing the latter. |

Geez people, I was using them as examples of voice actors that are likely indispensable for the mythical DA4.
Let's go with Steve Blum, who played Oghren, Irving, and others, who IS American and likely in SAG-AFTRA. If they wanted him back to do some gravely-voiced dwarves in DA4, they would have to wait for the strike to be over.
