Not that I am a big fan of the story but I am still playing, have just finished up on the third world. Lets be honest the original ME series main story had MAJOR plot holes, not the least was the entire Reaper Cycle which has more holes than Swiss cheese. No need to rehash that.
My main problem is with the characters, I just don't seem to be connecting with any of them and that includes myself, Ryder.
Some of the little things bother me as well. So I am flying down to an unknown planet as an elite scout group, there I STAND in the shuttle bay looking out a window as we enter atmosphere. Come on EVERYONE would be strapped in. Then arriving on said mystery planet all I have been issued is one crummy pistol???
Then there is SAM. Coming from the ME world with synthetics viewed as the DEVIL by most everyone, I and everyone else seem so nonchalant about the fact that not only do we have an AI but that it is part of me.
Next we have a major scout vessel, the Tempest, with absolutely NO weapons. The other vehicle you spend so much time in is the Nomad, once again NO weapons????? Some darn over sized bug can destroy it and the best I can do is run it over??????
Don't even get me started on the tech glitches, Kett hanging in the sky, all kinds of audio problems and the AWFUL animations. I could go on and on about the little things and those are what take me out of the game experience and really bug me.
Yep combat is much better and game play for the most part is ok. Yes I will finish the game but as a HUGE ME trilogy fan I am very disappointed.

I didn't bail, actually finished the game 99%. But I could easily see why someone would bail. The Angara introduction is horrendous and it happens at the critical make-it-or-break-it moment when it comes to player investement, around 20 hours in.
Doesn't matter if it's explained later that Angara met Milky Way species already months before thanks to Sloan and the Exiles. At the moment of first meeting the Angara while actually playing the game, neither the players or the Player Character (Ryder) knows it and the fact that the story/Ryder doesn't make a point of it how the hell are Angara just suddenly speaking MW language is ridiculous, like some amateur script-writing mistake.
Too bad because Angara become much more interesting later on, but the first impression stinks for a long time.

I love the story, the execution in some areas are definitely weak though

And they don't speak english, it's the translator ...which isn't explained to people who don't read the Codex or newcomers and it takes away from the ominous nature of the Kett. This is a horrid introduction to the Archon. We don't know who he is, he just randomly shows up and Ryder acts all casual about it, then we flee... like, how can you defend this? (I know you're one of those rabid fanboys who love everything BioWare does) |

Jesus christ I love when people complain about something without using brains first Then exaplain at which point in the story before meeting the Angara, Ryder learns about them and the fact that they already translated Milky Way languages to warrant lack of surprise when actually first meeting them? This is not a problem that Angara use translators, it's the fact that Ryder doesn't question nor investigate it. |

But theres no connection like you say. And I'm left wondering if BioWare are even taking themselves seriously anymore its like they have no idea Mass Effect is supposed to be, that this is supposed to be their A game and that their reputation hangs off the franchise like shirts on shoulders. I'm half hoping EA steps in and delivers the arse kicking needed to whoever was in charge of this mess. Starting a NG+ is about wanting to beat the game on insanity right now. I played the OT for 8 years. Heres hoping ME5 can deliver something to compete with that. |

Well, if it were a MMO, it would be customary to say "can I have your stuff?" But since it's not, farewell, and find something else you enjoy doing. Seriously. Link"Guess"ski , I typically enjoy your posts quite a bit. They're always reasoned, and you thoroughly explain your views. Still, you've been creating a lot of what amount to "Does Anyone Else Hate X Part of the Game?" threads. I sort of wish we could get them merged, or condensed, into a cleaner "Link's Thoughts" thread. I'm usually the last person to say anything like this, but the forum is swimming in "Dislike" threads. Many of them could be merged, since they're saying the same things. Even more original, specific lines of thought like this one could likely fit within an existing discussion. I'm not trying to play forum police. It's just something that's been on my mind for a few days, and I figured this is a thread in which maturity levels are likely high enough to share. As to the specific complaint, the transition was abrupt, and could've been much better. It didn't really ruin my enjoyment of the game, though. You're more on top of things like this. It's very much part of how you think, based upon your analytical posts concerning game design, writing, etc... While I'm playing, I'm mostly just "in the game". I don't analyze in metagame ways too much, unless something is terribad. |
