It happens a few times in Asunder too. Evangeline disrupts a mage trying to kill the Divine (she also had her sword in his chest but used her powers to disrupt the flames he was conjuring) and did it again to Adrian who conjured an aura of flames.

Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw I don't recall that we've ever detailed it. At first I was confused by this, until I realized my understanding of the interaction is forum based speculation I've accepted.----Then I was bemused by this. But now, I'm just kinda sad. While writing fanficiton of Dragon Age, I've run into the problem constantly that there is no explaination. There is no lore ro reference. There are 13 Dalish clans mentioned, 3 of them can be killed, and only four of them have a name. The languages of the cultures and species are vastly lacking because the writers haven't been bothered to sit down and write one. Did you know that of all the rivers criss crossing Fereldan and Orlais, only two of them have a name? Yet they have all these maps, but no one took the time give them stupid names like "Salty Beaver". I think I passed a sign on the highway the other day that names it's small river "big long river" or something absurdly simple like that. I love Dragon Age so much, but finding out this stuff just makes Thedas seem like a background to our romantic/friendship dramas and not as real a world as I would like by a long shot. |

I know this is going to come across as trite, but it's not meant that way. I want to encouragingly say this - fill in the blanks. It's your fanfiction, go for it. Fill the world so that it no longer feels like an empty backdrop. Even worlds as deep as Middle Earth, where Tolkien wrote the Silmarillion to infuse it with depth and history, is lacking in detail. That's by necessity. A story has to flow, so it can't get bogged down in overwhelming detail. Plus, it's always wise to leave a certain amount of story to the readers imagination. Like the Star Wars prequels. What I imagined (for Luke's history and the history of the Jedi and the Clone Wars) when I first saw the original Star Wars was soooo much better than what George Lucas came up with. Anyway, I'm rambling, need sleep and coffee. Just hoped to encourage and embolden you a little. Have fun with the writing. No, seriously. Make sure it's fun. Maybe for you that will be filling in those river names.  |
